A New Life in Fairy Tail
Chapter 562 - 562: This Is No Longer Just Our Problem
"Get lost! It isn't what you think!" Noah shot a vicious glare at the offending guild member, instantly shutting down the ridiculous accusation.
He turned to Brandish. "Just ignore these idiots. Let me introduce you to the Master."
Brandish, who was currently busy staring in wide-eyed awe at the chaotic, bustling atmosphere of the legendary Fairy Tail guildhall, simply nodded and followed him toward the bar.
"Brandish?!"
A sudden, incredibly shocked voice cut through the noise. Brandish turned toward the sound and saw Lucy staring at her, her jaw practically on the floor.
"You're back?! But the borders are closed! Did Noah sneak you across?!" Lucy rapidly closed the distance, her eyes darting between Brandish and Noah. She immediately connected the dots.
"Yeah. My mom and I decided to permanently relocate back to Fiore. And, thanks to Noah's recommendation, I'm here to join Fairy Tail," Brandish smiled, offering a slight wave.
"Oh my gosh, that's amazing! We can finally form a team and take quests together!" Lucy squealed, her initial shock instantly morphing into overwhelming joy. She grabbed both of Brandish's hands, bouncing excitedly.
"I'd like that," Brandish chuckled, genuinely pleased by the warm reception.
"Come on, let's get you registered right now!" Lucy declared, immediately dragging Brandish toward the bar. She was incredibly eager to officially induct her childhood friend into the guild.
Brandish allowed herself to be dragged along, a small smile playing on her lips.
As they approached the bar, Makarov leaned over the counter, squinting at Noah.
"Why are you back so soon? Did something go wrong with the scouting mission?" Makarov whispered, his expression turning serious. Noah was supposed to be deep undercover in the Western Continent right now.
"The mission is proceeding flawlessly. My main body is still in Alvarez. I'm just a Thought Projection. I temporarily separated to escort a new recruit across the border," Noah explained, gesturing toward Brandish, who was currently being aggressively hauled toward the desk by Lucy.
"Is that the girl? It looks like Lucy knows her," Makarov noted, observing their familiar interaction.
"Mhm! We've been friends since we were little! After she moved to the Western Continent, we could only see each other a few times a year. I'm so incredibly happy she's moving back here permanently and joining the guild!" Lucy explained enthusiastically as she dragged Brandish to a stop in front of the Master.
Makarov nodded slowly, understanding the connection.
"I taught her magic when she lived at the Heartfilia estate. I stopped by to check on her and her mother while scouting Alvarez. Given the current political climate over there, I strongly advised them to relocate. Brandish is a highly capable mage, so I recommended she join us," Noah added quietly to Makarov.
"I see. Your name is Brandish, correct?" Makarov asked, offering the green-haired mage a warm, grandfatherly smile.
"Y-Yes, Master," Brandish stammered slightly. She rarely interacted with large crowds, and the sheer volume of noise in the guildhall was a bit overwhelming.
"There's no need to be nervous, child. I just need to ask you a few standard questions," Makarov reassured her gently.
"Okay."
Hearing Makarov's soothing tone, Brandish's anxiety slowly faded.
Makarov proceeded to ask a series of basic, standard-procedure questions regarding her magical background and her reasons for joining. While the questions were simple, Makarov carefully scrutinized her micro-expressions and body language.
Brandish answered every question honestly and directly.
Listening to her responses, Makarov nodded in profound satisfaction.
Given Noah's personal recommendation and Lucy's eager vouching, Makarov had already intended to accept her. However, as the Guild Master, it was his absolute duty to personally verify the character of any new recruit. Under Noah's guidance, Fairy Tail's global prestige and internal benefits had skyrocketed to unprecedented levels. It was inevitable that opportunists or spies would attempt to infiltrate their ranks.
Having personally verified that Brandish was completely honest and harbored zero malicious intent, Makarov was entirely at ease.
"Since Noah has personally vouched for you, and I am satisfied with your character, I welcome you to Fairy Tail. Go find Laxus by the registration desk; he'll log your magical signature and stamp your official guild mark," Makarov announced.
