Chapter 1596: Chapter 1595: Discovery of the Ledgers

Chapter 1595 Discovery of the Account Book

Yes, Mengyu felt that the old lady was acting strange.

It wasn’t just because the Spiritual Jade Pendant appeared in her room. Moreover, she noticed that this old lady held a subtle resentment towards Old Sir Ou.

Although she hid it well, and aside from the words she just said when being suspected, she usually appeared very gentle and virtuous.

But if she hated Old Sir Ou, why would she kill Ou Xue? Killing Ou Xue would only help Old Sir Ou, wouldn’t it?

No, that’s not right!

Mengyu suddenly became alert: If she killed Ou Xue, from the perspective of who benefits the most and could be most suspected, Old Sir Ou would be the prime suspect.

Is she trying to frame Old Sir Ou?

That’s not impossible either.

Also, Uncle Fu’s attitude was problematic when he previously brought out Ou Xue’s account book in front of Old Sir Ou. Hmm, these two people need to be investigated thoroughly.

Previously, although Mengyu had visited the Ou family, she was only there to observe people and hadn’t conducted a search, especially since back then it wasn’t sure whether the Ou family had any issues.

Moreover, at that time, her main purpose was to protect Ou Pengfei, leaving no time for a thorough inspection.

But now, feeling the oddity with the old lady and Uncle Fu, she naturally needed to conduct a careful and thorough investigation.

In the next moment, Mengyu’s Divine Sense scanned the old lady’s room, inspecting every corner meticulously.

Though the old lady and the old master lived in the same small building, from the room arrangement, it was clear they had been living separately for a long time.

After understanding the system of the Ou family, Mengyu realized it’s not easy to be a woman in the Ou family. However, it was obvious that Old Sir Ou treated the old lady fairly well, as the old lady’s room was exquisitely arranged and used very high-end materials.

Mengyu’s Divine Sense quickly finished searching the entire room, but the Spiritual Jade Pendant that was in the box last time was gone!

Could there be a basement?

The old lady’s room did not visually reveal any passageways. But Mengyu had Divine Sense, and when she directed it downwards, she indeed discovered a basement. The room also became less damp with the existence of the basement.

The entrance to the basement was very hidden, located under the bed!

By extending through the tunnel, it reached the basement. Inside, there were some boxes, surprisingly quite dry, which contained some antique jewelry.

Mengyu immediately sensed something was off: The basement shouldn’t be dry!

Could it be that there is another basement beneath this one?

Her Divine Sense went further down, and indeed, there was another basement underneath.

Moreover, the basement below had a passageway.

The passage led to another room, and when Mengyu followed it with her Divine Sense, she discovered that the passage actually led to the servant quarters in the front yard—a small courtyard separated by cloister.

It was obvious that only high-level servants could live there.

That room also had a basement, and in that basement, Mengyu found some account books.

No doubt about it, this is where the housekeeper lived.

No, even a housekeeper shouldn’t bring account books back to their room; they should be locked in the account room, not placed in a basement where the housekeeper lived.

Mengyu, using her Divine Sense to examine those account books clearly, discovered they were Jinhui Group’s account books.

Mengyu’s heart skipped a beat: Jinhui Group, isn’t that the rival of the Ou Group? But it is said that no one knows who is the real owner behind Jinhui Group.

Ever since it was established over twenty years ago and gained a foothold in the market, it has been growing with a strong development momentum, seemingly always able to anticipate Ou Group’s moves, capturing opportunities a step ahead, seizing the Ou Group’s chances.
