Chapter 1518: Chapter 1508: Too Late
Looking at Yin Manqing’s earnest gaze, Mu Yan’s feelings were extremely complicated.
After a brief silence, she said, "You know my younger brother passed away. I’m very sad. Now someone is telling me that his death has something to do with him."
Yin Manqing’s expression changed drastically. "Th-this... how is that possible."
"I don’t believe it either, but he didn’t deny it," Mu Yan said directly. "You know him. Do you think he’d do something like that?"
Yin Manqing instinctively wanted to say she didn’t believe it, but when she saw the clarity in Mu Yan’s eyes, she couldn’t get the words out.
Even if her relationship with Jing Heng was indifferent, no one knew her own son’s temperament better than she did.
"Why? Why would he do that?"
"Looks like you believe it," Mu Yan gave a light laugh. "As for the reason, you might find it ridiculous when you hear it—he wants to get rid of the people close to me so he can have me all to himself."
Yin Manqing’s expression changed again. This... this reason was just too...
But thinking of her son’s gloomy, twisted personality, she felt the reason was all too convincing.
Because of his unusual living environment, he rarely ever wanted anything. But once he set his mind on something, he was determined to get it.
If he couldn’t get it, he’d rather destroy it than let anyone else touch it.
He might never hurt Mu Yan, but that didn’t mean he’d treat the people around her kindly.
"Do you know he has serious personality issues?" Mu Yan asked.
Yin Manqing thought carefully. Jiang Jingheng was indeed much harder to get along with than other people, but back then she’d only cared about consolidating her position in the Jiang Family. She had no energy to bother with him, and even felt that he was a burden.
A trace of guilt appeared on her face. "It’s me, I haven’t been a good mother."
Mu Yan now understood why, even after Yin Manqing changed, Jiang Jingheng was still indifferent to her.
Some damage, once done, even if it heals, leaves indelible scars. Saying "I forgive you" is easy; actually doing it is far too hard.
Yin Manqing sat for a while, then got up to take her leave. "I remember you still have some shares. Not many, but I beg you—even if you don’t support Jing Heng, don’t support Jiang Wenhui."
"When is the shareholders’ meeting being held?" Mu Yan asked.
"In two days. But Jing Heng still hasn’t shown up, and I’m very worried," Yin Manqing said in a low voice. "I’m not forcing anything, but no matter what, I don’t want to hand over everything he worked so hard to build to Jiang Wenhui."
Mu Yan lowered her head, pondering, her thoughts unclear.
"I’m not trying to bad-mouth anyone, but Jiang Wenhui is deeply scheming, vicious and ruthless. She’s probably long wanted to seize everything Jing Heng has and become Shengyuan Group’s successor," Yin Manqing continued. "Isn’t your grandfather ill? I suspect she may have had a hand in that."
Mu Yan’s expression shifted slightly. She looked up at her in surprise. "How is that possible?"
"You’re too young, not experienced enough, so you don’t understand how sinister these rich families can be. Besides, a man like your grandfather—do you really think he’d get himself so worked up that he had a stroke? And all because of Jing Heng? Jing Heng has never satisfied him since he was a child," Yin Manqing said, her face set.
Mu Yan paused, then said, "But you don’t have any evidence."
Yin Manqing’s lips parted, ready to say something, but after taking one look at Mu Yan, she held the words back.
She couldn’t be sure whose side Mu Yan was on right now, so there were things she couldn’t tell her.
"I’ll be going."
Mu Yan walked her out, watched her leave, then went back inside and made a call. "How many people at the company are currently supporting Jiang Jingheng? Roughly how many shares do they hold?"
"That few? So there’s basically no chance of winning?"
"Okay, I understand."
Mu Yan hung up, her expression growing heavy. With only two days, even if she wanted to lobby those shareholders, there was no time.
As for Yin Manqing, she had just walked out of Jinxiu Villa when she was stopped by the police.
An officer came over holding his ID and said, "Ms. Yin, someone has reported you as being involved in a murder case. Please come with us."