"YAY! Let's go!" Lucy cheered, instantly dragging Brandish away toward Laxus's desk.
Makarov watched them leave, a warm smile on his face. Adding another reliable, talented mage to the family was always a joyous occasion.
He then turned back to the Noah clone, his expression shifting back to strict business.
"So, what is the actual situation over there?" Makarov asked quietly.
"I'm still gathering intelligence. I'm going to upload the preliminary data I collected from their local bookstores and military chatter directly into the guild's restricted Archive server. You and the First Master can review it," Noah replied, pulling up his holographic interface and initiating the data transfer.
While the data uploaded, Noah gave Makarov a brief, verbal summary of what he had observed in Alvarez so far.
Nearby, Brandish officially received her Fairy Tail stamp. The moment the ink dried, Lucy aggressively dragged her over to the request board to pick out their first mission together.
Noah noticed that Lucy deliberately bypassed the incredibly dangerous subjugation quests, instead selecting a few moderately difficult, multi-faceted requests. It was a smart move; she clearly wanted to ease Brandish into the guild's operational workflow without overwhelming her on day one.
Once they grabbed the flyers, the two girls happily sprinted out of the guildhall.
Having watched them leave, Noah finished his intelligence briefing.
"Based on what you've told me... the Alvarez Empire is vastly more dangerous than I initially feared," Makarov muttered, his brow furrowed in deep concern.
A hyper-militarized, aggressively expansionist empire that worshipped war and constantly conquered its neighbors was a terrifying threat. The fact that they had historically attempted to invade Ishgar centuries ago meant a second invasion wasn't just a possibility; it was practically guaranteed.
And as the strongest guild in Ishgar, Fairy Tail would inevitably be drawn into the conflict.
"You don't need to panic immediately. They aren't planning an invasion in the near future. As I mentioned, I scouted their primary eastern naval ports. There is absolutely zero logistical preparation for a cross-continental fleet," Noah reassured him. "As long as we continue to aggressively expand our own military strength, we won't have anything to fear when they eventually attack."
"But Noah... you said Alvarez is a centralized superpower formed by forcefully assimilating over seven hundred independent magical guilds," Makarov whispered, his voice laced with dread. "If they declare war... can we actually hold them off? Assuming we don't resort to that."
Makarov was referring to the apocalyptic tactical warheads sitting in the Fairy's armory, or the terrifying potential of Fairy Heart.
The numbers were staggering. The Alvarez Empire consisted of over 700 assimilated guilds. By comparison, the entirety of the Ishgarian continent possessed roughly 500 independent guilds.
The idea of a single guild attempting to wage war against an empire larger than their entire continent was mathematically suicidal.
"If Alvarez actually launches a full-scale invasion, they won't just target Fairy Tail. They'll target the entire continent. Subjugating Fiore and the neighboring nations perfectly aligns with their established doctrine of total conquest," Noah reasoned calmly.
"Therefore, this is no longer just our problem. It's an Ishgarian problem. The Magic Council will be forced to mobilize the entire continent's military forces to repel them, exactly like they did during the historical invasion.
"Furthermore, when magic reaches a certain threshold of absolute power, sheer numbers become completely irrelevant. A million weak mages cannot defeat a single god.
"Look at me. If an army of ten thousand average mages charged me right now, I could vaporize them all with a single, casual wave of my hand," Noah pointed out, his tone utterly devoid of arrogance, simply stating a clinical fact.
"But Alvarez is built from hundreds of guilds. They inevitably possess top-tier elites. Combine that with the Spriggan 12 and Zeref himself... their high-end combat strength is undeniably terrifying," Makarov argued.
"Then we simply have to ensure our own high-end strength surpasses theirs," Noah replied smoothly. "Based on their current lack of naval preparation, we have at least a few years before an invasion becomes logistically viable.
"A few years is an eternity for us. Look at how rapidly the guild has grown. Give them a few more years of rigorous training, and the current generation will be unimaginably stronger than they are today."
Noah turned slightly, looking out over the chaotic, vibrant guildhall.
