Achieving Demon Godhood from Unlocking Talents
Chapter 402 - 72: Sudden Assassination (Part 2)
Fear mingled with curiosity in his eyes.
This former Dark Web legend was, at the very least, an expert at the peak of the Transcendence Level.
He had become famous over thirty years ago, retiring at his peak.
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call him an old monster.
Compared to him, Raccoon Cat, while famous in his own right, was completely out of his league.
DING DONG.
As the thought crossed his mind, the elevator doors slowly opened.
The burly man in the suit saw the light again and felt an inexplicable sense of relief. He’d never been so grateful to be alive.
Lu Chao didn’t linger or deliberately make things difficult. He simply carried the black briefcase and walked silently out of the lobby.
Many people along the way noticed him, their gazes shifting as they shot him curious looks.
No one who traded at a Dark Web branch was weak, especially those who had been to the negative floors.
Almost all of them had completed commissioned tasks of a certain level and had accounts with at least a thousand points and over a million Alliance Coins.
At this thought, a few of them revealed greedy looks, their eyes fixed on the black briefcase in Lu Chao’s hand as they began to follow him stealthily.
TAP. TAP.
His steps were casual. Lu Chao walked out of the hotel at a leisurely pace.
Through his perception, he was clearly aware of all the gazes around him. Whether it was the suspicion of the lookouts or the greed of those tailing him, nothing could hide from his sharp senses.
He crossed the hotel plaza and went around the flower beds.
Finally, just as he walked out of the hotel’s iron gates, planning to find a place to deal with his tail...
BOOM!!
A sudden explosion rang out.
Lu Chao’s gaze sharpened. He abruptly looked up toward the far end of the street.
It wasn’t just him. The few assassins behind him, as well as the lookouts from the Tan family and other factions on the roadside, all looked up into the distance, their expressions gradually turning to shock and suspicion.
In the distance, thick smoke billowed from a tall building, rising into the sky.
It looked like some kind of explosion had occurred.
They could even see several hovercars suspended high in the air. Some were frantically strafing a section of the road below, while others were making forceful landings, attempting to blockade the street.
There were also drones carrying explosives, continuously bombing the ground.
The scene was completely unexpected. A closer look, however, revealed a badge-like emblem of a verdant green tree on the hovercars’ fuselages—it was the mark of the Biotechnology Company.
Watching from afar, Lu Chao frowned slightly. The others around him were also stunned, frozen in place with shock and surprise.
The Biotechnology Company.
’What are they doing?’
...
"Rool!"
A strange syllable echoed through the street. A figure in a black robe stood outside a shop, shouting in fury.
An invisible Spiritual Shock erupted, pinning a Biotechnology security team that was closing in on the street corner right where they stood.
"Huee!"
Immediately after, another cold, sinister syllable escaped his lips.
The shadows in a corner by the street began to squirm as if they had a life of their own, materializing out of thin air into a giant, black-scaled python that lunged at the Biotechnology security guards.
In a matter of moments, its gaping maw turned from illusion to reality, horrifyingly real.
The seven- or eight-meter-long python brutally devoured the heavily armed and well-equipped Biotechnology security guards, leaving behind only a pool of blood and shattered bones.
"You’re courting death!"
A cold shout erupted from one of the hovercars that were strafing the street, indifferent to civilian casualties.
Several Superpower Level security advisors leaped down with their teams. Squads of elites in black combat suits followed, heavily armed, and blockaded the surrounding streets.
Advisor Sun, dressed in a black suit, charged forward like a war machine. Arcs of silvery-white light flickered around him as he crossed the road, heading straight for the black-robed man.
However, in the next instant...
"Koop!"
KRAKA-KRAKA-KRAKA!
A sudden, cold voice echoed in his ears, and he keenly sensed that something was wrong.
The ground shook, and the asphalt surface of the wide road rapidly cracked. An earthen wall shot up from the ground, six or seven meters high, blocking his path.
He looked up again and saw another black-robed figure had appeared, standing atop the earthen wall, holding a brown wooden staff.
With a frigid gaze, the figure looked down on the Biotechnology personnel, his eyes filled with killing intent.
"You who defy the Scripture of Destruction!"
A fireball several meters in diameter rapidly coalesced above his head. The figure uttered a syllable and swung his staff downward.
"Die!"
BOOM!!
....
BOOM!!
A muffled roar, like the boom of a cannon shell, echoed through the streets.
The sudden attack stunned everyone. Countless pedestrians in the nearby streets fled in all directions.
"Run!"
"It’s the Green Demon!"
Screams and wails.
Order shattered in an instant. Cars on the road crashed into each other, spewing gray smoke and blocking the way.
The panicked crowd scrambled over one another. Explosions periodically erupted in the air, sending showers of glass shards raining down.
