The Ancient Forest Plane.

The Red Agate Mountain Range.

Pyramid-like mounds, each fifty to sixty meters tall, stood majestically. They formed a continuous chain that snaked across the land before the Red Agate Mountain Range like a great dragon.

The giant mounds were riddled with honeycomb-like openings, from which countless insectoids swarmed in and out.

From high above, they looked like a teeming ant colony.

In the sky, swarms of insectoids also hovered and circled, flapping their wings with a constant buzz, as if on patrol.

On a mountain peak, Cameron and Pasha gazed out at the insectoids swarming over the land and sky, their faces grim.

"There are more and more of them."

Cameron’s brows were tightly knit, his expression grave.

Pasha’s lips were also pressed into a thin line, his eyes filled with anxiety.

Every day, a massive, unending stream of insectoids arrived from other regions.

It was obvious that the rest of the continent had, in all likelihood, already been conquered by the insectoids.

Now, the Red Agate Mountain Range was likely the last sanctuary on the entire continent.

However, the situation was grim.

The insectoids had launched four or five attacks recently, each more ferocious than the last. The Magical Creature clans gathered in the Red Agate Mountain Range were gradually starting to buckle under the pressure. It was impossible to know how much longer they could hold on.

"Let’s go. Let’s return and see Elder Leiot."

Cameron turned and walked down the mountain peak.

Pasha sighed and followed.

After migrating from the Golden Forest, they had settled in a mountain forest.

Resources in the Red Agate Mountain Range were scarce to begin with. The sudden influx of so many Magical Creatures only made things worse. They had spent much of their time worrying about securing enough food.

’I just hope this doesn’t last too long.’

Back in the mountain forest, Cameron and Pasha went straight to its deepest part.

A colossal golden oak tree dominated the heart of the forest. Its lush canopy spread out in all directions, as if to blot out the sky. ℯ

"Elder."

Cameron and Pasha bowed together.

"You have worked hard, my children."

The canopy trembled slightly, and Elder Leiot’s gentle voice drifted out from amidst the rustling leaves.

"How is the situation?"

Cameron’s voice was heavy. "Not good, Elder. The number of insectoids has grown again. I’m afraid we won’t be able to hold back their next assault."

"Even with the Black Hole Monster and Hidden Dragon Beast clans?"

At the mention of these two Magical Creature clans, a dark look crossed Cameron’s face. "Elder, those two clans aren’t taking this fight seriously at all. They’re cowards, only interested in preserving their own strength. Last time, if they hadn’t suddenly retreated, we wouldn’t have been caught in a pincer attack by the insectoids and suffered such heavy losses!"

"When I went to speak with them, they acted as if they’d done nothing wrong. I’m sure they’ll do the same thing next time—try to preserve their own strength. It’s a mistake to place any hope in them."

Pasha’s face also showed an indignant expression.

He was clearly furious with the recent actions of the Black Hole Monsters and Hidden Dragon Beasts.

Hearing this, Elder Leiot fell silent for a moment before letting out a sigh.

This was the primary reason the Ancient Forest Plane had collapsed so quickly under the insectoid invasion.

The major Magical Creature clans all fought for themselves. It was nearly impossible for them to unite selflessly against the insectoids, so naturally, they were beaten back again and again by the ferocious onslaught until their forces were utterly routed.

In the end, it was a trait inherent to their bestial nature.

"Elder."

Pasha suddenly spoke, a hesitant look on his face. After a moment’s pause, he finally voiced his thoughts.

"Do you really think Lord Pei Ze will come and help us?"

Cameron’s expression tensed, and he too looked to Elder Leiot.

In their current situation, Pei Ze was their only hope.

"He will."

Leiot laughed gently, his tone firm and certain.

"Even if you do not trust him, you must trust in the power of the contract."

"He will definitely come."

Cameron and Pasha didn’t seem to fully understand. They knew nothing of a Wizard’s contract, but hearing Elder Leiot’s words greatly eased their anxiety.

"I wonder when Lord Pei Ze will get here," Pasha said.

Cameron’s brow was furrowed, and he remained silent.

Just then, a piercing shriek echoed from the distance. It was immediately followed by a low, heavy buzzing, as if countless insects were flapping their wings in unison.

Cameron and Pasha’s expressions changed at the same time.

They had heard that same sound at least ten times recently. It was the signal for an insectoid attack.

"Damn those insectoids!"

Cameron cursed under his breath and, without hesitation, turned and charged out.

Soon, a shrill whistle echoed through the woods. The entire forest erupted into activity as hordes of Thorn Spirits poured out from every corner. They quickly formed ranks before charging out of the forest.

By the time Cameron led the Thorn Spirit Warriors out of the forest, they were met with the sight of an overwhelming tide of insects.

A dense swarm carpeted the earth, stretching so far into the distance that there was no end in sight.

Countless flying insects circled overhead, the rapid beat of their wings creating a low, suffocating buzz.

The entire world seemed to have been overrun by hideous, ugly Insect Beasts. The scene before them was enough to drive anyone to despair.

Cameron’s face was ashen.

The Thorn Spirit Warriors behind him looked equally grim.

The swarm before them was more than twice the size of the last one. Could they really stop this attack?

WHOOSH!

A light breeze suddenly kicked up.

Cameron turned to look and saw clusters of spherical black mist slowly drifting in from behind and to his left.

Sunlight fell upon the pitch-black mist, but instead of passing through, it seemed to be devoured, vanishing without a trace.
