Alien Species Invasion? I Kill Them Back.

Chapter 273: Please Take Care of Us

Gray Rat’s purpose for attending the interview was to figure out the difference between Hunters and Inspectors, see if there were any noteworthy individuals among them, and find a way to extract their personal information to sell to other players for points.

It was like selling a game guide. After all, in an environment where Pollution Bodies were scarce, killing Hunters was one of the ways to obtain points.

He never expected to run into a hidden boss during his operation.

At that point, Gray Rat’s focus immediately shifted to Feng Ling. He was desperate to probe the hidden boss and find out what Skills they had.

The result needs no elaboration. In short, he was dismembered on the spot and made a gruesome log-off.

After logging in a second time, Gray Rat changed his identity and started over from scratch.

Now, seeing this Hunter named Fang Ye, those terrible memories assaulted his mind again. Recalling the manner of his death, he could not feel any joy.

Xing Guang came downstairs, sat down in front of the Hunters, and introduced himself, “My name is Cheng Shian. I just recently moved to Jinnan City. Has Hunting Star International told you about my situation?”

Gray Rat walked over to the bar behind the sofa, sat down, poured himself a glass of wine, and coldly watched Xing Guang interact with the two Hunters.

His gaze lingered mostly on Fang Ye.

The training he’d done recently must have paid off. Fang Ye looked much cleaner and sharper than Gray Rat’s first impression of him. His hair was shorter, and his body was more solid.

Fang Ye said, “They did. The liaison said that public security in Jinnan City is poor and the local branch of the Inspection Bureau is understaffed, so you wanted to hire two Hunters to ensure your daily safety. From now on, we will take over the security for this residence. I’m Fang Ye, and this is He Su. It’s a pleasure to work with you.”

The young Hunter named He Su followed up with an “It’s a pleasure to work with you,” seeming a bit reserved.

Xing Guang smiled and said, “I’ve been reading online about how powerful Hunters are, and now I finally get to see them in person. The person who referred you said that the Cards you two hold are Fishman and Mongoose. Could you each demonstrate the ability of your Card?”

He Su immediately frowned, his face showing his reluctance.

Fang Ye, however, stood up readily. “Of course we can. And we don’t need to demonstrate them separately. Little He’s ability happens to require my cooperation. Mr. Cheng, please watch—”

He raised his arm, and it transformed into a sharp, pointed fin, similar in length to a Knight’s lance.

It was so long that he had to move around the sofa and take a few steps back.

“Mr. Cheng, I’m going to attack Little He now. You can observe his reaction,” Fang Ye said to Xing Guang, while also giving He Su a heads-up.

He Su nodded with a frown.

Fang Ye suddenly raised the fin and thrust it forward!

He Su didn’t move from his seat on the sofa. His upper body twisted slightly with incredible speed, nimbly dodging the fin!

Fang Ye thrust again, and He Su dodged it just as easily, so fast it was as if he had known it was coming.

Fang Ye retracted his fin, adjusted his torn cuff, and said to Xing Guang, “Little He’s reaction speed is extremely fast, and he’s more agile than a normal person. If an unexpected situation arises, he’ll sense it in advance. As for my ability, it’s just as you saw. My arms can transform into fins, and I have an even greater advantage in the water.”

Xing Guang looked satisfied, then asked, “I’m a little curious. How did you obtain such miraculous Cards?”

He chuckled after asking and added in a casual tone, “If it’s not something you can talk about, that’s fine. I’m just curious. I hope you don’t mind me asking.”

This time, it was He Su who spoke first.

“Have you heard of the Qianhui Mall incident? A few Alien Species found a Pollution Body somewhere and fought it all the way into Qianhui Mall. In the end, the Pollution Body wasn’t killed, but plenty of the mall staff and passersby died instead.” He Su said with a frown, “I was supposed to meet a friend to eat at the mall that day. An Alien Species happened to die right in front of me, and I picked up its Card.”

“That sounds dangerous,” Xing Guang asked considerately. “Did the Inspection Bureau step in to resolve the problem later?”

He Su replied listlessly, “The Pollution Body was dealt with, but the Alien Species that survived got away. The Deputy Captain of the Inspection Bureau also sacrificed his life in the pursuit.”

The corners of Xing Guang’s mouth lifted almost imperceptibly. “…Is that so? What a terrible shame.”

Xing Guang looked at Fang Ye and asked gently, “Did you also get your Card by running into danger?”

“Oh…” Fang Ye lowered his eyes and gave an awkward laugh. “I didn’t run into any danger. I just… happened to find the body of a Fishman on the road and took its Card.”

Gray Rat, who was listening to their conversation from the side, scoffed aloud. “Are Fishmen idiots? Why would one be on land with a big fish tail?”

“Ahui,” Xing Guang said, glancing at Gray Rat with a hint of reproach.

He turned to Fang Ye and He Su and introduced him apologetically, “This is my cousin, Geng Minghui. He’s interested in Alien Species and Cards, just like me, so he knows a bit more about them.”

Fang Ye awkwardly corrected himself, “I happened to find a corpse, and I took the Card from it. The Card was a Fishman.”

“How did the Fishman die?” Gray Rat asked again.

“Ahui,” Xing Guang stopped him again.

Gray Rat said irritably, “What’s wrong with asking how it died? It’s already strange for a Fishman to die on land.”

“Fang Ye is a Hunter, not a Detective. How could he possibly know the cause of death? Don’t make things difficult for him,” Xing Guang said, then looked at Fang Ye and He Su. “Since this is your first day, you can take a look around the area and familiarize yourselves with the surroundings.”

“Okay,” Fang Ye and He Su replied, getting up.

Both of them felt a little uncomfortable, but he was their employer, after all. Moreover, it was their first mission, and they didn’t want to mess things up.

However, once they were outside, He Su couldn’t hold it in any longer.

“We’re not circus clowns, to be ordered to show off our abilities! And Mr. Cheng’s cousin! Did you see the look he gave us? It was so disrespectful!”

The more He Su spoke, the angrier he became, and he found it harder and harder to keep his voice down.

“He thinks he’s better than everyone just because he’s rich! He doesn’t even stop to think that we’re Card-wielding Hunters, way more valuable than rich people like them! There are only a few hundred Hunters in the entire country. Does he think we’re just some cheap security guards?!”

Fang Ye’s brow furrowed slightly. He found himself agreeing with He Su, yet the words still grated on him.

Because he had been a security guard.

And he truly did believe that Hunters should be a cut above the rest.

Complex emotions filled his heart, making Fang Ye’s expression turn somber.

“Fang Ye, what do you think?” He Su said, annoyed. “I can’t believe we ran into a real piece of work for an employer on our very first mission. What rotten luck!”

Fang Ye glanced at him and tried to placate him, “Try to look on the bright side. The mission will be over in two weeks. Not only will we get paid, but we’ll also gain experience. Once we’ve built up our reputation, we’ll be able to pick and choose our jobs.”

“I’m not talking about the money,” He Su said, frustrated. “I’m just pissed off. I used to spend every day working and waiting on bosses. Why is it that now that I’m a Hunter, I still have to wait on these kinds of bosses!”
