Achieving Demon Godhood from Unlocking Talents

Chapter 428 - 87: I’ve Waited a Long Time for This Day

He gazed at the gradually shrinking high wall and said, "But, then again, Zhu Yue’s plan was actually pretty good."

"Those sacrifices within the city circle helped us draw a lot of attention. I bet the Superpower Bureau still thinks we were going for a fight to the death."

The voice blended into the river wind. Hearing this, Legos nodded lightly and looked at the woman in red leather who was giving instructions to her other subordinates.

Without her plan, he and the others might have been able to force their way out with their Superpower Level strength.

But the subordinates at the branch base, and all the equipment and devices, would have likely been left behind.

Compared to that kind of situation...

Although their losses today were not small, they had at least preserved the majority of their strength.

Once they reached the new base at Crow Valley, they would naturally have a way to make a comeback.

"What, had a change of heart?"

TAP, TAP.

To the sound of leather boots on the ground, Zhu Yue finished giving her orders and walked over to them.

She had naturally sensed the change in Legos’s mood. At least he was no longer as resistant and opposed as before.

"There’s nothing to change my heart about."

His tone was flat. Legos said, not wanting to admit it, "We all work for the Leader."

"As long as the Leader is satisfied, any outcome is fine."

"Heh." Zhu Yue chuckled, not exposing his pretense, and simply followed his gaze toward the river ahead.

It was a boundless wilderness.

Dust rose from the wastelands on both sides. Many Mutant Beast packs were migrating away, and even in the nearby waters, the number of Mutant Beasts had decreased, not interfering with the freighter’s passage.

"The Beast Tide has retreated, and that old ghost Tan Shanzhong has also agreed to the Leader’s terms."

Her tone was confident. Facing the river wind, Zhu Yue stood before them and said, "This freighter is passable. It’s equipped with plenty of weapon modules and fire systems. And just in case, the Leader specifically ordered Crow Valley to send people to support us."

"I just received an intelligence update. Tyler is leading the team personally, with Vic and one other assisting. An assault team of over two hundred will be advancing over land."

"In twenty kilometers at most, we can disembark on the riverbank and move through the wilderness to Crow Valley. By the time the Superpower Bureau realizes what’s happening, they won’t be able to catch us."

The methodical arrangements were convincing; even Legos couldn’t find any fault with them.

The gray-white freighter plowed through the water, completely leaving the Red Maple City Circle and the buffer zone, heading straight into the heart of the wilderness.

The occasional aquatic Mutant Beasts that appeared along the way were quickly scanned and detected by the freighter’s weapons systems, then eliminated with guns and torpedoes. And that’s not to mention the multiple Superpower Level individuals standing guard.

For a time.

As the river wind whistled endlessly, the members of the relocating Reconqueror Branch all began to relax, letting down their guard a little.

Quietly taking it all in, Legos also managed to let go of some of his stress. He then walked to the side of the deck and looked at the young man in blue who had been silent the entire time.

"That business with the Xu family... you were behind it, weren’t you?"

He asked suddenly, slightly curious.

Wu Yuntao glanced at him, his tone as cold as ever. "Who told you?"

"I guessed, of course."

A flash of wariness crossed his eyes. Legos shook his head and said, "I just didn’t expect you to take such a risk."

"The Leader just gave instructions over the comms. After you get to Crow Valley, you’re to be a Superpower Instructor, training all the new blood at the base... Seriously, you really know how to hide your strength."

His tone was unreadable, laced with a mix of complex emotions.

There are ranks among the Law Enforcement Officers in the base. He himself had earned the Leader’s deep trust by surviving countless life-or-death situations.

But how long had this guy been a Rebel? ’To think he’s already so highly valued.’

"Don’t worry."

As if seeing through his thoughts, Wu Yuntao took a cold step, turned, and walked away. "I’m not interested in your position."

TAP, TAP.

Legos was used to the ice-cold tone and just shook his head to himself.

A moment later, a message was relayed across the deck.

The reinforcements from Crow Valley had already reached the designated location and were on standby. Only a few more kilometers until they could complete the water-to-land transfer.

Legos nodded to himself, the last trace of worry in his heart completely vanishing.

’Looks like we’re really in the clear this time.’

Looking back toward the Red Maple City Circle, he raised a hand to lightly touch his chest, thinking of the severe injuries he had suffered before. ’You bastards from the Superpower Bureau.’

’Just you wait. The next time we fight, I’ll make you all...’

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Suddenly, cannons roared in unison, their blasts echoing across the sky.

Shell after shell flew from the wilderness on the shore, trailing flames as they rained down on the massive freighter.

"This..."

Legos froze for a second, then his face changed drastically as he realized what was happening.

"This is bad!"

