Above the Mage!
Chapter 49 - 48: Spirit Communication Potion
Chapter 49: Chapter 48: Spirit Communication Potion
Among the five Magic Formulas, there was neither the Repair Skill nor the Mage’s Hand. Nor was there the bizarre magic that Mage Seda had used to inflict unbearable pain on him during his interrogation.
Clearly, these Magic Scrolls did not contain all the magic Mage Seda had mastered. However, this was quite normal; Magic Formulas were not the only channel through which a Mage could learn magic. Furthermore, even if a Mage learned magic through a Magic Formula, they wouldn’t necessarily keep it after successfully building the Magic Model. After all, under normal circumstances, a Magic Formula lost its value once the magic was mastered. Unless, of course, one harbored crooked thoughts of reselling it.
Although the five Magic Formulas weren’t a complete set, they were all Gaode’s "old acquaintances." [Tracking Mark] went without saying, and [Touch of Fatigue] was clearly the Close Combat Magic that Amy had previously revealed Mage Seda possessed. As for [Flash Technique] and [Flaming Arrow], Gaode had personally experienced them during his showdown with Mage Seda. As for [Detect Magic], Gaode had also seen Pierre cast it. All five Tricks were practical and powerful.
With a full five new Magic Formulas placed before them, any other Mage Apprentice would have fallen into a happy dilemma at this moment: which magic should they choose to learn first? After all, for a Mage Apprentice, mastering a Trick took anywhere from six months to a year. Therefore, one had to prioritize what to learn. A person’s energy and time were ultimately limited.
It was just like studying. When ordinary students chose tutoring classes, they usually picked one or two highly cost-effective subjects that would quickly boost their grades for targeted breakthroughs. Of course, this was the mindset of an ordinary student. For a top student, there was only one phrase: "I want them all!" Top students had no weak subjects, and Gaode had always played the role of a top student since he was a child.
Fortunately, even in a different world, Gaode could continue his role as a "top student" in the realm of magic. He wanted them all! The order in which he learned the magic didn’t matter to him. He could casually pull out any Magic Formula and begin building the Magic Model. It was just a matter of a few days earlier or later, anyway.
...
Satisfied, Gaode temporarily set aside the five Magic Formulas and picked up the three pieces of ancient parchment to look through them. As expected, they were the Magic Potion Recipes he had been yearning for. He first pulled out one of them:
Basic Spider Venom Potion (Zero Tier Magic Potion): Carries a strong paralyzing effect, non-lethal...
Main Ingredients: 1 stalk of Snake Tooth Grass, 1 stalk of Mountain Wormwood, 1 portion of Green Spider Sac...
Gaode was extremely familiar with the Basic Spider Venom Potion, so he merely gave it a cursory glance before setting it aside without looking closely. The second recipe he picked up was the one he was most interested in—the Basic Endurance Potion recipe:
Basic Endurance Potion (Zero Tier Magic Potion): Significantly enhances the drinker’s physical stamina and endurance, with no obvious side effects.
Main Ingredients: 1 section of High Mountain Iron Wood Root, 1 Fiery Sun Fruit pit, 1 portion of Wild Wolf Gland Fluid; Auxiliary Ingredients...
Preparation Steps: Naturally dry fresh Fiery Sun Fruit under the midday sun for three days, then crack it open and retain the pit for later use. Peel and slice the High Mountain Iron Wood Root...
Demonize the three main ingredients. Extract the "drought-resistant, cold-resistant" medicinal properties of the High Mountain Iron Wood Root, and extract the "fiery" medicinal properties of the Fiery Sun Fruit...
Place the Demonized Fiery Sun Fruit pit in a mortar, add an appropriate amount of mountain spring water, and grind clockwise. During the grinding process, appropriately add the Wild Wolf Gland Fluid to Neutralize its "fiery" medicinal properties, but ensure that the "fiery" Potion does not fall below... until the mixture presents a pale golden hue...
The recipe was so detailed that it could be said to have narrated every step and every detail of preparing the Magic Potion. As long as one had a certain level of understanding and talent, they could completely master the preparation of the Basic Endurance Potion through this recipe and a bit of trial and error.
