Chapter 436: Chapter 436: Seraphina Sterling’s Identity Exposed (8)

Shelby Fenton was so furious she could kill someone. "I just came from the Jade Pavilion, and their two sets were already long gone! I don’t care. You tricked me, so you’ll have to answer for it. I’m taking this jewelry set today, one way or another!"

Joel Xavier gave Seraphina Sterling an apologetic smile. ’I’ve done my best.’ Though he detested the young woman, he couldn’t afford to offend the Fenton Family. After all, the Fentons were a massive and influential conglomerate. How could a mere businessman risk offending those who ran the banks?

"Shelby Fenton, could you be any more shameless? This jewelry set is mine now! Why don’t you go jump in a lake!" Before Seraphina Sterling could say a word, Genevieve Churchill had already jumped into the fray.

"Genevieve Churchill? Seraphina Sterling?" No wonder their silhouettes looked familiar. It was these two pests. Perfect. She could settle old scores and new ones all at once. "Genevieve Churchill, did I hear you correctly? You, of all people, want to buy jewelry? Do you have the money? The capital? Can you even afford these Ancient Charm Porcelain Ornaments? This is a limited edition set that costs five hundred thousand! Careful you don’t sprain your tongue talking so big!"

"I don’t have the money! I never said I was paying for it myself. I can’t afford it, but someone is getting it for me!" Genevieve Churchill laughed wildly, her expression practically begging to be punched.

"Someone’s getting it for you? Hmph! Don’t tell me you mean Seraphina Sterling, who’s standing right there? You two country bumpkins should stop holding up their business. This jewelry set... even if you sold a kidney, it wouldn’t be enough! Now stop being such an eyesore!" Shelby Fenton stepped right past them. "Manager, don’t believe a word they say. They can’t afford this. These two are just a pair of country bumpkins. Forget five hundred thousand, they couldn’t even scrounge up fifty thousand! Just sell it to me!"

"Country bumpkins? Miss, you must be mistaken. This is the young lady of the Sterling Family—the Sterling Family of Aethelgard. How could she possibly be a country bumpkin?" Joel Xavier said with surprise.

"The young lady of the Sterling Family? The Sterlings of Aethelgard?" Shelby Fenton stared at Seraphina Sterling in shock, her eyes practically popping out of their sockets, before bursting into laughter.

"Store Manager, you can’t be serious, can you? Seraphina Sterling is just some poor student from a small town who managed to test into a university in Aethelgard. How could she possibly be the young lady of the Sterling Family? You’ve definitely been scammed! I’m her classmate and her roommate—I know her situation better than anyone! There is absolutely no way she’s the young lady of the Sterling Family! You should just sell the jewelry to me. She can’t afford it!"

As she spoke, Shelby Fenton reached for the jewelry box, but Joel Xavier pulled it away. "But she’s already paid! Per store policy, the set belongs to her now!"

"Shelby, aren’t you done yet? Hurry up, we don’t have much time!" a middle-aged woman with a curvaceous figure called as she approached. Seraphina Sterling recognized her. This was a woman she could never forget, not even in death.

"Mama, they’re ganging up on me! These two country bumpkins stole my jewelry! Mama, you have to help me!" Shelby Fenton cried, running into Jacinta Hale’s arms, the very picture of aggrieved innocence.

"Don’t you worry. Mama will take care of this for you," Jacinta Hale said, walking up to Joel Xavier.

"Store Manager Xavier, this really isn’t right of you. Since Apex Collections first opened, our Fenton Family has given you no small amount of business. For you to gang up with other customers to bully my daughter... that’s going a bit too far, don’t you think? Let’s not forget, you still have a short-term loan pending approval, don’t you?"

It had to be said, Jacinta Hale was a sharp woman; she had cut straight to the point in just a few words. Her tone was mild and her demeanor soft, but her words dripped with threat. A headache was already forming for Joel Xavier. ’Of all the people for the boss to provoke, why did it have to be bankers?’

"Mrs. Fenton, I am terribly sorry. I had no idea this young lady was your daughter, a lady of the Fenton Family. If I had known beforehand, I would have absolutely set aside this latest design for you! But the set has already been purchased by another customer. You see my predicament... my hands are tied!"

’What an act. He’s so good at pretending, he could win an award for it.’ Seraphina Sterling shot a cool glance at the man in the middle of his performance. "Give us our things. We’re leaving."

"Miss, my daughter is truly fond of this jewelry set. I’m willing to pay you double the price," Jacinta Hale offered. She was the type of mother who doted on her daughter; whatever Shelby Fenton wanted, she would move heaven and earth to get it for her.

"My apologies, madam, but my friend is also quite fond of this set." Seraphina Sterling gave her nothing more than a passing glance, then picked up her bag and walked straight out of Apex Collections.

Shelby Fenton glared daggers at their departing backs, wishing her gaze could burn a hole right through them. "Mom, the store manager was in on it with them! I know those two! They don’t have that kind of money for such expensive jewelry! Tell Dad not to approve his loan! Don’t release the funds to Apex Collections!"

"Don’t worry. Even if you hadn’t said a word, Mama was planning on it," Jacinta Hale said, pulling out her phone to make a call. Seeing this, Joel Xavier hurried to stop her, his voice filled with panic. "Mrs. Fenton, this truly has nothing to do with me! You can’t take your anger out on me! I’m counting on those funds for a business matter! In fact, the money was supposed to be disbursed today!"

"You offended my daughter and you still expect a loan from Fenton Bank? In your dreams!" Jacinta Hale left him no room for recourse, cutting off his financial lifeline without a second thought.

Just at that moment, a sales associate approached. "Store Manager, the seller has arrived. They’re waiting in the reception room."
