Chapter 447: Chapter 225: Secretly Coveting

Tining followed Pei Ze’s gaze, her eyes landing on the Spider Palace at the edge of the horizon.

Her innate intuition as a Magical Creature made her heart pound; she sensed a lethal danger lurking in the depths of that place.

RUMBLE!

The Wizard Towers high in the sky began to move, flying toward the Spider Demon Web.

Among the forty-odd Wizard Towers, the four at the head of the formation were the most conspicuous, their size alone a clear cut above the rest.

Dense Golden Rune Arrays floated across their surfaces, linked and interwoven like a giant golden net wrapping each Wizard Tower in layer upon layer, creating an effect that was as magnificent as it was profound.

These were the Large Wizard Towers belonging to four Sixth-level Wizards.

And they were clearly enhanced, possessing combat strength that far surpassed ordinary Large Wizard Towers.

Just as Pei Ze’s All-Knowing Wizard Tower outclassed ordinary Medium-sized Wizard Towers.

Following behind the four Large Wizard Towers were seventeen Medium-sized Wizard Towers.

Pei Ze’s All-Knowing Wizard Tower was one of them.

After a quick scan with his Eye of Omniscience, Pei Ze discovered four or five Wizard Towers with energy signatures that were every bit as powerful as his own.

’If I’m not mistaken, the masters of these towers must be Level 5 Wizards.’

’Only a Level 5 Wizard would have the financial resources to enhance a Medium-sized Wizard Tower—of course, that excluded a Level 4 Wizard like him, who had an ace up his sleeve.’

The remaining towers were all Small Wizard Towers, and they sensibly took up the rear.

However, even as Small Wizard Towers, they could still put up a fight against a fifth-level being when controlled by a Level 4 Wizard.

The forty-odd Wizard Towers made no attempt at concealment, streaking brazenly across the sky at high speed.

In truth, concealment was impossible.

The Dark Territory was already connected to the Spider Demon Web, effectively making it part of the Spider Queen’s domain.

The Spider Queen had surely detected them the moment the Wizard Towers entered the Dark Territory.

It would be ludicrous to think a Middle-tier Deity could miss such a conspicuous target as dozens of Wizard Towers moving in formation.

About half an hour later, a dividing line suddenly appeared on the monotonous, desolate plain below.

On the other side of the line lay a vast basin.

Countless monsters were slaughtering each other in the basin, sending flesh and gore flying through the air.

On one side were hideous, ugly monsters resembling masses of flesh sprouting tentacles.

Some were only the size of hounds.

Others stood over twenty meters tall, as massive as small mountains.

But without exception, their bodies radiated a dense, negative energy. In their wake, the very soil turned grayish-white and melted, gradually transforming into a viscous, nauseating sludge.

These were none other than the infected monsters created by Shrinking Ropar.

On the other side was a veritable sea of spiders.

They weren’t all true spiders, however; most were demons that had simply taken on arachnid forms.

This was because spiders received preferential treatment within the Spider Demon Web.

Demons that took on a spider’s form would have their strength augmented.

And now that the Dark Territory was partially fused with the Spider Demon Web, a similar rule had taken effect there as well.

In the distance, a dense tide of spiders surged out from the Spider Demon Web, an inexhaustible torrent with no apparent end.

The horrifying ocean of spiders advanced relentlessly. Their legs beat a rhythmic tattoo upon the ground—CLICK-CLICK-CLICK-CLICK—as if heralding the start of a great feast. They surged into the basin, jaws gaping and limbs raised, tearing at their enemies’ flesh with sharp fangs and claws, perfectly willing to die if it meant taking their foe with them.

The monsters born from the abomination’s infection were fearless, incapable of feeling terror. Yet, even they were forced into a steady retreat under the spiders’ ferocious, self-destructive assault.

After all, the number of infected monsters was finite, a far cry from the countless Prayerers the Spider Demon Web had accumulated over tens of thousands of years.

As time passed, the battlefront pushed slowly but inexorably toward a cave at the far end of the basin.

Pei Ze’s gaze passed over the battlefield and landed on the distant cave.

He could clearly sense a profoundly evil aura emanating from the cave.

The pitch-black mouth of the cave looked like a gaping maw, lying in wait for any uninvited guests.

Pei Ze immediately understood.

’Shrinking Ropar must be hiding in that cave.’

The Wizard Towers hovered over the battlefield, remaining motionless.

Below, the spiders and infected monsters seemed oblivious to the uninvited guests overhead, continuing their savage slaughter.

Soon, the battlefront had pushed to within a thousand meters of the cave.

The infected monsters were being squeezed into an increasingly tight corner.

But just then, a shrill, piercing scream, like the cry of an infant, suddenly echoed from the cave.

Along with it came a great gust of wind, tinged with a faint blackness.

The wind swept out in a fan-shaped blast, instantly covering more than half the battlefield.

Wherever it passed, the infected monsters remained unscathed, but the spiders, without exception, froze in place. Then, like rocks weathered over millennia, they slowly crumbled into dust and vanished into the air.

A huge clearing instantly appeared within the dense swarm of spiders.

"WAAAH!!"

The infant-like scream grew louder and louder.

A massive figure emerged from the cave, floating in the air.

It was a creature in the shape of a human infant, but its skin was damp, wrinkled, and bloated.

Its eyes were vacant and lifeless, nothing but a ghastly white remaining. Its head was hairless, and a nauseating, viscous fluid constantly dripped from the corners of its mouth.

Its arms were unnaturally long and thin, ending in sharp, vicious claws. Its legs were completely atrophied, dangling uselessly beneath its body like dead appendages.
