Chapter 210: Chapter 209: Insect King

Feng Ling insisted on going in. She said to Han Xu, "Don’t worry, I won’t do anything reckless. If any bugs get inside me, I’ll just chop that part off."

She raised a hand, palm up. A layer of silvery-white Scale Armor rapidly sprouted, densely covering her skin.

Han Xu thought, ’She’s talking about chopping off her own hands and feet, and she calls that *not* reckless?’

However, seeing she could control her scales to protect herself put him a little more at ease. He figured that for Feng Ling to be held in such high regard by their superiors, she must have some extraordinary qualities. He nodded in agreement.

The subway here was still under construction. The internal lines hadn’t been laid, and there were no tracks, making it essentially a vast, empty underground tunnel.

Because construction had just begun, it wasn’t connected to any other subway lines in the city. As long as they blocked the station entrances, the Alien Species wouldn’t be able to escape.

Feng Ling asked Han Xu, "How long is it inside?"

Han Xu replied, "The total length is 3 kilometers. This station is called Shadi Bay, and the next is Nanhai Temple. Each station has A and B exits, so all four entrances have been cordoned off. If any living creature comes out, the Special Attack Team will hit it with maximum firepower."

Han Xu paused for a few seconds before adding, "The safest method would be to wait for the floodwater to recede before going down."

Feng Ling sighed. "Delays breed trouble. We can’t give the Alien Species a chance to recover."

In truth, she just didn’t want to listen to Ye Zheng’s nagging anymore.

She had already killed over forty of them; what was one more? Although the enemy’s Card was a bit tricky, Feng Ling felt that as long as she didn’t get infested, there was nothing it could do to her.

She kicked off her shoes, let scales cover her feet just like her arms, and then entered the subway station with Huangfu Miaomiao.

A long staircase stretched downward. Every few meters, two team members wearing headlamps stood guard on either side, so it wasn’t too dark.

But once they reached the end of the stairs, the way down was plunged into a pitch-black darkness where you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face.

There were no guards and no lighting.

Feng Ling took out a flashlight and shone it down, revealing another flight of stairs about ten meters long.

Unlike the previous staircase, this section was wet and extremely dirty. If one had to describe it, it looked as if a large, muddy broom had been swept across it, leaving behind a crisscrossing pattern of streaks.

Feng Ling took two steps down. The stairs were slick.

’Slipping and falling in a place like this would be a real thrill.’

After slowly descending about ten more steps, she saw the standing water.

The water was murky, appearing a dirty brown in the flashlight beam. Just as she approached, numerous slender black worms shot up from the bottom, swimming toward her.

Worms appeared near Huangfu Miaomiao as well, frightening her so much that she scrambled back up the stairs. After a few steps, the worms seemed to lose track of her and sank back into the water.

"So gross!" Huangfu Miaomiao stood on the stairs, still shaken, and patted her chest.

Feng Ling dipped a finger into the water. A worm immediately coiled around it. Like a long, thin black earthworm, it squirmed up her arm, its head probing back and forth, searching for an opening.

Her Scale Armor, however, was seamless, without any gaps.

Feng Ling pinched the worm between her fingers and, with a gentle tug, snapped it in two.

It was as easy as breaking a cooked green bean.

She thought for a moment, then called up to Huangfu Miaomiao, "Can you see the Gu Insect Master?"

Huangfu Miaomiao shook her head. "I can’t see it."

"Won’t it suffocate if it stays in the water too long?" Feng Ling found it strange. She snapped a few more worms that approached her, then took out her phone to call Li Qing.

"Look up the Gu Insect Master Card," Feng Ling said, staring at the murky water. "There are some black, thread-like worms in the water. Can’t they drown?"

"They won’t drown in the short term," Li Qing replied over the phone. "The Gu Insect Master’s insects lose their activity and slowly die if they can’t find a host within a few minutes of disconnecting from the master."

"What about the Gu Insect Master itself? Does it have any special water-related Skills? The water down here is deep, and I can’t see where it’s hiding." Feng Ling waded into the water, looking around.

The water on the platform wasn’t deep, just covering her feet. But in the track area below where the subway would run, the water was over a meter deep. If the Alien Species was hiding there, it would be difficult for Feng Ling to find it.

’As expected, this is a job for grenades. A few explosions will surely flush it out.’

She waved to Huangfu Miaomiao. "Go to the car and get some grenades."

"I still have two in my bag," Huangfu Miaomiao said, taking them out and handing them over.

As Feng Ling took them, she said, "Two won’t be enough. Go get more."

Huangfu Miaomiao nodded and ran back out.

Just then, Li Qing’s voice came from the phone: "Aside from using insects to control others, the most dangerous thing about the Gu Insect Master Card is that it can hatch an Insect King."

Feng Ling asked, "Is the Insect King tough?"

"The Insect King’s specific abilities depend on what other Cards the Gu Insect Master has absorbed," Li Qing said.

’So, that was completely useless information.’

Holding the phone in one hand and a grenade in the other, Feng Ling bit the pin’s ring, yanked it out, and deftly threw the grenade.

BOOM!!!

The explosion, a sound sweet to her ears, sent a pillar of water into the air. The murky water grew even murkier, and many black, thread-like fragments floated to the surface.

"Nothing on the left." Feng Ling picked up the second grenade and repeated the process, biting the pin’s ring. "Let’s try the right—"

Another massive explosion!

The sound was so loud that Li Qing couldn’t help but frown and pull the phone away from his ear.

A SPLASH came through the phone, like something had fallen into the water.

Li Qing froze for a second, then clutched the phone and asked, "Feng Ling? Feng Ling, what happened over there?"

There was no response, only a suspicious splashing sound.

The color drained from Li Qing’s face.

Beside him, Ye Zheng also realized something had gone wrong down there and immediately tried to get out of the truck.

Xu Yiming, who was guarding the truck door, was startled by the Pollution Body’s actions. He wanted to stop her but was afraid of provoking her. He hesitated, blocking the door. "Where are you going...?"

"Get out of my way!" Ye Zheng roared.

Her skin was pale, her pupils blood-red, and her expression was chillingly fierce. Xu Yiming couldn’t help but shudder.

Huangfu Miaomiao also rushed over, spreading her arms to block the doorway alongside Xu Yiming. "You can’t go!"

"GET OUT OF MY WAY!—" Ye Zheng raged, bellowing, "I’m going to kill that Alien Species! Didn’t you hear it? There was a strange noise on the phone! She’s being attacked by the Alien Species! I’m going to help her! You idiots!!!"

Ye Zheng’s rage radiated a palpable pressure. Everyone in the truck felt their legs go weak. Xu Yiming was sweating profusely and struggling to breathe.

Huangfu Miaomiao wasn’t faring any better; her body was trembling uncontrollably. "Y-You can’t go! Feng Ling said your Pollution Value is too high! If you become emotionally unstable, we have to give you a sedative!"

When Ye Zheng heard Huangfu Miaomiao say the word "sedative," her eyes flew wide with fury, and a beastly roar erupted from her throat!

She shot out her right claw, seizing Huangfu Miaomiao by her slender neck and lifting her into the air—
