Bai Zhi awkwardly scratched her cheek. She hadn’t expected Sang Mo to overhear her conversation with Yue Junxiao. She muttered under her breath, "It would be nice if you were as easy to comfort as he is."

Sang Mo feigned ignorance, leaning in closer. "What did you say?" he asked.

Startled by his familiar face suddenly looming before her, Bai Zhi gasped and held her breath.

Seeing her face turning red, Sang Mo frowned and flicked her on the forehead. "Breathe," he said.

Bai Zhi finally let out her breath. "Why’d you get so close all of a sudden? You startled me."

Sang Mo straightened up, crossing his arms and looking down at her. "If you weren’t bad-mouthing me, why would you be so jumpy?"

At his words, Bai Zhi’s eyes widened, and she blinked innocently. "Did I say something? I don’t think so."

Sang Mo scoffed. "Don’t change the subject. How are you planning to comfort me? Skip the sweet talk. I want something a little more tangible."

Her clear eyes fixed on the faint smile playing on his lips. The slight upward curve of his mouth looked so very kissable.

So much so that Bai Zhi couldn’t help herself. She rose onto her tiptoes and planted a kiss on his full, rosy lips.

POP.

It was surprisingly loud, and the sound of it made them both freeze.

When Bai Zhi processed what she had just done, heat crept into her cheeks. She couldn’t believe she’d gotten so lost in his smile that she’d impulsively done exactly what she was thinking. She was about to beat a retreat, but in the next second, she saw Sang Mo’s eyes narrow slightly.

With a swift motion, Sang Mo’s long arm shot out and pulled the guilty, would-be escapee back into his arms. He spun her around, pinning her against the wall, and lowered his head to kiss her.

His handsome face, magnified, filled her vision. It felt as if he were trying to crush her into his body, to devour her whole. Gradually, she closed her eyes and surrendered herself to him.

The others’ voices echoed from outside, but behind the wall where they hid, the sounds of their own kissing seemed particularly loud.

After who knows how long, Sang Mo finally let her go. His voice was husky as he said, "I’m very satisfied with this method of ’comfort’."

Bai Zhi: "..."

’I was just tempted by his handsome face! I couldn’t help myself!’

But she certainly couldn’t say that out loud.

Bai Zhi’s breathing was heavy from the prolonged kiss, and her lips stung. The moment she licked them, she hissed in a sharp breath from the soreness.

Sang Mo’s breathing had been steady, but at the sight of her licking her lips, his dark eyes grew deeper. He swept Bai Zhi into his arms.

Caught off guard as she was lifted off her feet, Bai Zhi instinctively wrapped her legs around Sang Mo’s waist and her arms around his neck. A flicker of panic crossed her flushed face.

Sang Mo had just started carrying her toward the room when he suddenly heard Hu Yan come out with food and ask, "Where is our Mistress?"

With their bodies pressed so close, Bai Zhi had sensed Sang Mo’s arousal the moment he’d lifted her. Hu Yan’s question now gave her the perfect out.

Bai Zhi quickly gave Sang Mo a little push and said innocently, "I’m hungry."

Sang Mo’s lips tightened, his expression one of clear, unsatisfied desire. But then he looked at Bai Zhi’s innocent, pale little face, and from outside, he could hear Yue Junxiao saying he’d just spoken to their Mistress and was going to look for Bai Zhi.

They were at a stalemate for a moment, but Sang Mo finally sighed and set her down.

It wasn’t that he was afraid of Yue Junxiao and the others finding them. He’d do whatever he wanted right in front of them, never mind getting caught in private. It was just...

He didn’t know why, but looking into her eyes... he just suddenly softened.

The instant she was put down, Bai Zhi bolted, leaving Sang Mo in the dark room to stare after her retreating figure. Only after she had vanished around the corner did he shove his hands into his pockets and leisurely stroll out.

As Sang Mo emerged, he happened to hear Yue Junxiao ask, "Mistress, where did you go? I was just about to look for you."

Bai Zhi just smiled. "Nowhere far, just in the next room."

Just then, Hu Yan’s gaze fell upon Bai Zhi’s unusually red lips and the flush that had yet to fade from her cheeks. His eyes then shifted to Sang Mo, who was approaching a few steps behind her.

Sang Mo met his gaze without flinching. As their eyes locked, Sang Mo arched an eyebrow, a clear hint of provocation in the gesture.

Lang Qiu looked over as well, seeming to vaguely guess what had happened. He glanced thoughtfully from Hu Yan to Sang Mo, his eyes finally landing on Bai Zhi.

Noticing Hu Yan’s eyes on her lips, Bai Zhi couldn’t help but press them together in a futile attempt to hide them, a gesture that only made them more conspicuous.
