After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World
Chapter 2101: Old Roof
"Similar to us?"
The orc looked at them with a frank stare and nodded. She did not detect any sarcasm, and orcs generally aren’t capable of such a thing.
"What does that mean?" she asked again. "The humans inside the walls, are there similar ones?"
The orc shook his head. "No, not similar," he said, eyes on the couple. "Unique. And very strong."
"Have you seen anyone else like us after the first people?"
He shook his head. "All normal humans after. Many also said the same things. Repeating words. Very annoying."
It seemed like after the initial group, there was also a group of humans that further established the twisted ideology. "They are humans who used to live here."
Ah.
Perhaps those humans who had been displaced decided to make the orcs an enemy of the human race for revenge, and the latter was foolish enough to fall for it, creating a mixed race.
It was also a bit cruel. Wouldn’t those instigating humans have become victims, too? Or did they sacrifice their women to further their cause?
She could see it happening.
"Those annoying humans arrived here, also annoying."
"Oh?" she asked. "Which ones?"
It seemed like there was another group that arrived. Was it recent?
"Many orcs go missing."
Her inquiring attitude paused, and her expression immediately became more solemn.
Virion had mentioned that he was followed by a level 30 fighter before.
Roof did not say anything more about the missing orcs, likely because he didn’t know anything about it. It was just that the fact that an orc could connect the powerhouses’ arrival to missing orcs meant that the latter was super obvious.
Orcs weren’t known for their observation and inference skills, after all.
It seemed like there was more and more vested interest in this, and it was frankly getting a bit too troublesome.
That said, while the revenge of the original humans was not surprising, they were also bothered by the orc’s initial assessment of the ’not-really-people’ who started it all.
Althea and Garan’s eyebrows furrowed, having an inkling of the kind of people he was talking about. It made them feel uncomfortable.
Where were those pseudo-elves now?
...
Meanwhile, back in Quo Town, Virion was leisurely sitting in an al fresco dining area.
This was in sharp contrast to Plai and his entourage, stomping to his direction. "What did you do!?" he screamed.
"I simply stopped the war. Why?"
Virion had sent a letter to the town they were going to war with, threatening them that they’d become enemies with Warrior City if they dared to attack.
Only the Lord could wage war, and since Plai was not the Lord, it had to be the other side that would start it.
Even if they had the backing of a City—which hadn’t been confirmed yet—he had taken down the subtleties so even the backer had to take a step back and analyze whether this conflict was worth it.
If they still attacked despite the warning, at least it confirmed that there was more to this place than meets the eye. It would certainly reveal that another City had invested in Warrior City’s subsidiary, which was subject to a scandal.
It turned out that they really did back out. As for whether it was a true step back or not, time would tell.
Anyway, whichever way it was, this change angered Plai, leading to the current scene.
"How dare you make decisions for us? We’re going to die! The territory would be lost!" he screamed, and looked around.
"How dare I? We haven’t been here often, and you forget who your master is?"
"Subsidiary doesn’t mean you own our lives!" Plai righteously exclaimed. He then looked at the passersby, many of whom had already stopped when Plai started raising his voice.
"Look! This guest has been trying to destroy our home!"
"Everyone understands the importance of this war, but this person stops it! He’s a spy! Kick him out!"
Virion rolled his eyes. "Is the Lord really sick? Show me the Lord first, maybe I’ll believe you," he said. "He’s a close friend of mine. I might know how to help him.
"No? Why do I feel like you’re lying? You just want the token, right?"
Some of the passersby looked at Plai with suspicion, while some of the guards couldn’t help but look pensive. Obviously, not everyone was privy to the goings on under the surface.
Seeing the doubts made Plai fly into rage. "YOU!!"
His level wasn’t that high, but it seemed like he had grown arrogant after his plans had succeeded for so long. There could also be the issue of the backing, though what would happen remained to be seen.
"Spreading Lies!" He looked at his guards. "GET HIM!"
Many of the guards next to Plai were half-orcs—and they could use elements!
Hmn, no wonder he was so confident. Elementalists, after the elves were gone, were considered the peak of power among all races. Obtaining it despite the quality was already perceived as a step up.
One elementalist half-orc threw rocks, showering him with pebbles. Another created winds designed to imbalance him, and others threw fireballs. Compared to the elementalist half-orc in Tarron village, they seemed much more proficient in their skills.
It seemed like all the successful elementalist half-orcs—nine of them so far—were hidden forces that followed Plai.
Virion was somewhat relieved to know that the Lord here—a half-orc he trusted and an old friend of his—did not seem to have betrayed them. After all, this would also reflect on his own decision-making.
The orcs and half-orcs that went against Virion ranged from level 15 to level 25, and they surrounded him without care for collateral damage.
Further, the human fighters who had been following him around—two mid-level-30s—also appeared at the side, making him curse.
Not to mention, many orcs nearby also jumped in! Whether it was for loyalty to the town or simply because they were war-freaks who could jump into a fight didn’t matter! It was annoying as heck!
It was fortunate that he was within the town’s level limit; otherwise, a single flick of a finger could’ve gotten him punished. Virion was very strong, and his ability tended to be overwhelmingly destructive.
However, if he were mobbed like this, he couldn’t do much. It wasn’t like he could shoot lasers continuously. He also had cool downs. Further, many of these orcs were not evil, so he had to be careful in using his most lethal shots—and most of his skills were highly destructive.
Other than dealing with Plai’s direct subordinates, there were times when he could only defend using his own skin and his equipment.
Considering many of the enemies were elementalists—even if they were not very strong—then the penetrative effect of their attacks reduced his equipment durability very quickly.
Combined with the barrage from allies, if he stood still for too long, then even his superior equipment could become vulnerable eventually.
He had no choice this time.
In the end, he ran away for a bit, not to escape, but to hide, even for just a few minutes. After some struggle, he managed to find a cover, and he took out an aether letter, sending a message to the couple.
