Chapter 225: Chapter 224: Jinx

’What’s so strange about mice?’ Feng Ling thought. ’Didn’t you kill plenty of them yesterday?’

But she quickly understood why Huangfu Miaomiao was screaming so wretchedly.

Because Mouse Monsters were pouring out of the broken glass window! In just a few short seconds, more than a dozen humanoid mice of various sizes had already surged out!

The Mouse Monsters scrambled madly toward the roof, but their climbing skills were poor, and they started falling from the outer wall like dumplings being dropped into a pot. A few of the "dumplings" even burst open on impact, spilling their guts!

The dead Mouse Monsters formed a fresh, fleshy cushion, buffering the fall for the others. The truck was parked right below, and like a horde of zombies that had caught the scent of humans, they switched targets and charged it!

BANG! BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG!!!

The truck was battered by continuous impacts. Smaller Mouse Monsters frantically clawed at the undercarriage, while the larger ones tried to leap up and bite the people on top of the cargo bed!

On the roof, Ye Zheng was also surrounded by Mouse Monsters, and more kept pouring out of the doors and windows in a seemingly endless flood.

"Did we just kick a hornet’s nest?!" Feng Ling exclaimed in shock. Her Bone Blade reaped a swift harvest as she intercepted the monsters swarming onto the truck, buying Li Qing time to get into the cargo container.

There were too many of them. Xu Yiming was in a flurry. He had just managed to kill a Mouse Monster that had climbed up when he noticed another one had chewed through one of the truck’s tires!

Xu Yiming’s heart ached beyond words. ’I can bleed, but not the truck!’

"They chewed through a front tire!" he yelled to Feng Ling.

Feng Ling could feel the tire deflating as the truck began to slowly tilt to one side.

This was bad. If it tilted too much, another impact from the Mouse Monsters would surely tip the truck over. Hiding inside the container, they would be trapped and helpless.

CREAK— CREAK—

The truck tilted even more precariously.

Feng Ling heard metal crates slamming against the container walls from inside.

’Those crates are full of weapons and ammo,’ she thought. ’Will the impacts set something off?’

Feng Ling glanced at the rooftop, her heart sinking. She made a decision.

Her blood-stained Bone Blade swung in a half-circle, taking the heads off several Mouse Monsters. Feng Ling grabbed Li Qing, leaped off the truck, and yelled, "Into the building!"

Feng Ling had one distinct advantage in a fight: the more dangerous the situation, the calmer she became. She was remarkably decisive, relying on instinct to make snap judgments and never missing an opportunity due to hesitation.

But instinct wasn’t always right.

Feng Ling led Xu Yiming and Li Qing into a nearby building and realized she’d made a huge mistake.

She had assumed the building was empty because there was no reaction from it despite the massive commotion outside. She didn’t expect to run into a huge nest of mice the moment she reached the second floor!

In the corridor, which was less than two meters wide, humanoid mice were curled up together, sleeping along the walls. Startled awake by their sudden intrusion, the mice immediately swarmed toward them like boiling water overflowing a pot.

Just then, the Mouse Monsters from downstairs caught up, trapping them in a pincer attack!

Quick-witted, Feng Ling yanked open the bathroom door behind them, grabbed Li Qing, and shoved him inside. With a SLAM, she shut the door!

She and Xu Yiming stood guard at the door. All twelve of her limbs unfolded behind her—hacking, tearing, and piercing—slaughtering every Mouse Monster that lunged at them.

Xu Yiming’s face was covered in a cold sweat. He had never been in a fight this intense.

Countless humanoid mice lunged at him. At first, he tried to remember his combat training, but the sheer numbers quickly overwhelmed him. Kill one, and another took its place. He didn’t have a moment to catch his breath; soon, he was just swinging his weapon on pure instinct.

The sticky blood gradually dulled his blade, and his palm grew slick against the hilt.

Before long, the second-floor landing and hallway were piled high with corpses, and blood flowed in rivulets.

