After I Died, the Scumbag Went Mad
Chapter 266 - 265: Sebastian Lancaster Slept with Another Woman?
Chapter 266: Chapter 265: Sebastian Lancaster Slept with Another Woman?
"Test Subject Number 77, you seem quite dissatisfied with the system here." ’He really is a petty, vindictive man.’
I stared coldly at the doctor, saying nothing. In this place, I didn’t even deserve a name.
"You should see the system I’ve established." The doctor raised his hand, pointing to the pod beside me as a staff member released the test subject from within.
She was a very beautiful woman.
The woman, like a hollow, walking corpse, approached the doctor.
"Kneel," the doctor commanded in a low voice, as if searching for his sense of importance in this place.
The test subject knelt at his feet without any hesitation.
He smirked at me, as if showing off. It was also a warning that I had better be just as obedient, like a dog...
"You’re disgusting." I laughed. "Someone like you must be at the very bottom of society, right? Since you can’t get any satisfaction out there, you come to the lab to feel important. You know what that makes you? It makes you... trash."
My taunt infuriated him. With a cold expression and a twisted smile, he pressed a button on the outside of my pod. "I’ll make you understand that in here, *I* am the master."
Suddenly, cold water began to pour down from the ceiling in a deluge.
Then, he blasted the pod with cold air.
My whole body trembled as I pounded furiously against the walls, but it was useless.
A staff member grew nervous. "Dr. Carter, she’s... she’s the test subject the higher-ups ordered us to handle with special care. If something happens to her, we won’t be able to answer for it..."
My body temperature dropped in an instant. My body stiffened, and I collapsed to the floor. Then, a burning sensation started to spread across my skin.
As hypothermia set in, the sensation of cold disappeared, replaced by a scorching heat that felt like I was being consumed by fire.
That devil was watching from outside, smiling as he waited for me to beg for mercy.
"Keep an eye on her heat signature," Dr. Carter ordered in a low voice. "As long as she doesn’t die, let her freeze. We’ll turn off the cold air when... she learns how to beg."
"Asher..." My consciousness was fading as I neared death, my mind replaying the scene I longed to see most.
Asher...
I can’t die.
’I can’t leave him behind again. I can’t!’
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! Suddenly, the alarm blared shrilly. My heart rate had gone haywire.
The heart rate monitor flatlined.
The staff outside panicked, frantically jamming the control panel as they rushed to open the pod door.
Dr. Carter was stunned, apparently not expecting me to be so fragile. "Get the door open! CPR, restore her heartbeat, sodium bicarbonate! Now!"
The alarm was still shrieking as Dr. Carter rushed in, pushed the staff member aside, and started performing CPR on me himself.
His panic put me at ease. ’It seems,’ I thought, ’the truth serum hasn’t made me worthless after all.’
He didn’t dare let me die.
"AHH!" A sudden scream echoed inside the pod. I had flipped over, pinning the doctor underneath me. My fingers hooked into his eyeballs as I slowly applied pressure.
He screamed and struggled in agony as blood began to trickle from his eyes.
I shot a warning look at the staff who had rushed in.
"Tell the person in charge of this lab... I want to see them!" My voice was low. I needed to see Nathan Lawson. ’I’m guessing she’s the one running this lab.’
The doctor I had pinned down still wanted to struggle, but he didn’t dare provoke me.
"If you so much as twitch, I’ll gouge out your eyes," I threatened in a low voice. "You know perfectly well the organization won’t kill a priceless test subject like me over a single doctor." I looked at the test subject still kneeling outside. "You. Get up!"
She didn’t seem to hear me at all.
The doctor laughed, a crazed look in his eyes. "They only listen to me."
"Doctor, once your eyes are ruined, will you have any value left to this lab?" I asked with a smile, my fingers pressing harder.
Fear flickered in his eyes. The pain was making him convulse.
"Open all the pod doors!" I warned, glaring at the staff member.
She looked terrified, but seeing that I had the doctor, she had no choice but to open all the pods.
The other few test subjects slowly walked out.
The one who had been kneeling on the floor also stood up.
"You said they only listen to you?" I asked.
