Chapter 249: Chapter 249: The Truth

Ophelia Warren gripped her phone, her knuckles turning white from the force.

She never expected Ian Prescott to pull a move like this without any warning.

The story of her growing up in an orphanage was widespread online. Combined with the fact that her eyes and brows bore a slight resemblance to Sienna Everett’s—and thus, a slight resemblance to the Prescott matriarch—she had thought this would attract the attention of The Prescotts, leading the Prescott Family to seek her out and claim her as their own.

In fact, Ian Prescott had come to see her. It was that day in the coffee shop. At first, she played hard to get, suggesting she might not be the Prescott’s long-lost daughter. She did this so Ian wouldn’t think she was just a social climber trying to use the Prescott Family for their money.

In her scenario, after their meeting at the coffee shop, Ian Prescott would contact her again for a DNA test.

Uncle Dunn had collaborated with the Prescott Family for many years. He was a highly skilled and experienced doctor. The Prescotts had always entrusted him with the DNA tests in their search for their lost daughter. As long as Uncle Dunn slightly altered her DNA test with the Prescott Family to show a biological connection, she could smoothly become the long-lost daughter they were looking for. And Sienna Everett would have nothing more to do with the Prescott Family ever again.

But she never, ever imagined Ian Prescott would secretly pull a stunt like this today.

On the other end of the line, Uncle Dunn was seething. "The whole plan has been ruined!"

The previous two times Sienna Everett had a DNA test with the Prescott Family, Javier Prescott had brought him along each time, letting him—a doctor who had worked with the family for years—conduct the test. Both times, he had altered the reports to show that Sienna Everett had no biological relationship with the Prescott Family.

The fact that the Prescott’s youngest daughter went missing as a child was, of course, related to him.

And he absolutely did not want Sienna Everett to be reunited with the Prescott Family.

But...

Uncle Dunn paced back and forth in a rage, then suddenly narrowed his eyes. "Ophelia, the reason Ian Prescott did this is that he doesn’t trust you. He must still be secretly investigating your identity. You and I need to reduce contact for a while. We can’t let the Prescott Family trace this back to me."

"Okay, I understand, Uncle Dunn."

After hanging up, Ophelia Warren looked up at the blinding sun in the sky.

She didn’t look away until her eyes stung and tears welled up from the intense light.

’Sienna Everett...’

’This is the last time. I’ll make sure she doesn’t get off so easily next time...’

...

The hospital. In the patient room.

With the old gentleman and Mr. and Mrs. Sterling away, Sienna Everett kept watch by Julian Forrester’s bedside.

When Keith Sterling walked into the room, he saw the untouched food on the table and frowned deeply. "Sierra, you have to eat something!"

Sienna Everett tucked Julian Forrester in and replied casually, "I’ll eat in a bit."

Keith Sterling didn’t believe her for a second. He walked right over and practically forced Sienna Everett into a chair at the small table. "No, you have to eat now. I’m going to watch you eat!"

This was a meal the old gentleman had specifically asked the chefs at Veridian Gardens to prepare with all of Sienna Everett’s favorite dishes.

But Sienna Everett had no appetite. She pinched the bridge of her nose. "I’m not hungry right now. I’ll eat later."

Keith Sterling looked her over and put on a tearful face. "Don’t wait! I feel like you’ve lost a ton of weight in just three days! When my brother wakes up and sees you this thin, sees you haven’t been taking care of yourself, he’s going to break my legs!"

Sienna Everett: "..."

Keith Sterling continued his pitiful act. "Sierra, please! Do it so my brother doesn’t beat me! Do it so my legs don’t get broken! You have to eat more!"

Sienna Everett: "..."

’It’s as if he’s on death’s door just because I haven’t taken a bite of food.’

"Alright, alright, I’ll eat. I’ll eat right now, okay?" Sienna Everett said, exasperated.

"That’s great!" Keith Sterling immediately and eagerly handed her the chopsticks. "Eat up! My brother would be heartbroken if he saw you’d lost weight!"

Sienna Everett: "..."

While Sienna Everett ate, Keith Sterling went over to the hospital bed to watch over his brother.

’Strange. Ever since his finger twitched that one time, there haven’t been any other physical reactions. What’s going on?’

Keith Sterling sighed heavily. He wasn’t feeling very happy or much like a carefree playboy right now.

’Bro, please wake up soon.’

Although Sienna Everett didn’t have much of an appetite, she didn’t want to worry anyone, so she forced herself to eat a good amount of food, finishing more than half the meal.

