After Gender Transformation, I Was Adjusted by the System into the Demon Queen’s Strongest Maid
Chapter 154 : Modify It
A sudden sound of fabric cutting through the air came from above Camilla’s head.
She abruptly looked up.
In her line of sight, a silver-haired, red-eyed figure was lightly landing on the scorched ground less than three meters away from her.
The Succubus Grand Duke widened her eyes.
“Why are you here?”
She didn’t hold back that shout, and the surrounding little Succubi and Minotaur laborers who had been working hard all raised their heads in unison. Their shovels and pickaxes froze midair, making the scene extremely awkward for a moment.
Lilia patted the dust off the hem of her outfit and straightened her back with confidence.
“Weren’t you with Her Majesty… Where’s Her Majesty?”
Camilla glanced up at the sky. Aside from the still-churning dark clouds, there wasn’t even a single feather in sight.
Lilia crossed her arms and struck the pose of an imperial inspector.
“Her Majesty is up there enjoying the view. She thinks it’s too dusty down here and doesn’t want to come down.”
She pointed at the chaotic construction site beneath their feet, as well as the laborers who were filling the pit with scorched soil.
“By the way, she sent me to inspect and see who’s so diligent—barely finished blowing it up, and already starting illegal construction.”
Camilla was so irritated by the words “illegal construction” that she laughed.
She, a dignified Succubus Grand Duke, one of the Four Great Demon Generals of the Demon Realm, had mobilized resources overnight from her territory and personally come to direct the filling work just to collect this little maid’s corpse—
And now she was being accused of illegal construction?
“I saw that your body was completely gone and was worried your soul would have nowhere to attach after death! That’s why I hurried to fill this place and build you a tomb!”
Seeing Camilla’s conflicted expression—wanting to be angry yet holding it in—Lilia felt a slight pang in the thing called “conscience.”
But only slightly.
After all, she was now the supervisor holding imperial authority.
“I appreciate the thought.”
Lilia kept a straight face and raised her hand to stop a gargoyle in the distance that was about to dump soil into the pit.
“But this pit can’t be filled.”
Camilla froze. “What do you mean?”
“Her Majesty’s orders.”
Lilia pointed at the enormous, almost exaggerated vitrified basin.
“Her Majesty said this explosion was quite artistic. Filling it would be a waste. We’re keeping it and converting this pit into an Arena.”
Camilla’s expression instantly froze.
She looked at the massive crater hundreds of meters wide, then at the mountain of fill materials nearby, and finally back at Lilia.
“…Huh? Not filling it? Then how are we supposed to build it?”
“Exactly.”
Lilia spoke nonsense with a straight face.
“Master said we must preserve the crater in its original form.”
Camilla felt her head buzzing.
So all that filling and leveling she had done just now—completely wasted?
And then—
“Wait.”
Camilla suddenly seemed to recall something, her expression turning strange.
She instinctively shifted her body, trying to block a patch of ground not far behind her.
But Lilia had already seen it.
There stood a black stone monument over three meters tall.
It was entirely polished from top-grade obsidian, emitting a cold, hard sheen under the sunlight, with a ring of expensive Magic Crystals embedded around it—clearly not cheap.
Most importantly, the words engraved on it were visible even from afar—
【Tomb of Lilia】
Below it were several lines of densely packed small text, likely praising her heroic sacrifice.
Lilia’s mouth twitched violently.
Good grief.
She was standing here, breathing and alive—and over there, her tombstone was already set up?
And judging by its scale, anyone would think some founding hero was buried there.
“Um…”
Following Lilia’s gaze, Camilla looked over and, for once, seemed a bit guilty, her eyes shifting uneasily.
“That was… uh… just finished carving.”
Lilia said nothing, just stared fixedly at the monument.
So this was what they meant by “as if still present in voice and appearance”?
But this feeling… why was it so strange?
“Take… it… down.”
Lilia squeezed the words out through clenched teeth.
Too inauspicious.
“Take it down?”
The moment Camilla heard this, her guilt instantly vanished, replaced by the pain of seeing wasted budget.
“Do you know how expensive that stone is?”
She pointed at the monument, heart aching.
Lilia: “…”
Why was this Succubus more of a miser than her?
“But we can’t just leave something like this here to disgust people, right?”
Lilia pointed at her own nose.
“I’m still alive! Alive and kicking! You set up a tombstone for me—are you trying to borrow some of my lifespan because mine’s too long?”
Camilla was in the wrong, but still muttered softly.
“Well, who told you to cause such a huge commotion back then… That level of Forbidden Spell—even the Headless Giant was obliterated. Who would’ve thought you’d come back completely intact…”
Even so, the monument had become a hot potato.
Leave it? The person it belonged to was still alive—it felt ominous.
Remove it? Tens of thousands of gold coins wasted—painful.
The two stared at each other, deadlocked.
Suddenly, a spark of inspiration flashed in Lilia’s mind.
She recalled the “Funeral of White Roses” concept she had proposed to Hera earlier.
Since the entire Arena was meant to commemorate that slaughter, then this monument… wasn’t entirely useless.
Lilia stroked her chin and circled the massive obsidian monument twice.
“Actually… we don’t necessarily have to remove it.”
Camilla’s eyes lit up. “Not remove it?”
“Mm, not remove it.”
Lilia extended her finger and traced over the engraved words.
“Smooth out these characters and re-engrave them.”
“Re-engrave?” Camilla looked at her warily. “Engrave what?”
A meaningful smile curved at Lilia’s lips—the kind capitalists had when seeing free labor.
“Engrave ‘White Rose Arena.’”
“Then add a line below: ‘This place commemorates that meteor that cleansed all sin.’”
“Turn this monument into the Arena’s facade—or its opening memorial.”
The more Lilia spoke, the more feasible it sounded.
“Think about it—this huge monument at the entrance, with a sea of white roses beside it and a bottomless vitrified crater behind.”
“That kind of visual impact, that kind of prestige—wouldn’t it instantly skyrocket?”
“And…”
Lilia leaned closer to Camilla, lowering her voice with a hint of temptation.
“This monument was built by you. Every visitor who comes here will see your work first. It’s also a way to leave your name behind, isn’t it?”
Camilla froze.
She blinked a couple of times, as if processing this twisted logic.
Turning a tombstone into a signboard?
That was… incredibly unethical.
But thinking about it carefully, it actually felt kind of impressive?
“Will that work?”
Camilla hesitated.
“Will Her Majesty agree?”
Lilia puffed out her chest, borrowing authority like a fox exploiting a tiger’s might.
“Her Majesty put me fully in charge of this. If I say it works, it works.”
“Besides, you don’t want all your effort from last night to go to waste, do you?”
Camilla looked at the priceless stone, then at Lilia’s confident face, and finally gritted her teeth.
“Fine!”
