Currently, only Godfrey Thatcher and another injured Speed Element Superpower User had made it to the City D Base.

After entering the base, Godfrey immediately began looking for Nina Jacobs. Fortunately, he ran into Timothy Renner, the captain of the city gate guards. Timothy and his men could tell that Godfrey and his companion had likely run into some trouble. However, having not yet seen Nina, Godfrey refused to disclose exactly what had happened.

It wasn’t until he saw Wayne Warner just now that he finally blurted everything out in a panic.

As it turned out, they had run into a zombie horde on their way to the City D Base. During the fight, a few passersby stepped in to help them take down some of the zombies. Afterward, those people invited them to visit the Falken Base as guests. However, Godfrey’s group politely declined, citing that they were pressed for time.

Unexpectedly, those people turned hostile and wouldn’t let it go, even cursing them for being ungrateful. Seeing that they were about to get physical, Holly Morgan outright killed two of their men.

"We thought we had scared them off, but when we woke up in our cars the next day, we found ourselves surrounded..." Godfrey said.

"Were they people from the Falken Base?" Daniel Hale asked after hearing the story.

Godfrey nodded. "Yes. Using our unprovoked killing as an excuse, they demanded we go to the Falken Base with them.

"Mr. Walter saw that the situation was turning south, so he told me to take Jarod Crawford, who was injured, and come to the City D Base first to alert Nina.

"There were simply too many of them, and we only had about a dozen people..." Godfrey then asked, his face etched with anxiety, "Is Nina not here? If it were her, she’d definitely have a way out of this."

"Nina... she hasn’t returned yet," Daniel replied, averting his slightly evasive gaze. It had been sixteen days, and Nina was still in the middle of her advancement. This was the only excuse they could use.

"How could that be..." Godfrey’s face paled a few shades more. With Nina absent, what were they supposed to do?

"If it’s the Falken Base, they probably won’t do anything too extreme after taking them back. The most likely scenario is imprisonment," Chase Gallagher interjected after listening. Over the past few days, they had heard a thing or two themselves.

"Why?" Godfrey asked. He had never understood why those people were so dead-set on making them go to the Falken Base.

"Are there Intermediate Superpower Users among your group?" Chase ventured a guess. "The Falken Base has been recruiting Intermediate Superpower Users on a massive scale. Perhaps someone among you caught their eye." Previously, the neighboring Falken Base had even tried poaching from the City D Base.

Godfrey was taken aback. "Intermediate Superpower Users... Holly is indeed one, and on our way here, Reginald also advanced to the Intermediate level."

"Then it’s likely just as Chase said." Daniel felt that Chase’s reasoning was sound. "If you were people from the City D Base, they wouldn’t dare do anything to you. But if they found out you were from out of town, it wouldn’t be impossible for them to take coercive measures."

The last time around, the Falken Base was only evaluated as a Level One Base. Rumor had it that they had been trying to cultivate Intermediate Superpower Users ever since. Yet, until the extreme cold descended, not a single person in their entire base had advanced to the Intermediate level.

As a result, Kael Dolan simply came to the City D Base to poach people under the guise of recruitment. However, he was swiftly shut down by Myra Lawson. The City D Base had already severed ties with the Falken Base.

"So, they won’t harm everyone for the time being?" Godfrey had grasped the gist of the situation. Still, he couldn’t help but worry. If only Nina were here.

"How about this? It’s getting late today," Daniel decided. "I’ll report this to the base first. If we can leverage the base’s power to demand their return, there shouldn’t be any major issues."

After all, these were Nina’s friends who had traveled all the way from Keldorn to the City D Base. Since Nina couldn’t show herself right now, they had to make decisions on her behalf.

"Alright. I’ll have to trouble you all then." Godfrey was slightly surprised inwardly.

Previously, Nina had told them that she held no power or position in the City D Base and was just an ordinary survivor. But ever since meeting Timothy, he had felt that Nina was definitely not simple. It seemed like everyone in the City D Base knew her. And now, they could directly mobilize the base’s forces...

Daniel was a man of his word. The City D Base also acted swiftly, dispatching personnel to the Falken Base the very next day. They demanded the release of the captives directly in the name of the City D Base.

Myra Lawson entrusted this matter to Chester Pearson. Since it concerned Nina, Chase also brought along a few members of Stella. Although Leo Hale wanted nothing more than to join the spectacle, he had to stay behind and guard Nina.

"It’s been eighteen days..." Leo looked at Nina, who lay on the bed with steady breathing.

Vera Coleman washed her body every day. None of them had expected a single advancement to take this long.

"Chase and the others set off two days ago. I wonder how things are going now," Vera complained as she wiped down Nina’s nightstand. "The people at the Falken Base are ridiculous. Snatching what they don’t have, and now they’re even snatching people."

She could tell that Godfrey treated her daughter, Nina, as their pillar of support. She was genuinely curious about what her daughter had done in Keldorn to make these people travel all this way to find her.

"Snatching who?"

A voice suddenly sounded in the room, causing Leo’s eyes to widen. Nina had actually woken up! At that moment, Wayne walked in from outside the door.

Simultaneously, they all felt a surge of energy fluctuation. The energy seemed to be radiating from Nina’s body.

Vera looked at her with a pleasantly surprised expression. "It looks like your advancement was successful. Congratulations on becoming an Advanced Superpower User."

"Mhm. I’m hungry," Nina said, sitting up and rubbing her stomach. She hadn’t felt much during the advancement, but now that she sat up, it felt as though all her physical strength had been drained.

"Right, right, right. Have some of these pastries to hold you over. I’ll go downstairs and prepare a meal right away," Vera said. Over the past few days, she had sent the cook, Walsh, next door to Stella to prepare meals. This was to prevent him from discovering that Nina was in the house.

"You’re finally awake! Do you know how many days you’ve been asleep?" Leo squatted in front of Nina, practically buzzing with excitement.

Nina shook her head. She genuinely had no idea how many days it had been.

"Eighteen days! You took eighteen days!"

Hearing Leo’s words, Nina was somewhat surprised. Did someone really need eighteen days to advance? And that someone happened to be her.

"You guys just mentioned someone snatched people. Who got snatched?" Nina asked, having only been mildly shocked for a brief moment.

Over half an hour later, Nina had finished eating while listening to Leo recount everything that had happened over the past few days.

"I’ll set off for the Falken Base in a bit," Nina said without hesitation.

Wayne nodded, as if he had been waiting precisely for her to say that.

"Chester and the others have already gone. They might even be on their way back right now," Vera said as she held the twins, who had also just woken up. Perhaps there was no need for Nina to go anymore?

"They won’t let people go that easily," Nina said with absolute certainty.

In her past life, the City D Base and the Falken Base had been in constant conflict, even reaching the point of resorting to armed force. This time, even with Chester going there in the name of the base, she feared it would be to no avail.

"How about I call your Uncle Hale back so we can discuss it some more?" Vera asked.

"I’ll give the base a heads-up," Nina replied.

"What are you planning to do?" Leo’s eyes were filled with excitement.

Nina took a bite of her stuffed tofu and replied, "If they don’t listen, I’ll beat them until they submit."

Dealing with scoundrels required using even more heavy-handed methods.
