A Warm Marriage After Rebirth
Chapter 443: Who Schemed Against Whom? (7)
“Mr. Quinn, we’ve been living like animals for two months! Two whole months without a break! You’ve finally grown a conscience. I’m going out to get lucky tonight! It’s been so long, I’ve forgotten what a woman even looks like!”
“Finally, a chance to really relax! We’re not going home sober tonight!”
“I’ve never been to a place this fancy! We’re really scoring!”
…
“Wow, the president is really generous this time. Does this count as openly wining and dining on the company’s dime?”
“Company’s dime, my ass! The president is paying for this out of her own pocket!” Chester Sykes rapped him sharply on the head. This guy would say anything!
“You guys go on ahead. I have a guest!” Nadia Chapman didn’t mind the harmless banter between her employees. In fact, she felt it made everyone more approachable.
Chester Sykes glanced over and saw Leo Fenton walk in holding a bouquet of lilies. His brow furrowed instinctively. “This guy’s bad news. A total lech. Be careful, or he’ll eat you alive.”
Nadia Chapman smiled confidently. “We’ll see who’s eating whom. You shouldn’t jump to conclusions so quickly! I’m leaving your men in your hands. Don’t feel you have to save me money!”
Chester Sykes shrugged. “You said it. Alright, boys, let’s go! To Twilight!”
“Congratulations on your successful product launch.” Leo Fenton watched the large, boisterous crowd leave. “It seems I’ve come at a bad time. I’ve interrupted your party!” Despite his words, his face showed not a hint of embarrassment.
“So, now that you’ve realized the gravity of the situation, are you planning to leave immediately?” A faint smile played on Nadia Chapman’s lips. She looked like she was joking, but her tone held a hint of sincerity.
Leo Fenton sensed it but chose to ignore it. “It’s just a staff dinner. How could that be more important than work? Besides, I can treat President Chapman to dinner to make up for it!”
“You have a point.” Nadia Chapman readily agreed. She knew Leo Fenton’s objective. ‘His two previous investments have seen considerable returns. He’s probably here to increase his investment amount. It’s a profitable venture, after all, and who complains about making too much money? Besides, Leo Fenton’s line of work burns through cash like nothing else!’
This time, Leo Fenton didn’t choose the conventional Stelluna Hotel, but instead went to Westbound—the classiest and most luxurious bar in Aethelgard. Nadia Chapman had never been here before. But she found herself quite liking the atmosphere; it wasn’t murky and chaotic like other bars and nightclubs.
Darkness breeds intimacy. Alcohol fuels confusion. Add a man with sinister intentions to the mix, and the night was destined to be dangerous.
While Nadia Chapman was in a situation of unknown danger, Seraphina Sterling’s circumstances were hardly any better. After returning to school that afternoon, Genevieve Churchill and Seraphina Sterling had gone to their respective club activities. Genevieve Churchill was doing well. She was an exceptionally talented student, the upperclassmen in the art society were easygoing, and her cheerful personality meant she was having a pretty good time.
But things were different for Seraphina Sterling. She had a bet with Preston Patterson, and today, with everyone as a witness, the two of them had to pick their stocks at the same time. The timeframe was incredibly short—only fifteen days. In such a brief period, there was basically no chance to sell and then buy again. This single purchase would determine the final outcome.
Although the Marshal had offered to provide one hundred thousand in capital, Seraphina Sterling ultimately refused. Her identity had been exposed by Joel Xavier today. Shelby Fenton already knew, and even though she didn’t quite believe it and was still skeptical, the secret would soon slip from her lips. ‘Since it’s come to this, there’s no need for me to be indebted to the Marshal. It’s only a hundred thousand. I can afford it!’