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The shells were unstoppable, striking the freighter one after another all over.

Flashes of explosive light bloomed in succession, and the freighter’s deck shook as if the earth were quaking.

In the blink of an eye.

Metal plates exploded. The flying shrapnel acted like bullets, piercing through Rebel security personnel who grunted as several bloody holes appeared on their bodies.

Shipping containers toppled and fell one after another, crashing onto various parts of the deck. Everyone was stunned by the sudden attack.

"Fuck!!"

Legos’s expression was grim. With no time to help anyone, he quickly looked toward the riverbank to his right.

Camouflage netting blended in with the forest. A hundred-man unit of the City Guard Army was stationed there, with several artillery vehicles firing in a line, continuously bombarding them.

At the same time.

Amidst the roar of engines that sounded like the howling of Mutant Beasts, a cloud of smoke and dust rose from the wilderness to the left. It was the City Guard Army’s armored division, charging at high speed, machine guns spitting out a hail of bullets with a RAT-A-TAT-TAT.

"We’ve walked into a trap!"

A chill ran down his spine as Legos cursed in rage.

Inside the command cabin, Zhu Yue’s face was grim. She hastily gave orders for her subordinates to activate the weapon modules, fire at the riverbank, and do their best to intercept the shells to stop the freighter from sinking.

"Hold on!"

"Tyler and his team are only three kilometers away! They’ll be here to provide support soon!"

Her voice, forced to sound calm, echoed through the comms headsets, barely managing to restore some confidence in the Rebel members.

However...

SWOOSH! SWOOSH!

As the air hummed with shockwaves, Legos, Black Owl, and the others looked up.

Several hovercars sped toward them, the Superpower Bureau’s emblem of a hexagram inside a circle particularly eye-catching.

Looking closely, they could see the cabin doors opening, as if several figures were planning to force a landing by jumping onto the freighter.

"Leader Lu, it looks like the credit for this one is all mine."

Li Xiyuan spoke provocatively over the joint operations comms. He could be seen in a hovercar flying past the freighter, accompanied by Special Commissioner Liu of the Special Investigation Team and others.

Amidst the RAT-A-TAT of gunfire, the fierce wind cut like a knife.

Lu Chao’s expression was calm. Dressed in a black combat suit, he stood near the door of the silver-gray hovercar.

Behind him, Gao Hu, Chen Xiao, and the others were fully armed. Yao Jin was also with him, accompanied by her own people, and stood to one side holding an Alloy Longsword.

"What’s your plan?"

Yao Jin asked, her expression serious.

This final battle was no small matter. Although they had the upper hand, the members of that Reconqueror Branch wouldn’t just sit back and wait for death.

Especially those few at the Superpower Level.

"There’s nothing to say."

His tone was placid as Lu Chao silently looked down at the freighter below.

Yao Jin was slightly taken aback. For some reason, she suddenly felt like there was a subtle change in his aura.

But she couldn’t quite put her finger on what it was. Was it as if he were more confident, more assured?

While she was still wondering.

"They have a support team, don’t they?"

His expression betraying no emotion, Lu Chao faced the fierce wind, standing steadily at the opening of the cabin door.

Amidst the roar of cannons, his dynamic vision was pushed to its limits as he scanned the freighter’s deck. His gaze swept past Legos, Zhu Yue, and the others, finally landing on a single figure.

The young man in the blue sweatshirt stood on one side of the deck. With a flick of his finger, he shot out a blade that was like a grenade, detonating several shells in mid-air with a BOOM and blocking some of the City Guard Army’s fire.

In that instant.

As if sensing something, the young man’s movements paused slightly, and he looked up.

Their eyes met.

"Then let’s sink them completely."

Lu Chao’s eyes were serene.

WHOOSH!

With a leap, he took advantage of the moment the hovercar neared the freighter and jumped out of the cabin door.

The scene stunned everyone.

It wasn’t just Yao Jin who was astonished; Li Xiyuan and the members of the Special Investigation Team, who hadn’t yet made a move, also looked back with furrowed brows.

From a height of over ten meters, and under artillery fire, even a forced landing required some planning and covering fire. Otherwise, they would have already jumped.

But...

THUD!!

Like a rock crashing to the ground, he landed in the center of the freighter’s deck.

Lu Chao slowly bent his knees and let his arms, clad in the Shock-Edge Gauntlets, fall to his sides.

He let the surrounding Rebel members focus their fire on him, ignoring all the bullets.

A brown Qi Flame swirled into existence around him, making it look as if he had donned rock armor. His gaze passed over Legos and all the other Superpower Level individuals, once again locking onto the young man in blue, who was looking back with a cold expression.

"This day."

"I’ve waited a long time for this."