Not long after she put down her chopsticks, she received a call from Stella Shaw.

Sienna Everett stepped aside to answer it. "Hello, Ophelia."

"Sienna," Stella Shaw’s voice was as efficient as ever. "There are a couple of movie scripts that have come in for you. One is about racing; the heroine is a race car driver. The other is about cultural artifact restoration, and the heroine is a Restorer. I’ve taken a close look, and both scripts are quite good. Do you want to come to the office and see if you’re interested in either?"

"Ophelia, I can’t come over right now."

The two movie scripts sounded great, but Sienna Everett refused without hesitation. "Ophelia, a family member is sick. I have to stay at the hospital and take care of him."

Stella Shaw was surprised to hear this. "What happened? Is it serious?"

"The situation is a bit complicated at the moment, so I need to stay at the hospital for now."

"Alright, then you should take care of the patient first." Stella Shaw was puzzled for a moment. ’Family?’

The "family" Sienna Everett mentioned definitely didn’t mean The Everetts.

’So who is this sick family member...’

Stella Shaw didn’t press for more details. She could hear that Sienna Everett’s mood was very low because of this family member’s illness, so now wasn’t the right time to pry. She just offered a few words of concern and comfort.

After hanging up, Sienna Everett put her phone down.

A short while later, Ian Prescott and Javier Prescott arrived.

Seeing Julian Forrester still lying unconscious in bed, Ian Prescott’s expression tightened. He turned to look at Sienna Everett. It had only been a few days, but she was noticeably thinner.

’It seems she’s really worried about Julian Forrester.’

Javier Prescott, being more meticulous, noticed how much weight Sienna Everett had lost the moment he entered the room. A hint of pity surfaced in his cool eyes.

’I didn’t realize it before, but now I see that Julian Forrester’s place in Sienna’s heart is much more important than anyone thought.’

"Sienna, don’t worry too much. No matter what, you have to take care of yourself," Ian Prescott advised, his voice full of heartfelt concern, almost as if he were family.

"I know." Sienna Everett nodded. Of course, she understood all that.

But sometimes, even when you understand the logic, you can’t control your emotions.

Ian Prescott glanced at Javier Prescott, then said to Sienna Everett, "We’ve figured out the situation with Ophelia Warren. She’s not related to our Prescott Family. She’s not our sister who was lost as a child."

"Not related to your family? How did you find out?" Sienna Everett asked curiously.

Keith Sterling, overhearing, looked over and guessed, "You did a DNA test?"

"Yes, we did." Ian Prescott cleared his throat and explained the process of tricking Ophelia Warren into taking a DNA test.

After listening, Keith Sterling’s mouth twitched. "Damn, that’s cunning."

Ian Prescott immediately raised his eyebrows and looked at Javier Prescott with a grin. "Big brother, little Keith here is calling you cunning. Did you hear that?"

After all, it was his big brother’s idea.

Javier Prescott shot Keith Sterling an icy glare.

Keith Sterling’s back went ramrod straight.

It couldn’t be helped. Javier Prescott was just too cold and taciturn. It was as if even his hair radiated a chilling aura. He was only ever not so cold when he was facing Sierra.

Keith Sterling immediately turned to Sienna Everett with a whimpering look. ’Sister-in-law, save me!’

Sienna Everett: "..."

"Alright, stop scaring him."

As soon as Sienna Everett said this, Javier Prescott stopped paying attention to Keith Sterling. He turned his full focus to Sienna, his expression softening. He even revealed a faint smile, looking as if he would do whatever she asked.

Seeing his big brother’s rare smile, Ian Prescott was no longer shocked or dumbfounded.

He even had the leisure to make a comment in his head.

’Not bad, not bad. That smile was much more natural this time.’

’It seems practicing his smile in the mirror fifty times a day is paying off.’

Sienna Everett sighed. "I really thought you’d be able to find your sister this time. I can’t believe it was the wrong person again."

Ian Prescott’s eyes flickered.

He always had this feeling, as if it were fated, that Sienna Everett was very likely his sister who had been lost since childhood.

He wondered if it was some kind of psychic connection between family, between siblings.

But they had done two DNA tests, and both showed that Sienna Everett had no biological relationship with the Prescott Family.

When the DNA tests were done, he was certain they had used Sienna Everett’s blood sample and that it hadn’t been swapped.

The doctor who performed the test was Dr. Dunn, who had worked with the Prescott Family for many years.

’The steps in the process... where did something go wrong...’
