After the Divorce, My Wife and I Were Both Reborn
Chapter 338 - 335: Fool
Chapter 338: Chapter 335: Fool
"Wow! Woooow!"
Lin Xiaoman pressed her face against the glass of the Ferris wheel cabin, watching as the ground slowly receded and the crowd below shrank into tiny figures. Her eyes shone with irrepressible amazement.
Jiang Xia slowly pulled his gaze away from the beautiful scenery outside the window. He turned to look at the bright eyes of his wife beside him. He always found himself unconsciously drawn to them.
"What are you looking at me for?"
Lin Yanwan’s gaze met his, and a gentle, graceful smile touched her lips.
"Because you’re beautiful, of course."
Jiang Xia smiled faintly, taking her small, jade-like hands in his. Their fingers intertwined, locking together gently.
A faint blush crept onto Lin Yanwan’s soft, pretty face. Her eyes fell to their clasped hands as she whispered, "Then you should look a little longer."
Jiang Xia leaned closer, his eyes roving over her as if to memorize her delicate features. As his lips drew near, Lin Yanwan leaned back slightly and raised a hand between them, saying shyly, "Xiao Man is here."
"Brother-in-law, Xiao Man is looking at the scenery outside. Xiao Man doesn’t know you’re smooching. Xiao Man can’t see anything at all," the little sister-in-law said, gripping the window’s guardrail. The afternoon sun cast shifting shadows across her adorable little face.
Lin Yanwan’s expression darkened. ’They hadn’t even started kissing!’
"No peeking, and no eavesdropping! Or I won’t take you out with us next time!"
The little sister-in-law quickly clapped her hands over her ears in mock fear. "No, Sister! Xiao Man can’t hear anything now!"
Jiang Xia didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at his precocious little sister-in-law. ’How does she know so much!?’
Jiang Xia sat up straight again, wrapped an arm around her waist, and asked softly, "Babe, I think this is our first time on a Ferris wheel, isn’t it?"
"Mhm."
Lin Yanwan nodded slowly. Thinking back, in their past life, they had been together for so long and had done so many romantic things, but they had never once ridden a Ferris wheel.
"It’s not too late now," she said with a smile.
When you’re with the person you love, it doesn’t matter what you do. As long as there’s romance in your heart, you’ll find it everywhere.
Her understanding warmed Jiang Xia’s heart. "How can you be so wonderful?"
Lin Yanwan shook her head. "You’re wonderful too."
"Babe, let’s kiss. I want to kiss you."
She glanced instinctively at Xiao Man and saw that she was still obediently covering her ears. With a shy nod, she closed her eyes, faced the winter sun, and slowly tilted up her smooth chin.
At the very top of the Ferris wheel, Jiang Xia slowly leaned in and kissed her. Their lips met, and their tongues intertwined.
Lin Xiaoman stealthily turned her head back around. She watched as the golden sunlight streamed through the glass window, casting the silhouette of her brother-in-law and sister kissing inside the cabin. Her eyes grew wider and wider...
◇
The Ferris wheel completed a full circle and slowly came to a stop. Jiang Xia stepped out of the cabin, holding his wife’s and his little sister-in-law’s hands, only to run right into Wang Ming and the others.
Lin Xiaoman was so scared she quickly hid behind Jiang Xia, muttering, "It’s over, it’s over! Brother Wang Ming found us."
Jiang Xia gently patted his little sister-in-law’s head, then looked up at the two people in front of him and smiled. "What a coincidence. You guys are here for the Ferris wheel too?"
Wang Ming was a little embarrassed. It turned out Shen Ying had been right; it really was them.
"Ahem, yeah... it is a coincidence."
"Well, you two have fun. I’m going to take Xiao Man to another ride." After a pause, Jiang Xia added, "And... the Ferris wheel really is nice."
He pressed his lips together. He could still taste his wife on them.
"Yingying, we’re heading off then. Bye-bye~" Lin Yanwan said with a teasing wink and a wave.
"Uh... o-okay."
Seeing her good friend’s meaningful expression, Shen Ying blushed as if her own little secret had just been exposed.
"Shen Ying, they’re gone. Are we... are we still going to ride it?" Wang Ming asked uncertainly.
"We’re already here..."
Seeing him still standing there in a daze, Shen Ying gently pushed his back and whispered, "Come on, let’s go."
"Oh, right."
One after the other, they stepped into the cabin. The door closed, and they began their slow ascent. In the enclosed space, both of their minds were in a jumble, and it felt as if they could hear their own heartbeats.
Shen Ying gripped the guardrail and looked out the window. The slowly passing scenery was perfect. The roller coasters and landmarks she could only look up at before had now shrunk to become just a small part of her view.
Wang Ming’s attention, however, wasn’t on the beautiful scenery at all. He watched Shen Ying’s loose hair, took a deep breath, and then slowly exhaled. But he still felt tense.
He had clearly thought of so many things to say on the way here, but at this very moment, he couldn’t get a single word out.
Shen Ying suddenly turned to look at him and, finding him staring at her, pretended not to notice.
"Look at the view outside. It’s so beautiful."
She pointed to a roller coaster track not far away. From this angle, the track seemed to be built over rolling hills. Accompanied by screams carried on the wind, a dragon-like train rumbled and coiled, crossing one peak after another.
"It is beautiful," Wang Ming said, looking at Shen Ying’s profile.
It was unclear if he was talking about the scenery or about Shen Ying, but in that moment, Shen Ying truly was beautiful.
The sunlight of the moment, the sky of the moment, the city below that was flowing by and growing ever blurrier—everything in the outside world was slowly fading away.
At the highest point, closest to the sky, the view was like a brilliant sunset in the distance, filling the eyes with anticipation and joy painted in a wash of colors. It was like a natural filter, making everything before them perfectly, tenderly gentle.
Wang Ming closed his eyes for a moment, let out a soft breath, and said quietly, "Shen Ying."
"Huh?"
Shen Ying turned back to meet his faintly shimmering gaze.
"What kind of person do you think I am?"
"You? Hmm, let me think. In high school, I felt you were pretty much like the other guys—you liked to shout, you were kind of careless, and a lot of the time you seemed a bit clueless. But after you started drawing Cat and Mouse with Jiang Xia, you changed. You became less flashy and more reserved. And after half a year of college, I saw a maturity in you that was different from other guys our age."
"Anything else?"
"Does being a blockhead sometimes count?" Shen Ying asked, tilting her head.
"A blockhead?"
"Yeah, a total blockhead, haha..."
She burst out laughing, but Wang Ming still didn’t get it.
But none of that mattered.
He nervously swallowed, his throat dry. "I think you’re wonderful. Better than any other girl I’ve ever met..."
Shen Ying’s eyes gradually brightened, crinkling as she smiled. "Why do you say that?"
"You’re kind, gentle, cute, and poised..."
"And?" Shen Ying asked, staring into his eyes.
"I... I..." Wang Ming pressed his lips together, suppressing his rapidly beating heart. "...am really happy to be friends with you."
Shen Ying froze for a second. Not hearing the words she had been hoping for, she felt an inexplicable sense of disappointment.
She looked at him as he turned his face away, a bead of sweat glistening on the tip of his nose from nervousness.
She whispered one word:
"Blockhead."
