Chapter 161: Chapter 161

A few days later, the first letter arrived. Dulce had only met one witch other than Miss Moira and that had been the Vampire by Aylin’s side. The Vampire witch hadn’t been able to undo his summons but perhaps she would have some useful knowledge on the matter.

Even though Dulce hadn’t even bothered to glance at the Vampire Queen’s letter before they left the royal castle in Marlen, he simply sent her a letter, requesting an audience with the Vampire witch.

Dulce scanned the letter, a frown gracing his lips. Traveling to Alderth with vampiric speed would only take a short while, it was a journey he had been prepared to make, not at all expecting Aylin to send a letter stating that she was in Dewmire for his sake.

Dulce glanced out the window of his study, it was morning, light grey clouds covering the sky. He rose to his feet to prepare to go down to the village, Aylin was already here, there was no reason not to meet with her.

He returned to his room which had only emptied out as the sun rose, getting ready for the day. The cook had been directed not to bother with breakfast as they had eaten a hearty dinner the night before, so he had a carriage arranged to take him down to the village.

The distance between the cottage and the village wasn’t very far so the journey was over in a short while, the coachman stopping in front of the only inn in the village.

He easily found her room, knocking politely on the door and waiting to be given audience.

The interior of the room was dark when the door opened, it didn’t hinder Dulce’s vision so he stepped in and politely closed the door behind him. It was a gloomy day but despite that, the sun’s strength was still enough to cause harm to Vampires.

"Thank you for taking the trouble to come all the way down here," He spoke first, still lingering at the door.

Aylin was standing a short distance away from him, a veil covering her face as usual. "It was no trouble at all..."

"Well, what is it you wanted to ask me?" Lady Mildrede asked from the bed, the Vampire witch’s scowl was hard to miss.

Dulce had been surprised to see her when he first stepped in, he hadn’t expected that Aylin would bring the Vampire witch with her. "I would like to dissolve a summoning contract." He said plainly.

Aylin’s red eyes brightened underneath her veil when she heard his words, "You’re going to be rid of all your Demons?" She blurted out.

Dulce glanced at her and then looked back to Mildrede without answering her questions. "There’s a troublesome clause in a contract I would like your knowledge about."

Mildrede’s expression soured, she seemed to be physically fighting something. Coming here wasn’t just for Aylin’s sake, it was also for her own curiosity.

Marissa, the last surviving Montesserat and the witch at the pinnacle of the world of magic had disappeared without warning one day and never returned. Some claimed she was still alive but that was a rumor that lost its credibility with each passing century.

And for the first time in nearly three millennia, she had found an unmistakable trace of Montesserat magic, it was a clue she couldn’t just ignore.

Mildrede glanced at Aylin who stared at Dulce with unabashed admiration in her eyes, exasperated. Her curious questions had to be held back because Aylin had pleaded with her, and also the curious Vampire seemed to have amnesia, so even if she asked questions, she doubted she would get answers.

"Come over here," She invited, making no move to rise from the bed. Not only had Aylin dragged her out to this village in the middle of nowhere, but she had been made to wait in this shabby inn room for hours, she was rightfully displeased.

Dulce hesitated only for a moment before stepping past Aylin. He still remembered the Vampire witch’s strange reaction to his magic, her question had held no weight, just like the rest of his lost memories, even the answer to her question was one he would find out eventually, he was in no rush.

"Draw up the contract let me take a look at it." Mildrede directed when he was standing in front of her.

Dulce furrowed his brows, at a loss. "How do I do that?" He asked in genuine confusion.

Mildrede stared at him with something akin to horror, "You... You summoned four powerful Demons without even knowing the basics of summoning magic?"

Dulce scratched his hair self-consciously, in his defense, he hadn’t quite thought that he needed proper magic to do so. He didn’t have magic, he knew that well, but summoning a Demon was something anyone could do as long as they had all the ingredients and knew how to draw a sigil.

Mildrede breathed in deeply to calm herself, the more she came into contact with Dulce’s magic, the more she was certain that he was a true Montesserat. "You do remember the clauses you drew into the sigils, do you?" She started from the very basics.

"I do," Dulce was finally able to give a positive answer.

"Good, simply envision it and the contract should appear." Mildrede directly impatiently.

Dulce had been tutored by Miss Moira a bit on knowledge about summoning magic, so Mildrede’s words were not as wonderous as they would have once been. Gold light suffused the dark room after a pause, a corporeal scroll materializing out of thin air.

Mildrede rose to her feet, her movement spry and earnest. She peered into the contract, her expression souring again as she looked at the most rudimentary contract she had ever seen. Even children could create a contract more refined than this, but it was incredibly powerful despite its shoddiness, even after getting a glimpse of the contract, she still couldn’t undo it.
