Chapter 537 - 300: Abyss of the Sea
Chapter 537: Chapter 300: Abyss of the Sea
Lu Cang and Kumironi floated in the dark space. Just a few minutes earlier, they had been in the dark, deep, viscous waters of the sea.
But the place they were in now was frighteningly vast and empty.
Before them was a giant sphere.
Just by reaching out with his Perception, he could tell it was indeed a planet.
It wasn’t a vibrant planet like Earth, however. It was a barren, lifeless world with nothing but dry soil.
’Just what is this place?’ Lu Cang asked An Su in his mind.
An Su replied in a nonchalant tone, "What else could it be?"
"This is the Abyss of the Sea, the bottom of the Ocean, one of the three great Abysses."
’The three great Abysses?’
Lu Cang had heard of the Abyss before. It was said to be bottomless, home to countless Demons.
"That’s right. This is the Abyss of the Sea, and you’re currently on its first layer."
Lu Cang recalled something.
Back when he was exploring the Secret Sea, he seemed to recall getting a hint from his Hidden Origin Talent.
The hint at the time, however, was that he had entered the "Ocean Nest—the second layer of the Abyss of the Sea."
That was where he had encountered the creature whose Date of Death was the year 19,999.
’What dangers are there here? And why are there no Demons?’
As he asked, Lu Cang peered into the threads of Future Destiny and drew his Destiny Cards, trying to divine what lay ahead.
He was getting closer and closer to Earth.
At full speed, he estimated he could reach Earth in less than an hour.
And the closer he got, the more cautious he became.
The result of his Divination was still three death cards.
Even when he drew again, the result was the same: three cards of the White of Death and Destruction.
An Su repeated, "Why are there no Demons?"
"Heh heh, an excellent question..."
As An Su chuckled, Lu Cang had already divined a very ominous answer from his thoughts.
"Because weak Demons are not worthy of appearing in the territory of a powerful one."
"If there isn’t a single Demon to be found, it most likely means there is at least a Tier Eight Demon here."
Hearing An Su’s answer... Lu Cang’s mouth twitched slightly.
"But don’t worry... Even a Tier Eight Demon can’t destroy the Divine Authority you harbor."
"If you were to be killed, you most likely still wouldn’t actually die."
"However, if you *do* die in such a way, you’ll only be able to watch helplessly as the entire Secret Sea is annihilated. These Sea Demons will soon rampage across the major oceans, and in the near future, you’ll see them even in the Moon Sea..."
"You’ll have to face it sooner or later."
*Tsk...*
Lu Cang maintained a calm state of mind and responded, ’I just want information about the Abyss of the Sea. Don’t bother me with all that other stuff.’
Seeing Lu Cang’s response, An Su didn’t press the matter. "Oh~ About the Abyss of the Sea, you say..."
Lu Cang and Kumironi landed on the barren planet before them.
"Lu Cang... this place."
Lu Cang replied, "This is the Abyss of the Sea."
As he spoke, Lu Cang began to set up a Ritual on the planet.
"Lu Cang... what are you doing?"
"Setting up a Ritual again," Lu Cang replied simply.
"To make sure I can use it anytime, it’s best to leave preparations behind with every step I take."
*Eh...*
’He’s going to set up a Pure White Descent Ritual at every stop?’
In less than two minutes, Lu Cang had finished setting up the Ritual.
Throughout the process, Lu Cang’s combat state remained active; his enemy had not disappeared.
Lu Cang had also figured out the conditions for activating the combat state of his [Divine Level·Peak Realm of Perfection] Talent.
Fighting himself wouldn’t work, not even against one of his Undead.
To trigger this Talent, he had to be fighting another independent individual not under his Control.
However... it would trigger instantly as long as anyone felt the desire to fight him or displayed any hostility.
Conversely, it would also trigger if he himself desired to fight something and made any kind of probing move against it.
The conditions were extremely lenient.
He could even use this Talent to detect the presence of enemies.
If the Talent activated for no apparent reason, it meant an enemy was nearby and preparing for a fight.
The Ritual was inscribed.
During this time, An Su had shared quite a bit of information about the Abyss of the Sea.
The Abyss of the Sea contained many forgotten or abandoned things. Occasionally, explorers would venture into it to search for treasure.
However, no one had ever heard of any living person managing to reside in the Abyss of the Sea for long.
The place simply wasn’t habitable.
After setting up the Ritual, Lu Cang and Kumironi continued to speed through the Abyss of the Sea.
Suddenly, Kumironi spoke up. "Lu Cang, are you sure this is the right direction?"
The two of them stopped.
"The calling I feel is over there," Kumironi said, pointing in another direction. It was a slight deviation from the path Lu Cang was taking toward Earth.
Lu Cang nodded. "It seems we’re not feeling a call from the same source."
"Kumironi, I’d like to go with you, but I’m sorry..."
"This is really important to me."
Kumironi tilted her head. "What are you talking about? I just said my calling was in that direction. I never said I was going over there."
"I’m actually worried it might be some kind of trap."
"So, I’d rather stick with you."
Hearing her reply, Lu Cang gave a helpless, wry smile.
’I feel like I’m the irrational one now.’
"Alright. Together."
Lu Cang said, "There’s another planet over there. I’ll go set up a Ritual on that one, too."
It was another barren planet.
He was only ten minutes away from Earth, but there was still no sign of the Solar System.
Earth might be small, but the Solar System should be huge.
At his speed, if he were truly approaching Earth, he should be speeding through the Solar System right now. Yet everything he saw was still the empty, dark Abyss of the Sea.
An extremely ominous premonition grew in Lu Cang’s heart.
’My Talent, Hidden Origin, is pointing to my father and mother’s location. It’s clearly right in front of me; the direction can’t be wrong.’
’But... where’s the sun?’
’Where are Venus, Jupiter, Neptune, and Pluto?’
’Where’s the universe?’
’Don’t tell me this all-encompassing darkness is the universe I learned about in my past life?’
He finished setting up another Pure White Descent Ritual.
Along the way, Lu Cang had already come across dozens of different planets, setting up a Pure White Descent Ritual on each one.
Once the Ritual was complete, the two set off again.
"Lu Cang, how much farther to your destination?" Kumironi’s voice was tinged with worry.
She could clearly sense that the current Lu Cang was completely different from his usual self.
Something was wrong with his state of mind.
"About... two minutes away, I think."
Lu Cang’s voice grew apprehensive, almost hollow.
It was laced with uncertainty and a hint of self-doubt.
Kumironi could even sense a faint panic in his voice.
Two more minutes... and he would see Earth, the place he had longed to return to ever since he’d been brought to this world.
But was this dark, empty place really home?
