Chapter 135: Chapter 134: There’s Only You in My Heart

"Lin Cucu, rein it in~ You’re so sour, the Three-Body People four light-years away can smell you."

On their way, Jiang Xia leaned close to her ear and chuckled softly.

Recalling her embarrassing behavior from a moment ago, Lin Yanwan’s face flushed. She twisted away, nudging him with her shoulder in embarrassment. "She doesn’t smell like anything, so why don’t you go find her!"

"But I don’t like her, so why would I go looking for her?" Jiang Xia said with a grin, reaching for her hand. "I only like you. I liked you in my past life, I like you in this one, and I’ll like you in my next life and the one after that, too."

Their fingers intertwined. With a hint of shyness in her eyes, Lin Yanwan wrinkled her nose and stubbornly explained, "I really wasn’t jealous. I was just being nice and inviting your classmate to join us. It’s fine if she didn’t appreciate the offer, but then she went and said all that weird stuff for no reason."

Jiang Xia let out a soft laugh. "Right, right. You’re so magnanimous, you could forgive anything. My baby has such a big heart, she wouldn’t mind at all even if I got close to other girls."

Her grip on his hand instantly tightened. Lin Yanwan stopped walking, pursed her lips, and said in a small voice, "Actually... I’m not *that* magnanimous."

"And how magnanimous is ’not that magnanimous’?"

"About this much." She shyly held up two fingers, pinching them close together. Her magnanimity was probably just enough to hold a teeny, tiny little paper boat.

"Got it. So what you’re saying, baby, is that I can get *this* close to other girls!" Jiang Xia teased.

"You dare!"

Lin Yanwan gritted her teeth and glared at him. Realizing he’d tricked her, she turned her head away and huffed, "Fine. You go find your ’little girls,’ and I’ll go find some pretty boys. We’ll match each other, closeness for closeness. Let’s see who regrets it more."

"Whoa, whoa, baby, don’t be like that. I was just joking. I was wrong," Jiang Xia quickly backpedaled. "You know my heart is even smaller than yours and I get even more jealous. In our past life, I was sour for days when that other guy sent you flowers."

Remembering how he used to get all sulky and sour-tongued, Lin Yanwan couldn’t help but smile. They were both huge vinegar jars, completely intolerant of any impurity in their relationship.

"You’re the only one in my heart," Jiang Xia said earnestly.

She whispered back, "Me too..."

Jiang Xia lifted her hand for a kiss and smiled. "Baby, you were really starting to sound like the lady boss just now."

She lowered her gaze and gently shook his hand, her voice soft. "I’m sorry. I won’t throw tantrums when we’re out anymore."

’After all, you have to help a man save face in public. Even if we disagreed, some things had to wait until we were home. Then, as a couple, they could discuss it slowly—and figure out if the punishment would be kneeling on a washboard, a durian, or just skipping straight to writing a formal letter of apology.’

Jiang Xia smiled. "It just depends on the situation. A little bit is fine. In some cases, it’s better for you to be the one to speak up, not me."

"Okay, I’ll keep that in mind," Lin Yanwan nodded.

Trailing behind them, Wang Ming and Shen Ying walked slowly, one in front of the other. Neither said much. They just watched the lovey-dovey couple ahead, forced to stomach a metric ton of PDA. Their eyes were filled with a mixture of envy and bewilderment.

’They’d only been dating for a few months, but they were already acting like an old married couple. Was that even possible? It didn’t seem possible. What were the couples who fought every other day supposed to think?’

They walked all the way to the food stalls by the river. At this hour, every stall was bustling with business. The four of them found a table where they could feel the river breeze, and a server immediately came over.

"What can I get for you folks?"

"Uh, let’s start with a big four-pound grilled fish. Then get us an order of lamb skewers, grilled eggplant, pork brain, spicy rabbit heads, and grilled chives."

Jiang Xia looked up at the other two and said magnanimously, "You two order whatever you want. The company’s covering everything tonight!"

