Chapter 92: Chapter 92

Kath’tan took the tightly held trunk from Dulce’s hand and guided the Vampire to sit on an armchair, he needed more time to recover. Warping immediately after going through a portal was a lot for one unfamiliar with both.

He grudgingly let go of the Vampire’s hand, going over to place his trunk by the bed. It was strange to have Dulce sitting in his room, yet it felt familiar all the same, like the Vampire had always been here.

"How do you feel?" He asked after a few quiet moments.

Dulce could lift his head now without feeling like the world was spinning, sitting up straighter with a self-conscious expression. "Better," He admitted, looking around for the first time.

It looked no different from Earth to him, the room was comforting, the curtains drawn so he couldn’t see outside. "Are we in Threnval?"

"Yes." Kath’tan said, remaining standing. His room had remained unchanged since he left, nothing out of place. At least servants still remembered to clean it, although that had little to do with him. They would clean every inch of the castle regardless of who it belonged to.

"This is my room in the castle." He added although he didn’t have to, he could have kept that secret to himself.

Dulce looked around again, this time with gentler eyes. "It’s comforting. I didn’t expect your room to be this way." He said lightly, able to rise to his feet without losing his balance.

He was simply too curious about what it looked like outside, if it was no different from Earth. Even then, it would be surreal, and a little disappointing. "Can I open the curtains?" He remembered to ask.

Kath’tan was still stuck on Dulce’s description of his room... comforting. He glanced around, he supposed it was, especially to him. This was the one place he wasn’t constantly reminded of his bloodline.

"You can," He allowed, the longer they spent in his room, in his home, the more his shell of anger thinned. He simply couldn’t keep it up any longer, outside, he could be just a Fiend, but here, he was a bastard.

Dulce eagerly made his way across the polished floor, gingerly opening one of the curtains. The heavy curtains were a pale purple and it was clear that they had once been a vibrant purple shade.

The curtains opened to a magnificent view, a startlingly red sky and five blinding suns, it made Dulce gasp. Any other Vampire would have been completely eviscerated but he wanted nothing more than to step outside to get a clearer view for himself.

"So many suns," He said excitedly, glancing over his shoulder.

Kath’tan had never heard of a Vampire so drawn to the sun. "We need to leave," He said solemnly. They had a reason for coming to Threnval, one that he was eager to find out more about.

"Of course," Dulce straightened up and dropped the curtains, looking to Kath’tan to lead the way. He had dressed properly for the journey, complete with a waistcoat and overcoat, but the five suns outside weren’t just for show, Threnval was incredibly hot.

He tolerated it, walking after Kath’tan when the Demon started for the door. "I hope my presence wouldn’t cause a ruckus," He mumbled, deeply worried.

Kath’tan stepped out and waited for the Vampire to do the same, bringing a ’human’ along with him would be frowned upon, but everything he did was frowned upon so it mattered little.

"Just keep you being a Vampire a secret." He said. He knew that Dulce would be left well alone, and he wouldn’t stand for it otherwise, but a human companion was easier to accept than a Vampire.

"Of course," Dulce agreed easily, stepping into a lavish hallway.

The carpets were a deep red, the walls a vibrant gold to match. Even the curtains on the windows in the hallway were also red, with gold tassels and embroidery. The difference between the rest of the castle and Kath’tan’s room couldn’t be overstated.

By the first turn, they had already run into another. A Fiend wearing an apron and carrying a duster, clearly a maid. She stared openly at Kath’tan when she saw him, saying nothing to him as she brazenly walked past the son of the Grand Duke.

Their destination was the throne room, so as they left the distant wing where Kath’tan’s rooms were, and approached the throne room, there were more and more people to be seen.

"Kath’tan," A tall Fiend rose to his feet at the sight of them, his hands held out. "And here I thought you were dead..."

They had stepped into a large hall with half-walls, large columns holding up the roof. It was a pathway, with both entrances without doors. But there were also chairs for relaxing, it looked to be a gathering spot for important figures in the castle.

The first Fiend to address Kath’tan had black hair and black eyes, a similar tattoo running down his left arm. His horns were in plain view, his skin a deep red.

Kath’tan ignored the Fiend and kept walking, even though the gaze of every Demon in the hall was now on him. He simply walked on, long-used to their antagonizing that it felt like nothing out of the ordinary to him.

Dulce wisely kept his gaze down, unwilling to be used as a reason to confront Kath’tan.

"Is that any way to treat your brother?" The Fiend went on, unbothered by the fact that he had been ignored.

Kath’tan kept walking, they were almost to the other side of the hall, but the Fiend didn’t back down, looking like he intended to accompany them.

"Gone for so long but you only came running after some Chaos faction Demon called for you." The Fiend’s low demonic voice was rattling.

His attention shifted to Kath’tan’s strange companion next, causing a shiver to go down Dulce’s spine despite how hot it was.

The Fiend studied him closely, walking out of the hallway with them. There were braids in his black hair, and he didn’t wear a shirt, save for the finely crafted gold band around his neck. There was a heavy gold belt around his waist, a red, velvet waist cape embroidered with gold threads was worn over black pants.
