Chapter 210: Chapter 208: The Damned Couple on the Plane

"You’re going to the Imperial Capital today, too?"

Hearing a familiar voice, Wang Ming turned his head. Standing before him was none other than Chen Yao. She wore a long denim skirt with a black belt at her waist and a pair of white sneakers. With her hair casually down, her whole aura seemed completely different than before.

Chen Yao gazed out the glass window at the planes taking off and landing. "Where’s Jiang Xia?" she asked calmly. "He didn’t come?"

"Isn’t he right over there?" Wang Ming gestured with his chin toward the incredibly lovey-dovey couple.

Chen Yao glanced over, then coolly retracted her gaze. ’Honestly, all they ever do is act all lovey-dovey. Don’t they get sick of it?’

’She really wanted to tell them to just go home and have kids. Why even bother with college?’

"How come you’re going to the Imperial Capital today, too?" Wang Ming asked.

"Tsinghua and Peking University are right across from each other. What do you think?" Chen Yao looked at him like he was an idiot.

The corner of Wang Ming’s eye twitched. ’Even if they’re neighbors, it doesn’t necessarily mean new student orientation is on the same day,’ he thought. But there was no point in arguing about it.

He pulled out his own boarding pass. "What time is your flight? Mine’s at five-ten."

"Same as yours."

"Tsk, what a coincidence."

"A coincidence indeed. We’re even in adjacent seats," Chen Yao said after a quick glance.

"You’re 36E?"

"No, I’m 36C."

The seats in each row were designated A, B, C, D, E, and F. A and F were window seats, with the aisle running between C and D. Therefore, based on the alphabetical order, they were indeed in adjacent seats.

"Ah, I get it. You and Old Jiang are the ones who are actually neighbors, and his girl is right next to him. Tsk, fate works in mysterious ways."

Wang Ming grinned knowingly. ’He had a feeling some drama was about to unfold. A group with this mix of guys and girls usually devolved into a scene where female lead number one and female lead number two fought tooth and nail over the male protagonist. Isn’t that the most common cliché in romance novels?’

Chen Yao was silent for a moment. "In that case, let’s switch seats in a bit."

In her view, Lin Yanwan was basically made of pure jealousy. It was better to steer clear in advance, lest she get covered in the metaphorical sour fumes.

"Huh?"

"Old Wang, you’re not actually going to refuse a request from a beautiful woman, are you?"

The ice queen suddenly gave him a very stiff wink. Wang Ming couldn’t stand it; he cringed so hard that goosebumps broke out all over his body.

"Alright, alright, just act normal. I’ll go back to seeing you as a beauty if you do."

"Then it’s settled," Chen Yao nodded, reverting to her usual aloof demeanor.

"Old Wang, let’s go! We’re about to board," Jiang Xia’s voice called from a short distance away.

He saw Chen Yao and his gaze faltered for a second. ’Well, what do you know. Can’t believe we ran into her here, too.’

Wang Ming and Chen Yao walked over. He didn’t say a word, a part of him inexplicably hoping to see some drama. But there had never been any rumors between Jiang Xia and Chen Yao. The young couple’s relationship was ridiculously strong, the kind that gave no one else even a sliver of a chance.

"You’re on the same flight as us?"

Jiang Xia was a little surprised to see Chen Yao lining up behind Wang Ming.

"Mhm."

Jiang Xia nodded and didn’t ask any more questions. It was actually pretty nice, he thought, heading to the Imperial Capital surrounded by familiar faces.

The group followed the boarding announcement to the gate. After their tickets were scanned, they successfully boarded the plane to the Imperial Capital.

He found his seat and glanced between Wang Ming and Chen Yao. It wasn’t hard to guess they had switched places. ’She probably wanted to avoid any unnecessary misunderstandings, huh?’ he thought.

Of course, as far as Jiang Xia was concerned, this arrangement was for the best. With Old Wang next to him, he could practically treat him as if he were invisible and be as affectionate as he wanted with his girlfriend. Besides, Old Wang was used to it; his immunity had been greatly enhanced.

Before the plane took off, many passengers were calling their friends and relatives, so their families wouldn’t worry when they became unreachable for the three-to-four-hour flight.

Before long, the plane slowly accelerated for takeoff. In the instant it lifted off the ground, everyone felt a momentary sensation of being pushed back into their seats.

Wang Ming gazed out the small window. The runway slowly receded from view, and as he looked out, he could see almost half of the Yu Du cityscape. Then the plane continued to climb until all he could see was a sea of white clouds.

He stared blankly like that for a while until the novelty of his first flight wore off. There was the occasional bit of light turbulence. At first, he’d been nervous, worried about a plane crash or something, but he later realized it was no different from a car slightly shaking as it went over a bumpy road.

He glanced around casually. At some point, Chen Yao had taken out a book and was engrossed in it. Wang Ming stared for a moment and could vaguely make out something about "law." He figured it was another one of her specialized textbooks. The sight of the densely packed tiny print was enough to give him a headache.

Meanwhile, beside him, the damned couple’s hands were clasped tightly together, and Lin Yanwan’s head was resting on Jiang Xia’s shoulder. Wang Ming had no doubt that if it weren’t for the armrest between them, the two of them would probably be in a full-on embrace.

As for the other passengers, the vast majority had their eyes closed, resting. After all, there wasn’t much to do on a plane, so it was better to take the opportunity to nap. By the time they woke up, they would have more or less landed.

’If he’d known, he would’ve brought a novel or a comic book from home to kill time.’

"Babe, do you want to close your eyes and get some sleep? We still have over three hours until we get to the Imperial Capital," Jiang Xia asked softly.

Lin Yanwan shook her head gently. "I’m not sleepy."

She gazed out the window at the sea of clouds, which was tinged with a golden halo. At this altitude, the sun showed no signs of setting yet and was quite dazzling.

Her mind drifted to what Jiang Xia had told her before. ’Since I’ve already decided to make animation with him, it’s not so bad to be the one supporting him from the sidelines.’

’Happiness is two like-minded people being able to work on the same thing together. If you can do that thing for a lifetime, then that’s a lifetime of happiness.’

’It was a very simple principle.’

Lin Yanwan turned her head and gave Jiang Xia a quick peck on the face.

"What was that for?" Jiang Xia chuckled.

"You looked like you were starved for affection, so I thought I’d give you a little treat," she giggled.

"Darn, I thought I hid it so well, but you still saw right through me." He leaned his face in closer. "I think I might be lacking a lot of affection. How about a few more kisses, honey?"

"Mwah~"

"My lips, too."

"Mwah~"

Witnessing this scene, Wang Ming’s face practically twisted in envy. ’Dammit, can’t that damned couple show some consideration for their surroundings when they’re being all lovey-dovey? Are they really just going to cast a wide-area, true-damage AoE spell at the drop of a hat?’ he fumed.

He turned to look at Chen Yao, who was completely engrossed in her book, and realized she was the one with real foresight. ’As long as you keep your distance, you can’t get hurt.’

He decided to just close his eyes and try to sleep. ’If you can’t see it, the negative effects will be minimized.’

Wang Ming secretly made a resolution: if he ever hung out with these two again, he was a dog.

Unless he found a girlfriend, too.
