Chapter 387: Chapter 387: Someone Needs to Be Taught a Lesson (3)
Jasmine Faulkner couldn’t stand seeing Walter Sterling dote on Seraphina Sterling. Ignoring the presence of others, she blurted out exactly what was on her mind, accusing Seraphina in front of everyone!
"So, this is why Grandpa called me back, Aunt Jasmine?" Seraphina Sterling asked, surprised. ’She’d thought something major had happened. Turns out, it was just her restless aunt stirring up trouble.’
What Jasmine Faulkner couldn’t stand most was that look of exasperation from Seraphina; it always made her feel mocked, despised, and looked down upon! Jasmine’s voice rose instinctively. "What? You think this is some trivial matter? Seraphina Sterling! Has Grandpa spoiled you so rotten you’ve lost all sense of proportion? Do you not understand the gravity of the situation? This concerns the Sterling Family’s reputation! You think this is a ’trivial matter’?"
Seraphina rolled her eyes in exasperation. ’Has Aunt Jasmine been a high-society wife for so long that her brain has rusted? How could she even come up with such an idea?’
Seraphina’s gesture only enraged Jasmine further. "Dad, look at her! That expression, that attitude! Does she have any respect for me as her elder? She knows she’s wrong but refuses to admit it, and shows no remorse! Dad, you have to teach her a harsh lesson! Make her learn, or she’ll become completely unteachable! This time it’s forging a university acceptance letter; who knows what she’ll forge next! And you still want to put someone like her in the company, Dad? I say forget it! It’ll save Owen the trouble of having to clean up all her messes!"
"Seraphina, what do you have to say?" Walter Sterling might be old, but his mind was as sharp as ever. In fact, he was shrewder than anyone else in the room; the term "old fox" might as well have been coined for him.
"What I’m most curious about is why Aunt Jasmine is so sure my acceptance letter is fake. Did you secretly take it to be officially authenticated?" Seraphina looked at the agitated Jasmine Faulkner.
"If you’d really gotten into Aethelgard University, why would you be here right now? I even caught a glimpse of you on the street this afternoon. After that, I made some inquiries. Aethelgard University is in the middle of its military training for new students. All the freshmen are on campus for it. If you were really one of them, why would you be out and about?" Jasmine’s confidence was absolute, her tone growing more arrogant by the second.
"Which means you never got into Aethelgard University at all! The acceptance letter you showed Grandpa was a fake! And you probably thought you were so clever, didn’t you? Thinking up a scheme like that to curry favor with him? It was the stupidest plan imaginable, destined to be exposed at the slightest misstep!"
"And you’re the only one still smug about it, thinking your plan was so brilliant! Do you have any idea how much trouble this lie will cause the Sterling Family? How many people will be whispering about us behind our backs? All you care about is how people praised you when Grandpa introduced you to our social circle. But have you ever considered that a lie like this can’t be hidden forever? The truth always comes out!"
"Once your lie is exposed, how do you think the other prestigious families will talk about us? Because of you, the Sterling Family is going to become the laughingstock of all high society! You used to be mediocre, but at least you were harmless! Mediocre people should just stay mediocre. If you want to be praised and admired, then you should rely on your own merits, on real talent! What’s the point of using these cheap tricks? In the end, you’ll only tarnish the Sterling Family’s name and drag everyone else down with you!"
Jasmine Faulkner continued her tirade, unleashing the torrent of pent-up frustration she had been holding back.
"Are you finished, Aunt Jasmine? If you are, perhaps you could give me a chance to speak?" Seraphina wasn’t angry. ’Jasmine Faulkner had resented her ever since the incident with Faye Sterling. This time, she thought she’d finally found some real leverage and naturally had to vent all her frustrations. But what she didn’t realize was that no matter what she said today, she was only setting herself up for humiliation.’
