Chapter 230: Chapter 228: You’ll Get Used to It After Eating More Dog Food
The next day, just before eight in the morning, Jiang Xia drowsily smelled meat buns in his sleep. He opened his eyes and turned to see a sweat-drenched Su Qing getting ready to take a shower.
"Morning, Nanny Su."
"Oh, you’re up? I left breakfast for you on the table. Get up and eat before it gets cold," Su Qing said.
Jiang Xia craned his neck and looked down from his bunk. Three buns and a cup of soy milk. ’Calling him Nanny Su was definitely worth it.’
"Did you just get back from a morning run?"
"Yeah, I ran a few laps around the track. I was surprised by how many people were out."
Seeing Jiang Xia’s still-languid expression, Su Qing couldn’t help but say, "I heard Tsinghua takes physical education really seriously. You can’t graduate if you don’t know how to swim, and for the final, guys have to run 3000 meters and girls run 1500. Your score counts toward your credits. So, do you want to start working out with me?"
"Ah... well, I’ll train when I get the time."
Jiang Xia brushed off the question. As someone who grew up by the Yangtze River, he knew how to swim. He’d never had formal lessons, so his form was sloppy—more like doggy-paddling—but at least he could manage a few dozen meters.
As for the long-distance run, ’cramming a few days before the test should be enough, right?’
He was full of confidence in this eighteen-year-old body of his.
"Where are the other two?"
Jiang Xia got dressed and climbed down from his bunk. Zhao Ning’s and Zhou Zijian’s beds were empty, their quilts folded neatly.
"I think they went to pick up their textbooks," Su Qing said.
"Oh, right."
He then remembered that he was also supposed to get his textbooks today, along with his military training uniform.
However, he had made plans with his girlfriend last night to check out the Science Park near campus today. He wasn’t sure if the times would conflict.
Su Qing said, "Our class is going this afternoon."
"How do you know?"
"The class monitor posted a notice in the QQ group chat. You didn’t join the group?"
Jiang Xia nodded. The academic advisor had written the QQ group number on the blackboard yesterday, but he had indeed forgotten to join.
"Nanny Su, I have something this afternoon. If I can’t make it back, could you maybe grab my stuff for me?"
"Yeah, no problem." He agreed, then grabbed a change of clothes and went to shower.
After brushing his teeth, Jiang Xia alternated between bites of a bun and sips of soy milk, pulling out his phone to see several messages from Lin Yanwan.
"Are you awake?"
"Want to go to the cafeteria together?"
"If you don’t reply in five minutes, I’m going with my roommates."
"I’m going to get my books in a bit. When are you planning on heading out?"
"I’ve finished breakfast. Get up, you pig!"
"Should I bring you breakfast?"
Jiang Xia chuckled softly after reading the chat log, which spanned more than thirty minutes. ’My girl’s personality seems to have gotten even more youthful since starting university.’
’Could it be that she’s become more unrestrained now that she’s away from home and its rules?’
’That’s good news.’
"I’m up. Nanny Su brought me buns and soy milk. Where are you now?" Jiang Xia typed.
"In line at the Academic Affairs Office to get my textbooks," Lin Yanwan replied quickly. "Did you stay up late again? Doesn’t the power in the dorms shut off at eleven-thirty?"
"No, a roommate was snoring last night, and my internal clock isn’t adjusted yet. I didn’t fall asleep until almost one."
"Oh, well, hurry up and eat."
"Okay, I’ll be over in a bit."
Jiang Xia wolfed down his buns and checked the weather forecast. It was overcast today, with a temperature of 28 degrees. He had to admit, summers in the north were much cooler than in the south. If this were Yu Du, it would be at least 35 degrees by now.
"Nanny Su, I’m heading out," he said loudly, walking up to the bathroom door.
Su Qing’s voice came from behind the sound of the running shower. "Alright, go on."
"Ha, thanks for the buns. They were delicious."
He stood in front of the mirror, checking himself from different angles. His hair wasn’t messy. The corners of his mouth lifted into a slight smile. He was undeniably handsome.
Closing the dorm room door, he also gave Wang Ming a call. Since they were looking for a new office space, it was important to get another opinion.
"Old Wang, what are you up to?"
"Library. Reading."
Wang Ming’s voice was quiet. The official move-in day for the Central Academy of Fine Arts was still a few days away, so he had arrived early. The library was the only place he could go to read up on animation production.
"Well, hurry and get out of there. We’re going to check out the Tsinghua Science Park."
"Yeah, alright."
After hanging up, Jiang Xia walked briskly toward the Academic Affairs Office.
He finally understood why there were so many bicycles at Tsinghua University. The campus was so huge that walking anywhere took twenty to thirty minutes. At this rate, his daily step count on WeChat could easily be number one among his friends.
He wondered if the university even allowed students to drive on campus. In a little while, once the company started making money, he could buy a car in the company’s name to drive around.
No, that wasn’t right. ’After my rebirth, I don’t have a driver’s license yet. I’ll have to find time to pass the test.’
Thinking about it, he really had a lot on his plate: studying, work, and getting a driver’s license.
He already knew how to drive, though. He just wasn’t sure how strict the driving test was in the Imperial Capital. If he only had to show up on test day and pass the practical exam, it wouldn’t be much trouble at all.
More than twenty minutes later, Jiang Xia found his girlfriend waiting in the crowd.
"Yanwan, Yanwan, your boyfriend’s here," Cui Jiaying whispered with a laugh to the other girls.
"So? Let him come," Lin Yanwan said, her tone feigning indifference, but she snuck a glance at Jiang Xia, her eyes filled with delight.
"Tsk, Handsome Jiang, is your class getting books too?" Cui Jiaying asked with a smile.
Jiang Xia shook his head. "My class is this afternoon."
"And what about that... tall, handsome roommate of yours?" she asked, batting her eyes.
"He’s in the dorm."
"Then what are you doing here?"
"To help my baby carry her books, of course. Four years’ worth of books is heavy, and the walk back to the dorm is so long. What if her hands get tired?" he said, looking at his girlfriend with a perfectly straight face. To everyone else, however, it was just a blatant public display of affection.
Lin Yanwan blushed slightly. ’In front of all these people, can’t this guy tone it down a bit?’
By now, many people in the class were looking at Jiang Xia. The title of being the class belle’s boyfriend was enough to draw attention to him.
Unfortunately, the guy was so handsome, and his height and proportions were so perfect, that they couldn’t even find a flaw to pick at or a reason to insult him to satisfy their jealousy.
’How infuriating!’
"Ugh, more PDA. Please, give us a break. We just ate breakfast, we’re already stuffed," Si Si said.
"Then are you guys going to help my girl carry her books back later?" Jiang Xia asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No way!"
"See? You’re the one who’s unwilling. Looks like you’ll have to keep eating this dog food. Eat enough and you’ll get used to it."
As the group joked around, they suddenly heard someone shout, "They’re handing out books! Everyone from Business Administration, Class One, follow me."