"Excellent!" Gaode’s joy was evident in his expression.
Phil’s Magic Pharmacy offered an acquisition price of two gold and five silver coins for a batch of Basic Endurance Potions, making it more valuable than the Basic Spider Venom Potion.
"I must master this recipe," Gaode thought to himself as he picked up the third piece of parchment.
Compared to the previous two Magic Potion Recipes, this piece of parchment appeared much more worn. Its edges were frayed, and the yellow of the paper was deeper. Gaode formed a faint guess in his mind. Could this be the Magic Potion that Pharmacist Seda had been trying to prepare for the past ten years? While making this guess, Gaode’s gaze naturally fell upon the parchment.
The first line of words that entered his sight made his heart skip a beat.
Spirit Communication Potion (One Tier Magic Potion)!
A One Tier Magic Potion! This was a One Tier Magic Potion. Just two Zero Tier Magic Potion recipes were enough to support the operation of a Medicinal Garden. If he could prepare a One Tier Magic Potion, he would surely have a solid foothold even in Bremen City. Daydreaming, Gaode continued to read.
Spirit Communication Potion (One Tier Magic Potion): Consumption temporarily elevates the drinker’s Spiritual Power, enhancing Spiritual Perception and Spirit Control Power, but usage will be accompanied by slight mental fatigue afterward. Drinking this Potion before building a Magic Model will increase the success rate of the Magic Model construction.
...
Gaode realized that his heart had skipped a beat too early just now. This was the moment it should have truly leaped.
Increasing the success rate of building a Magic Model!
Although building a Magic Model was as easy as solving a math problem for him, he was just a special case. For the vast majority of Mages in this world, building a Magic Model was a headache-inducing task that required a massive amount of time and energy. Yet, it was incredibly important and absolutely indispensable. Under such circumstances, the broad market for a Magic Potion capable of increasing the success rate of Magic Model construction went without saying.
"No wonder that old geezer was obsessed with preparing this Magic Potion for a full ten years. Aside from his stubborn personality, the temptation is simply too great..." Gaode thought, now completely understanding Mage Seda’s obsession.
He continued reading down the page.
Main Ingredients: Half an ounce of Spirit Communication Bone Powder (approximately 14g), 1 pair of Illusion Butterfly Wings.
Auxiliary Ingredients: 1 portion of Silver Thread Grass, xxxxxx, xxxxxx, xxxxxx.
Preparation Steps: Take the colorful Illusion Butterfly Wings, dry them under the moonlight, and grind them into powder. Keep for later use. Spirit Communication Bone Powder...
Demonize the two main ingredients. Extract the "Psychedelic" medicinal properties of the Illusion Butterfly Wings... extract the "Spirit Communication" medicinal properties of the Spirit Communication Bone Powder... Demonize the four auxiliary ingredients. Extract the "Guiding" and "Spirit-enhancing" medicinal properties of the Silver Thread Grass, and extract the "Neutralize" and "modulating" medicinal properties of xxxxxx...
Place the Illusion Butterfly Wings powder and the Spirit Communication Bone Powder together in a mortar...
...
The recipe was still extremely detailed, but for some unknown reason, three of the four auxiliary ingredients had been inexplicably erased. This included every single instance where these three auxiliary ingredients appeared in the preparation steps; they were all identically erased without a single omission. Clearly, someone had done this on purpose.
Above two of the erased auxiliary ingredients, Mage Seda had supplemented two medicinal material names: "Mandala Tree Bark" and "Dry Nettle." Only above the final erased auxiliary ingredient’s name had Mage Seda written the word "Sage," followed by a "?" mark, which likely represented uncertainty.
After ten years of obsessive attempts, Mage Seda hadn’t been entirely without gains. However, Gaode didn’t completely trust these gains. After all, his predecessor had been poisoned to death by these very gains of Mage Seda...
Gaode shook his head. Although he knew the value of the Spirit Communication Potion, he had the self-awareness to set the recipe down. He definitely wasn’t going to undertake a money-wasting, energy-draining endeavor like trying to complete the Spirit Communication Potion recipe—at least not anytime soon.
