Chapter 191: Chapter 191

Dulce stood by a window in his room, watching icy rain pelt the distant fields. It was properly winter now, the skies constantly gray. It rained more than it snowed however, causing the ground to freeze over.

Even before the advent of winter, his trips to Fairwyn were usually over in an instant because a Demon took him there, so he didn’t have to worry about the worsening weather.

He turned away from the window to get ready for dinner, the cottage was warm from the well-stoked fireplaces so there was no need to layer on clothes.

Dulce left his hair down more often than not recently, he couldn’t say why because the cold had very little effect on him. It was more an old habit he kept from before he lost his memories.

It had been very peaceful recently, all three Demons spent most of the time with him in the leisure room, it was a pleasant surprise. Even the gray landscape outside the windows looked less lonely now.

With the worsening weather, the servants opted to remain in the cottage. Dulce didn’t mind because he had pleasant company and was otherwise occupied, if not, caring for the cottage would have been the only way to keep the loneliness at bay.

The kitchens were stocked for winter but naturally, fresh produce couldn’t be stored for so long, so whenever there were clear skies, some servants went into the village to buy whatever they could get their hands on. Sometimes, they even went as far as the next town... just as they did today.

The cold rain didn’t start to fall until late in the afternoon, for most of today, the weather had been surprisingly clear. He had even managed to urge the others to go on a walk, staying in the cottage all day was dreary.

The pond had frozen over so there was no hope of fishing, it was a very thin layer of frost however, the water from the tributary still flowing into the pond.

After traipsing through the cold meadows for hours, they returned to the cottage as the first drops of rain started to fall. In time to take a hot bath and get ready for dinner.

He wore a knit sweater, it had a high neck and long sleeves that partially covered his fingers. It covered him up completely, while providing the comfort a waistcoat and overcoat couldn’t.

Dulce was the first at the table; a steaming kettle of sweet tea was brought so they could warm up, and just as he poured himself a cup, he heard footsteps.

He lifted his head up with a smile which veered off into a worried expression, "It’s cold," He reminded.

Kath’tan sauntered right over, his dark red hair was down his bare shoulders. He only wore comfortable night pants and nothing else, his upper body bare. "Hardly, the servants made me bathe in boiling water, and stoked the fireplace to an inferno."

There was a sheen of moisture on the Demon’s body, it was difficult not to take him at his word when it looked like he was sweating.

"Would you like some tea?" Dulce asked sheepishly, no longer trying to get the Demon to put on more clothes.

Kath’tan glanced down at the steaming pot of tea, his blatant disinterest clear to see. "No, thanks..."

Ruoxi made an appearance then, the Incubus was dressed as usual. Between the robes from Huayuan and the silk robes he possessed, the Demon wore little else.

Dulce hadn’t seen him in a dress shirt in weeks, but just like Kath’tan, he looked warm, the warm lighting emphasizing the golden hue of his skin.

"Would you like tea, Ruoxi?" He turned to him, while his own cup of tea sat untouched on the table.

Accustomed to heated wine, Ruoxi graciously accepted a cup of tea.

Dulce finally picked up his cooling cup of tea, drinking it down. He had begun to accept that Demons could better handle severe weather, so he was prepared to disregard Asael’s choice of outfit.

The Shadow Demon soon arrived at dinner, he wore a black dress shirt and a gray waistcoat. It was so normal that it stunned Dulce for a moment, he recovered in time, remembering to offer Asael a cup of tea.

Soon, dinner was served, a servant bustling over to add more apple wood to the hearth, earning Kath’tan’s ire. A mild fruity scent filled the room, as well as a wave of warmth, which made the cold rain all the more distant.

After dinner, Dulce was about to make his way to the leisure room only to be stopped by Kath’tan. The hand around his wrist was gentle despite the purple fire burning in the Demon’s eyes.

"It’s been a fortnight," Kath’tan reminded, his voice quiet.

They had created such a pleasant routine over the past handful of days that Dulce had momentarily forgotten about their agreement.

"I’ll retire early tonight," He said to the others, letting himself be taken to his room.

Dulce had been reluctant about feeding from Kath’tan and even now, he still thought that the Demon could find other better uses for his blood. But Kath’tan sought him out each time, so he couldn’t avoid it.

His clothes were comfortable enough so he just kicked off his slippers and got on the bed. He mostly drank from Kath’tan’s wrist and the Demon didn’t protest, no longer offering his neck.

Kath’tan slowly approached the bed, he was supposed to be in the Hells. His mother had sent him a message, but he had the messenger wait until Dulce fed.

"I’ll need to return to Ashford for a while," He said, taking in the Vampire.

Dulce was comfortably seated on his bed, silver blue eyes open as he looked up at him. "I’ll ask Asael to open a portal for you..." He said, making a move to get off the bed.

"No need," Kath’tan intercepted him, sitting at the edge of the bed. "My mother already made the arrangements."

Dulce nodded, relieved. "When will you leave?"

"Soon," Kath’tan said vaguely. He wanted to spend the night with a sleeping Dulce in his arms but he couldn’t keep the messenger waiting all night.
