A Tale of Forgotten Gods
Chapter 126: Primordial Perfect
Chapter 126: Primordial Perfect
Mo Fei looked at the old man and gave him a slight nod before continuing. "I’d like to take this book for a while if you don’t mind."
Old Bai smiled warmly and dusted off his long, black trench coat. "You may have it as long as you want."
Mo Fei glanced at the book for a few moments before returning his gaze to the old man, turning to his white hair and the spectacle chain that descended over his shoulder. "As for the mission, can I get a few? I only have two pounds left which may not be enough for the Bloodborne Sea."
"By tomorrow morning I’ll assign a few for you. Rest then... oh, if you need any books to learn more, I will find them."
Hearing his words, Mo Fei nodded and turned back toward the gateway. ’Old Bai seems like a nice man; maybe I can get further details from him. I hope this ritual works and I return.’
He walked out of the library, taking the book away. He entered the basement pathway and walked through it and reached the exit. With a final glance around, he made sure no one was watching as he grabbed his mask from the air and pressed it over his face before walking out of the basement.
Murphy returned to his rented room in half an hour and sat down on his bed before plucking his mask out again.
Finally, Mo Fei clenched the book in his hand, his fingers brushing against the dusty surface of the old cover. He looked at the name again, ’The Primordial Prefect of Eternal Night.’ After a few seconds he opened the book.
His finger traced the page as he opened the first page, which already had the mentions of Deities.
’The great blessings of the divine, the Gods above everything. The Primordial Perfects of Eternal Night shall watch over humanity. They are Gods above Gods, the lord above lords, the never-ending night and day of the earth and heaven for blessing.’
He tilted the page without reading the next paragraph, trying to find the mention of the luck enhancement ritual.
After flipping through a few more pages, one of them caught his attention.
’The grey fog of the mysteries. Eternal realm of the lord above everything. The creator of all, the first Primordial Perfect of Eternal Night.’
His eyes darted between each word as his gaze finally locked onto the specific heading. ’The Blesser of Luck.’
’For the blessing of the Primordial Perfect, perform the divine.’
Mo Fei stood up abruptly and carefully read the necessary ingredients to perform that ritual, although the physical steps of that were entirely different from the Luck Enhancement Ritual his grandfather had given him in his past life, but he still decided to give it a try.
He walked to the small kitchen cupboard and grabbed eight cheap pieces of loaf bread. Taking a piece of white chalk from his drawer, he drew a square in the center of the house; afterward, he carefully adjusted four of the bread pieces in each direction, then put the four remaining pieces neatly in the corner of the square.
Checking the book once more, he pulled four tallow candles, placed them in the four corners of the house, then ignited them with a sudden scrap of matchstick.
He closed all the windows and covered them with a piece of cloth, then locked the door and read the next word one more time, then moved toward the east of the square to stand before it.
Finally, he clasped both of his hands together, extending the index and middle fingers of each hand to mirror the diagrams in the book, and looked at sentences in the scripture.
The final step was to chant the formal addresses written inside the book to catch the attention of one of the Primordial Perfects which were—
Mo Fei opened his mouth and spoke in a hoarse voice. "The First Primordial Perfect of Eternal Night. The Blesser of Gods. The Never-Ending Night and Day of Heaven and Earth for Blessings."
Voom!
Suddenly a heavy pressure of spiritual presence ignited throughout the whole room, turning the whole place cold and changing the flames of the candles into spectral blue.
The cosmic eyes were opening. Mo Fei gritted his teeth, forcing his trembling voice to continue the ritual. I seek guidance from the supreme entity of the enigmatic realm, the Divine ruler of the grey fog of mysteries. The singular vision of the heavens, in pursuit of understanding. I hope for your divine alignment.
The moment the last word fell from his lips, his consciousness jarred. The four ordinary candle flames stretching into the corners of his room suddenly lost their warmth and turned into a grey flame before he could even register the shift as his physical sight blurred out entirely.
His Apprentice’s Eyes flared open without his command, watching the thousands of Spirit Threads.
The peeling wallpaper and the chalk square beneath his feet melted away into nothingness. In their place, a boundless expanse of ancient grey fog rushed into the room.
It was a vision of the grey fog, which completely swallowed the sky, blocking out any trace of light. It matched the exact, eerie image he had witnessed before in the true spirit world.
Deep within the churning mist of the vision, the ancient clock began to click again.
Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
Gasp!
Mo Fei snapped out of the trance, his vision violently crashing back into the reality of his dim rented room.
He stumbled backward, crashing into the bed as his heart hammered against his ribs. He stared down at the floor as the heavy, suffocating spiritual pressure which ignited in the room, had now slowly began to recede.
The eight pieces of loaf bread turned completely dark and caught fire, and the wheat began to peel out of it, that was when he understood why the ritual demanded them. It was to transfer the corruption to them.
The ritual hadn’t brought him back to his past life, nor had it pull him into his Astral body, but the vision had confirmed his suspicion.
The grey fog was real. The white-sky spirit world he had entered during the True God’s glance was indeed an anomaly. And his grandfather’s ritual wasn’t an ordinary joke; it was intimately tied to the very first Primordial Prefect mentioned in this forbidden text.
’Could it be that World 0 was tied to rituals for Ascension?’
Mo Fei exhaled a long, shuddering breath and slowly lowered his hands and looked down, his eyes hardening with determination.
Before he could heave another sigh of relief, suddenly the blue flames of the candles rose toward the ceiling and the candles melted down, which began to burn the whole house entirely with flames.
His Apprentice’s Eyes, which were still open, looked through the flames.
Just then his eyes turned white, obscuring his vision.
His hand moved without his will and slammed him toward his bed again and grabbed his revolver before raising his hand and putting it directly on his forehead.
Mo Fei screamed, trying to stop the gun as his finger automatically began to click the trigger.
"No!!"