The doctor was suddenly terrified.
I shoved him away from me, pushing him toward the other test subjects. "It takes five minutes for the lab’s mercenaries to get through the sterilization corridor."
The male test subject at the front glanced at me, then raised his hand and clamped it around the doctor’s neck.
With just a slight squeeze, the doctor’s neck snapped. He stopped breathing.
And the man who did it looked as if he’d just crushed an ant, his expression completely unfazed.
After the kill, his gaze remained locked on me. It was the look of a powerful, primal beast searching for a mate.
There’s an innate genetic attraction between test subjects.
They instinctively select for superior genes to produce stronger offspring—evolution, in its most basic sense.
I couldn’t imagine what kind of beings would be born if fully genetically modified humans could produce healthy offspring.
"I suggest you stay away from me." I backed away warily, but the three male test subjects all seemed drawn to my genes.
Their gazes were scorching, as if they wanted to devour me whole.
I continued to back away slowly, buying time.
Just as the three of them cornered me, the containment door slid open. Mercenaries in hazmat suits stormed in and dragged the test subjects back to their pods.
Following them was Nathan Lawson, dressed in a suit.
Nathan Lawson glanced at the doctor’s body on the floor and narrowed her eyes. "Silvia Lynch, I underestimated you."
I watched her warily and gave a cold laugh. "He was just a doctor... not as valuable as I am, right?"
Nathan Lawson shot me a look, then smiled. "The higher-ups only said not to let you die. They never said we couldn’t torture you."
"If you want to punish me, I can just die at any moment. If I want to die... none of you can stop me." I threatened her with my own life.
Nathan Lawson’s eyes darkened. ’Just as I thought,’ I realized. ’She’s backing down.’
"Heh... If the President of the Stellaris Group hadn’t agreed to pour ten billion into rebirth and genetic research, and specifically ’adopted’ you as a test subject... did you really think you’d still be alive?" Nathan Lawson said through gritted teeth. "Do you really think... that just because you beat the polygraph and resisted the truth serum, you’re Cecilia Caldwell? The mercenaries out there can do all that with enough resistance training."
’I was a little surprised. The mysterious President of the Stellaris Group had actually taken an interest in a test subject like me... Heh, what a pleasant surprise. Now, as long as the President of the Stellaris Group makes contact with the organization’s highest leader, I’ll be able to find a way to get the answers I want from him.’
"You really don’t want me to be a reincarnated soul," I said to Nathan Lawson with a smile. "What are you so afraid of? That even if souls can be reborn... the person you care about could be resurrected and still not love you? It’s so pitiful to be unloved."
I was deliberately provoking her.
"Shut up!" My words had clearly gotten to her. "Silvia Lynch, you’re even more pathetic than I am... Do you really think the attraction from a genetically enhanced test subject is love? Let me tell you... it’s just the instinct of natural selection! Sebastian Lancaster, the three test subjects in this lab—they’re all just drawn to your genes. It’s instinct! Do you actually believe Sebastian Lancaster loves you? The moment someone with more superior genes appears... he’ll abandon you without a second thought and slowly fall for someone else."
Nathan Lawson looked at me and laughed again. "Did you think the organization couldn’t see through that little act you and Sebastian Lancaster put on? You came with me on purpose, but unfortunately for you, you’re not leaving... As for Sebastian... he’s already been captivated by the ’Cecilia Caldwell’ with more superior genes. He didn’t even show up for today’s polygraph test. As the heir to the Lancaster Group, even after selling his shares to Astraeus, he’s still qualified to participate, as long as he’s willing to pay enough money..."
"But he didn’t come, Silvia Lynch. He doesn’t want you anymore."
Nathan Lawson laughed manically, mocking me for being abandoned by Asher.
"Oh, right... I forgot to tell you. Sebastian Lancaster and the Cecilia Caldwell I gave him slept together last night. Thanks to their mutual genetic attraction, he desires ’Cecilia Caldwell.’ The two of them will be together forever, while you... you are destined to be forgotten."
"Julian Fletcher, on the other hand... spent tens of millions on you, just to ease your suffering a little."
