In the bathroom, a stream of warm water poured endlessly from the showerhead.

Jiang Xia squeezed out some body wash, lathered it between his hands, and gently spread it over Lin Yanwan’s delicate, smooth skin.

Her body trembled slightly. In the hazy steam, her entire form seemed to be suffused with a faint pink blush.

He wrapped her perfect body in a clean bath towel, and with a slight exertion of his arms, he scooped her up and carried her toward the bedroom.

Outside the window, the night deepened.

At some point, a fierce winter rain had replaced the light, fluttering snow.

The windows RATTLED with a sharp crackle. Down below, the flowerbeds were battered by the wind and rain, which relentlessly ravaged the blossoms that had struggled to bud in the winter air.

The gale raged, and petals heavy with rainwater swayed and scattered. Lonely blades of grass were caught in the violent storm, helplessly tossed every which way.

Puddles gradually formed in the residential complex. Someone returning home late at night scurried along under an umbrella, splashing through the water. A single misstep sent mud flying all over them.

The squall continued like this for the entire night. Only when the darkness was broken by the dawn did the raging winter rain slowly cease.

The sky turned the color of a fish’s pale underbelly.

In the complex, ruined flowers lay piled on the ground, and the path, trampled by passersby hurrying home last night, was a muddy mess.

An early bird poked its head out of its nest, gently spread its wings, shook off the rainwater that had soaked its feathers, and quickly flew away.

Listening to the CHIRPING outside his window, Jiang Xia slowly opened his eyes. Despite having exerted himself all night, he felt surprisingly energetic.

He looked down at his wife sleeping peacefully in his arms. Her delicate little face was still streaked with the traces of tears.

Jiang Xia smiled faintly, kissed her forehead, and carefully climbed out of bed, making sure to tuck her in.

He got dressed and walked to the window. Seeing the mess the storm had made of the complex outside, he couldn’t help but sigh. ’That rain last night was really something else.’

A glance at the time showed it was just past seven in the morning. Remembering he had to go to the office to lead the morning meeting, he headed out to buy breakfast.

The security door clicked shut softly. A moment later, Lin Yanwan also slowly woke up. The blankets were filled with Jiang Xia’s scent, but when she opened her eyes, he was nowhere to be seen.

’If she didn’t know him so well, she might have thought he was just some heartless jerk.’

She peeked under the covers, and as she thought about their wild night, a shy look flickered in her eyes.

A short while later, Jiang Xia returned with steaming hot soy milk and fried dough sticks, intending to help his wife replenish her energy.

Hearing the noise, Lin Yanwan immediately shrank her naked body back under the covers. She looked at Jiang Xia as he walked into the bedroom and huffed softly, "Jerk."

He used to hold her until she woke up naturally, but now that he’d had his way with her, he was gone the next morning.

"Men are all the same. Once you get what you want, you stop cherishing it," she said with a pout.

Jiang Xia felt a little awkward. He had been gentle at first, but then he’d gotten carried away. ’It has to be said,’ he thought, ’an eighteen-year-old’s body is just brimming with energy.’

"Um, want me to give you a massage?"

"Get away from me. I know you’d start rubbing and then get up to no good. Absolutely not today!"

Jiang Xia chuckled. He didn’t mind his wife’s teasing; he understood the situation well enough.

"Where’d you go so early in the morning?" Lin Yanwan asked.

"I went to get you breakfast. Want some soy milk and fried dough sticks?"

"Yes!" Yanwan said. She had gotten hungry in the middle of the night.

She was about to get out of bed to wash up, but Jiang Xia gently pushed her back down.

"You just rest today. It’s best if you stay in bed and don’t go anywhere. Just call me if you need anything." Jiang Xia went to put toothpaste on a brush and brought her a cup for rinsing.

Lin Yanwan grinned, pleased with how he was treating her.

She brushed her teeth in bed, then took a mouthful of clean water, SWISHED it around, and spat it all into the trash can.

"I want the fried dough sticks soaked in soy milk, and you have to feed me!" Lin Yanwan tilted her head back slightly, the very picture of coquettishness.

"Aah—open wide."

"Aah—it’s open."

Like two children, one fed and the other ate, their coordination perfectly in sync.

After breakfast, Lin Yanwan burrowed back under the covers, leaving only her head poking out.

"Do you have to go to the office right now?" she asked.

Jiang Xia nodded. "It’s the first day back after the New Year. I have to go in."

He turned to look at his wife and smiled. "You should stay home. Just rest and wait for me to come back. It shouldn’t be too long, half a day at most."

"Okay," Lin Yanwan nodded softly.

Just as Jiang Xia was about to leave, Lin Yanwan called out to him. "You’ve changed. Aren’t you going to give me a hug?"

He chuckled, walked to the side of the bed, and lifted a corner of the blanket, only to find she still wasn’t wearing anything.

"See? How am I supposed to hug you like this?"

Lin Yanwan feigned outrage. "You were bold enough to do bad things to me last night, but now you’re too scared to hug me?"

She suddenly tackled Jiang Xia, pinning him to the bed and straddling him. She wouldn’t be satisfied until she had left a couple of fresh hickeys on his neck.

Jiang Xia couldn’t help but find it amusing. ’Before they took that final step, she was always so shy and hesitant whenever he wanted to be intimate. But now, she’s the one taking the initiative to tease him.’

He gave her bouncy bottom a light slap and gazed up at her, a fiery glint appearing in his eyes.