"And honestly... give me a few more years, and I am absolutely confident I can kill Zeref. Or, at the very least, fight him to a complete standstill," Noah stated, his eyes burning with absolute conviction.
"I believe you," Makarov nodded slowly, the profound anxiety in his chest finally easing.
He had watched Noah grow for over a decade. He had seen the boy shatter the boundaries of magical theory time and time again. Noah possessed an intellect and a growth rate that simply defied logic. If Noah explicitly stated he could match the Black Wizard in a few years, Makarov believed it unconditionally.
"That covers the preliminary intelligence. I need to head back to Alvarez and resume the infiltration," Noah said, closing his Archive interface.
"Go. Stay safe. And make sure you speak to Ultear and the girls before you sever the connection. They've been incredibly worried about you," Makarov instructed.
"I will," Noah nodded.
He walked over to the secluded corner of the guildhall where Ultear, Erza, Mirajane, and Sorano had been quietly waiting. They had noticed his arrival but had deliberately stayed back to let him brief the Master.
Noah quickly recounted his incredibly brief experience in Alvarez, specifically focusing on his unexpected reunion with Brandish and Grammi.
"You were supposed to be conducting a highly classified, solo stealth infiltration... and you spent the first three days training a girl in the mountains?" Sorano deadpanned, crossing her arms.
"I've known them for years! I was always planning to check on them while I was over there," Noah defended himself with a laugh. He quickly explained how he had convinced them to flee the militarized empire and relocate to Ishgar.
"Given the constant warfare over there, bringing them back here was definitely the right call," Ultear nodded approvingly.
"Did you run into any danger at all?" Mirajane asked softly, her eyes filled with concern.
"None. I avoided all military personnel, stayed entirely off the grid, and only interacted with Aunt Grammi. It was completely safe," Noah reassured her.
"That's a relief. But if you're resuming your infiltration and heading toward the capital, you need to be incredibly careful," Erza warned, her expression dead serious. "Based on the data you just uploaded, the Empire's military is overwhelmingly powerful. If you are discovered, do not attempt to fight an entire army. Retreat immediately."
"I know. I'll prioritize stealth," Noah promised.
"I've uploaded the preliminary intelligence to the secure server. You girls can review it. I'm going to sever the connection now," Noah said.
"Stay safe," the four girls whispered in unison, their eyes filled with lingering worry.
Noah offered them a reassuring smile before his body dissolved into golden Ethernano particles, vanishing completely.
The girls stared at the empty space for a long moment, struggling to process their anxiety before finally turning away to review the intelligence data he had provided.
Back in the Western Continent.
Deep within the barren mountains outside Brandish's former city, Noah's physical body sat cross-legged on the ground inside a heavily warded concealment barrier, his eyes closed.
Suddenly, a golden blur of Ethernano materialized and smoothly merged into his chest.
Noah opened his eyes and stood up, dismissing the localized barrier.
With his Thought Projection reabsorbed, he was back at absolute, 100% capacity. It was time to resume the mission.
He pulled out the detailed map Grammi had purchased for him and pinpointed his current location. He traced a line toward his next target city and began to move.
Since he was traveling through the unpopulated wilderness, he simply calculated the distance and executed massive, sequential spatial jumps.
The closer he got to the imperial capital, the more cautious he became. He stopped using wide-area sensory sweeps, relying entirely on localized, heavily suppressed magical tracking. Even though he could flawlessly conceal his magical signature, he knew the Spriggan 12 were monsters; he wasn't going to risk a microscopic fluctuation exposing his position.
He wanted to remain completely undetected for as long as possible. Information was power, and he wanted to dissect the Empire from the shadows.
Furthermore, Noah had discovered a massive, unexpected benefit to his infiltration: the bookstores.
The Alvarez Empire possessed an incredibly rich, completely distinct history of magical theory that had never reached Ishgar due to the severed borders. As Noah infiltrated city after city, he eagerly digitized their libraries, completely immersing himself in profound, foreign magical concepts.
The thrill of discovering entirely new branches of magic was intoxicating. He absolutely refused to let the Imperial Guard interrupt his reading time.