Fortunately, the pile of bodies seemed to calm the frenzied Mouse Monsters. Just as they had the previous night, they began carrying away their dead, dismembering the corpses and hauling them off piece by piece in a busy, industrious manner.

Apparently, in the Mouse Monsters’ strange logic, clearing away the dead took priority over dealing with intruders.

Seizing the opportunity as the number of nearby mice dwindled, Feng Ling opened the bathroom door, pulled Li Qing out, and ran upstairs, dragging him by the arm. Xu Yiming followed close behind.

All the Mouse Monsters from the upper floors had rushed down during the fight, so the levels above were now completely clear.

Feng Ling ran up to the third floor, then the fourth. Above that was the roof.

She stopped, scanned her surroundings, and then heaved a mahjong table, tossing it down to block the narrow staircase.

Seeing this, Li Qing and Xu Yiming immediately started grabbing chairs and cabinets, helping Feng Ling completely barricade the stairwell.

But just as they sealed the barricade, a Mouse Monster climbed in through a window in one of the fourth-floor rooms!

Xu Yiming, being closest, lunged and slammed the door shut!

BANG!

A humanoid hand with sharp claws was caught viciously in the door!

The mice inside the room shrieked madly, trying to squeeze through the gap.

Without hesitation, Feng Ling sliced off the trapped hand. Blood splattered across Xu Yiming’s face as he finally managed to shut the door completely, his back soaked with cold sweat.

The Mouse Monsters on the other side continued to ram the door relentlessly. BANG! BANG! BANG!

Xu Yiming’s scalp prickled. "Are these things ever going to end?!"

"Let’s go. We’ll meet up with them on the roof," Feng Ling said, already running up the last flight of stairs.

The rooftop was a square, empty space, except for a single, worn-out bamboo broom.

When Feng Ling, Xu Yiming, and Li Qing reached the roof, they immediately shut the door behind them to prevent any ambushes. Then, they scanned the area, searching for Ye Zheng and Huangfu Miaomiao.

Ye Zheng’s position was easy to spot. Her Cat Spider and Cat Owl were fighting alongside her, so Feng Ling immediately saw her on the roof of the adjacent building.

However, that building was taller, so Feng Ling couldn’t get a clear view of the battle. She could only see the Cat Owl occasionally flapping into the air, its feathers disheveled. It was clearly struggling.

Neither the Cat Spider nor the Cat Owl were good at fighting hordes.

Internally, Feng Ling was torn between chiding her "children" for their incompetence and feeling a pang of sympathy for them. She raised her voice and shouted, "Zhengzheng! Over here!"

She wanted Ye Zheng to lead the Mouse Monsters over to her.

Ye Zheng didn’t react.

The Cat Owl let out a piercing shriek, grabbed the surrounded Cat Spider, and tried to fly into the sky.

But the Cat Spider was nearly twice the Cat Owl’s size; it couldn’t be lifted. On top of that, Mouse Monsters were clambering all over them. The Cat Owl was nearly bitten several times and lost a flurry of feathers. It circled anxiously above the roof, its cries growing more urgent and shrill.

’I have to get over there.’ Seeing how bad the situation was, Feng Ling backed up for a running start. She charged to the edge, leaped, and shot out two of her Teeth and Claws. They latched onto a window ledge on the opposite building, and she used them as leverage to climb.

Several mice leaned out of the window, trying to gnaw on Feng Ling’s limbs. The moment their sharp fangs touched her Teeth and Claws, her hard Silver Scales shot out, filling the monsters’ mouths with blood!

"You’re asking for it!" Feng Ling vaulted through the window. Her cone spikes shot out, skewering the mice. Without pausing, she raced for the roof.

Just as she reached the rooftop, a black Ghost Shadow emerged from a broken flowerpot, revealing Huangfu Miaomiao’s tear-stricken face. "Feng Ling, wahhh..."

"No crying! Get to the truck and grab the sedative! Now!" Feng Ling snapped, drawing her Bone Blade as she charged toward Ye Zheng, who was still locked in combat with the Mouse Monsters.