Seeing this, Lu Chao immediately blended into the crowd, shaking off the trackers and lookouts behind him.
Then, he looked over.
CRASH!!
A huge lamppost fell from the sky, hurtling toward the ground.
A crying little girl in a pink dress stood frozen in place, completely unaware of the approaching danger.
Just as the shadow of the metal pole was about to engulf her and smash her to a pulp...
THUD!!
With a muffled bang, the metal pole exploded into pieces.
Lu Chao stood firmly in front of the little girl, his fist held out, shielding her completely.
A woman in her thirties a few meters away, her face streaked with tears, rushed over and hugged the little girl, thanking him repeatedly.
"Thank you, thank you so much!"
"Go, quickly," Lu Chao shook his head, gesturing for them to leave as soon as possible.
He glanced from side to side as his Life Sensing rapidly expanded, blanketing the entire area.
The nearby pedestrians were fleeing quickly, their numbers dwindling.
But he suddenly turned his head, looking to one side of the street.
A car had been kicked by one of the Biotechnology Company’s Superpower Levels and was sent flying toward a street corner.
It was about to crash into several pedestrians in front of a clothing store.
His eyes flickered, but he didn’t make a move.
Because...
"Hah!"
BANG!!
A white Qi Flame erupted, enveloping a fist that smashed into the car.
A man in a black trench coat wearing a Raccoon Cat mask stood in front of the pedestrians, bringing the car to a heavy stop with a punch that dented its chassis.
Amidst the chorus of grateful voices, the man didn’t even turn his head.
Instead, as if sensing something, he looked toward Lu Chao.
Their eyes met.
He didn’t know Lu Chao’s identity, but he still gave a good-natured nod.
Lu Chao nodded back before turning his gaze to the battle in the distance.
The two black-robed men holding staffs were incredibly powerful. One of them had a Life Magnetic Field that had already reached the Exploration Level.
He stood at a crossroads hundreds of meters away, perched atop the massive earthen wall.
Every syllable he uttered sent a fireball several meters wide shooting out, turning into a meteor shower that slammed into parked cars, causing them to explode one by one into charred wrecks.
With a mere flick of his wrist, he could communicate with certain natural elements, causing the bedrock to shift and crack. Several earth dragons burst forth, suppressing the Superpower Level security guards to the point they couldn’t fight back.
’Exploration Level.’
Lu Chao’s expression was grave; he had instantly perceived the opponent’s power level.
And those techniques... they were incredibly familiar.
They were clearly from the path of Magic.
’The God-Worshiping Church.’
In an instant, Lu Chao connected the dots and pieced together what was likely happening.
The last time he destroyed the Holy Scripture of Magic, the giant Black Whale Creature had appeared for a moment and destroyed the Biotechnology Company’s cargo ship.
If the God-Worshiping Church investigated with any real effort, they would naturally find some clues.
By the same token, the Biotechnology Company could just as easily suspect that the Green Demon was connected to the God-Worshiping Church. Perhaps that was why they were hunting down these two Mages.
Thinking of this, Lu Chao scanned the street.
Most of the pedestrians had already fled, and the few who remained had taken shelter inside buildings.
His expression shifted as he stood there, pondering for a few moments.
The Biotechnology Company had a grudge against him, and he did, in fact, want them to fight each other to divert their attention.
Since both sides were already locked in a life-and-death struggle, it wouldn’t be wise for him to show himself and expose his presence.
With that, Lu Chao turned and began to walk away, planning to leave the area.
But then, from somewhere deep in his subconscious, he suddenly sensed a hint of danger.
It was a dangerous intuition stemming from his Round Sun Great Success, an almost precognitive reflection of what was to come.
In that instant, a chill ran down his spine. He scanned his surroundings.
The street was still in chaos, with crashed cars blocking the road. The RAT-TAT-TAT of gunfire echoed from the firefight zone.
Raccoon Cat was nowhere to be seen; it seemed he had left.
A cold, sinister energy permeated the air. He expanded his Life Sensing again, blanketing the area.
At the same time, he quickened his pace, turning to leave the immediate vicinity. He passed the lamppost and headed straight for a narrow alley.
Gradually, his footsteps began to echo.
Even though he had already left the battle zone between the Biotechnology Company and the God-Worshiping Church, the chill in his heart grew stronger.
Finally, when he had walked deep into a deserted alley and reached a narrow intersection, his Life Sensing finally picked up an anomaly. A Life Magnetic Field at the Exploration Level was rapidly approaching.
His mind set, Lu Chao stopped where he was.
He glanced out of the corner of his eye at the convex mirror mounted on a red pole by the concrete wall.
On the wall of a building in the alley behind him, the air seemed to shimmer faintly.
Even though nothing was physically there, he could clearly sense a Life Magnetic Field at the Exploration Level drawing near.
Without a doubt.
It was coming for him.
