Chapter 2996: Chapter 2997: Disrespecting the Elderly
Wang Song glanced at Yong Guang and couldn’t help but sigh, "Alright, I’ll thank you on Yong Guang’s behalf, sir."
"Go ahead." Bai Ruozhu waved her hand. This was all she could manage; she couldn’t possibly take the whole merchant team, otherwise what would she do if they encountered another one?
With too many people, how could she ensure everyone’s safety along the way?
Wang Song called for help to carry Yong Guang away. Gao Zhou couldn’t help but sigh, glaring at Jiang Yichun and saying, "If you dare treat me like that, I’ll get your mother to beat you up."
Jiang Yichun gave him an exaggerated eye roll, "My mom would only beat you up."
Chushuang pursed her lips and smiled. They had been separated since her son was born, and she always feared he wouldn’t be close to her. When they reunited, her son was cold and aloof, making her extremely nervous because she always worried about saying or doing the wrong thing to make him dislike her.
It was Ruozhu who quietly told her that Jiang Yichun was always like this, what people called "expressionless." In reality, he didn’t know how to interact with Chushuang either and was quite nervous himself.
Back then, Bai Ruozhu also suggested they have a family gathering to drink and watch the moon. After drinking, everyone became a bit tipsy, and the words flowed more freely. After that, the distance between them lessened.
Just like now, Jiang Yichun stood with his mother, close to her, making Chushuang happy, albeit at Gao Zhou’s expense.
"Why are you scolding my son for no reason? Do you really want me to beat you up?" Chushuang said fiercely to Gao Zhou.
Jiang Yichun’s expression didn’t change, but there was a hint of satisfaction in his eyes, making Gao Zhou stare wide-eyed. Did he really have to deal with such a troublesome son?
"Just you wait, if you upset me now, I’ll have your son upset you," Gao Zhou said, heading off to find the two little ones.
Bai Ruozhu laughed so hard her stomach hurt. Gao Zhou was definitely a clown, "Have your son upset you," how could he even think of that?
The next second, Bai Ruozhu burst out laughing again, finally understanding that when Gao Zhou was shameless, no one could match him.
Gao Zhou had Little Bengbeng sitting on his shoulders while he crawled on the ground like a horse, and he told Little Tiaotiao, "Only one person can ride at a time; go and ride your dad!"
Little Tiaotiao looked at Jiang Yichun expectantly, "Dad, horsey!"
Ao Song’s mouth dropped open; this was beyond awkward.
"If this were the battlefield, this would be called losing a thousand to kill eight hundred. I don’t know him." Bai Ruozhu covered her forehead, heading out of the cave.
The guards had already withdrawn. The Medical Saint had started his antics again.
Ao Song and the Astrologer also sneaked out, using the excuse that they needed to get some porridge.
Little Tiaotiao, seeing his dad ignoring him while Bengbeng was having so much fun, was about to cry.
"Dad, Dad doesn’t love me!" sobbed Little Tiaotiao, heartbroken.
Bai Ruozhu felt a pang of sorrow; this was all Gao Zhou’s doing.
Chushuang was also at a loss, "What are you doing? This is disgraceful!"
Gao Zhou smirked proudly, "I’m not old yet, so it doesn’t matter if I’m disgraced or not."
"You..." Chushuang was so mad she was about to pull him up when Bengbeng’s lip quivered, on the verge of crying, forcing Chushuang to stop.
Gao Zhou looked provocatively at his son, determined today to embarrass his aloof son.
"Dad! Dad!" called Little Tiaotiao.
Jiang Yichun’s face was icy cold, enough to scare anyone, except the two little ones at home who didn’t fear him, probably because they were used to it. They often teased him during their journey.
"Fine, you win." Jiang Yichun gritted his teeth, picked up Little Tiaotiao, and let him sit on his shoulders.
However, he didn’t crawl on the ground like Gao Zhou. Instead, he said to Little Tiaotiao, "Riding a horse means riding a tall horse. We can see further than they can see."
Saying this, he carried Little Tiaotiao towards the cave entrance to view the scenery outside.
Little Tiaotiao wasn’t scared and clapped his hands, "I’m higher than Bengbeng, Dad is the best!"
Bengbeng wasn’t pleased, "Grandpa, I want to be high."
Gao Zhou was speechless; what was this all about? Did he crawl around for nothing just now?
By the cave entrance, Bai Ruozhu was laughing so hard she could hardly breathe, "That’s what you get for digging your own grave."
Gao Zhou glared at her, "Is that how you talk to an elder? Don’t you know about respecting your elders?"
Chushuang went over and gave him a light slap, "Do you act like an elder? Don’t talk about Ruozhu, or you can go back yourself. None of us want to deal with you."
"You, you, you..." Gao Zhou was speechless; alright, no one was siding with him.
"Grandpa is the best," Little Bengbeng said sweetly.
For a moment, Gao Zhou almost burst into tears. At least he had someone close to him.
The rain had passed, but the sky was still overcast, feeling as if it might rain again.
"Half a day’s journey forward, there will be a small village, but the road is difficult now, so it might take more time," Jiang Yichun said.
"Let’s go then. The conditions here are too basic," Bai Ruozhu said.
She could take the children into the Space for a better meal, but her subordinates wouldn’t get anything good, and she couldn’t just openly bring out supplies without raising suspicions.
"Alright, let’s get ready to set off then," Jiang Yichun said.
About a quarter of an hour later, the team set off, while the merchant team clearly couldn’t keep up and didn’t insist.
Just as they moved out, Yong Guang woke up, grabbing Wang Song and saying, "Where is the imperial official? I need to ask them to help me find Qiaoqiao!"
Wang Song frowned, "Yong Guang, wake up!"
His tone grew stern, "Your daughter has been causing trouble for everyone, delaying our journey. Since we’re all acquaintances, no one said much about it, but Lord Bai and the others are imperial officials on an assigned mission. Do you expect them to delay their task for your daughter?"
Yong Guang deflated immediately. He had been frantic, but Wang Song’s words snapped him back to reality.
"I apologize to everyone," he said, ashamed, having lost the face to further trouble Bai Ruozhu and the others.
Wang Song’s wife pulled him aside and whispered, "Today I heard from Liu Zhen that she saw Qiaoqiao mingling closely with the Du Family’s merchant team; could she have been deceived?"
"Deceived by whom?" Wang Song was exasperated whenever he heard Yong Qiaoqiao, feeling worn out by a young girl during a trade expedition.
"How would I know? She wouldn’t just run off without a reason, would she? Who is she running to?" Wang Song’s wife said.
Wang Song sighed, "Make sure Liu Zhen doesn’t talk about this everywhere; we don’t want this getting around."
"I understand, I’ve already cautioned her," Wang Song’s wife said.
Meanwhile, Bai Ruozhu and the others returned to the official road, unexpectedly encountering a disheveled Yong Qiaoqiao by the roadside.
She was dragging one leg, unsure if she’d sprained it or broken it. Bai Ruozhu glanced over but had no intention of helping her heal.
"Sir, please save me!" Yong Qiaoqiao pleaded.
"Your merchant team is still where they were. You can return and join them," Bai Ruozhu said coldly.
Yong Qiaoqiao shook her head and cried, "I don’t want to be with them. Please, sir, save me!"