"Boss, that’s plenty," Shen Ying said. "We might not even be able to finish a four-pound fish."

Wang Ming glanced at the lively scene at the next table, which was covered in bottles of all sizes. He mused, "Old Jiang, on a momentous day like today, we’ve got to have a few drinks to celebrate, don’t you think?"

Lin Yanwan glanced at Jiang Xia, then said with a smile, "Wang Ming, Jiang Xia has a cut on his face today, so he won’t be drinking."

Old Wang’s breath hitched. He had no choice but to awkwardly retract his suggestion. Since the lady boss had spoken, insisting on drinks would be seriously overstepping his bounds.

"However..." Lin Yanwan’s tone shifted. "I can have a drink with you."

"Huh?"

Jiang Xia blinked. ’At this moment,’ he thought, ’she’s just like one of those capable wives who can handle the social side of things for her husband.’

"Maybe we should just stick to soft drinks?"

Wang Ming got a little scared. Lin Yanwan was his friend’s girl and his lady boss; he wouldn’t dare pressure her into drinking.

"It’s fine. Today is definitely an occasion for a drink," Lin Yanwan said with a smile, then called out to the server. "Hey, can we get six bottles of cold beer and a bottle of Weiyi? Oh, and make all the barbecue we ordered non-spicy, please."

"You got it, coming right up."

Jiang Xia squeezed her hand. She just shook her head and whispered, "It’s fine. If I get drunk later, you’ll be there to take me home anyway."

’Hearing this, Wang Ming was so envious he could have ground his molars to dust. Did that lucky bastard save the galaxy in a past life? It’s one thing for his girlfriend to be a gorgeous beauty, but she’s also incredibly good to him.’

’He desperately wanted to ask, ’Are you two sure you haven’t had kids together? How else can she be so trusting? Isn’t she worried that if she gets drunk, Jiang Xia will take advantage of her?’’

The wait for the grilled fish was slow, but the other small dishes arrived quickly. Jiang Xia was gnawing on the replacement braised duck head when he suddenly got a call from Li Weiya.

He picked up his phone and waved it in front of Wang Ming. "It’s your mom."

"She’s probably calling to congratulate you." Wang Ming knew his mother’s temperament all too well.

Jiang Xia nodded with a smile and answered the phone. "Hello, Aunt Li."

"Hello, Ah Xia."

Li Weiya stood by her window, looking out at the night sky with a faint smile. "I watched the premiere of *Cat and Mouse*. The reception seems to be very good from all accounts. The ratings for the first broadcast should be high. Congratulations."

"I have to thank you for your guidance, Aunt Li. It definitely wouldn’t have gone so smoothly otherwise," Jiang Xia said with a laugh.

"Ah Xia, you’re being too modest. I barely helped at all. In my opinion, the success of *Cat and Mouse* was inevitable."

Li Weiya couldn’t help but feel a little emotional. ’Being able to watch your student achieve success step-by-step... this must be what it feels like to be truly gratified.’

She had been an artist for half her life. Her childhood dream was to be a painter, and she later became an art director for an animation company. Now, to see both her student and her son walk the same path and achieve such great success... words couldn’t describe how happy she felt.

"Is Ah Ming with you?" she asked with a smile.

"Yep, we’re eating barbecue at the food stalls by the river. Auntie, do you want to join us? We’ll save you a spot." As he spoke, Jiang Xia glanced at Wang Ming, who was gleefully gnawing on a duck head.

"No, no, you young people go ahead and have your fun. Oh, and don’t drink too much. Don’t get wasted like last time, you hear?" she reminded him.

"Got it, Aunt Li. Don’t you worry."

"That’s good."

Just as Li Weiya was about to hang up, Jiang Xia suddenly said,

"Aunt Li, there’s actually something I’d like to ask for your help with."

...

(The mountain road to visit relatives had eighty-one twists and turns. I almost got morning sickness from it.)
