Chapter 1514: Chapter 1504: Illness

In the morning, after breakfast, Mu Yan went to the Jiang Family Mansion to visit the old man.

She hadn’t been back to the Jiang Family for a while, and as soon as she entered, she vaguely felt something was odd.

Several middle-aged women were sitting on the sofa in the living room, each with exquisite makeup and dressed in designer brands.

Qiu Shuyun was chatting and laughing with them, looking radiant and very smug.

The butler came downstairs, saw her, and called out, "Third Young Madam, you’ve returned."

The women in the living room immediately looked over, and Qiu Shuyun’s lips held a smug smile, with a touch of proud disdain.

Mu Yan nodded at the butler and asked, "How is Grandpa?"

"Resting in his room. He knows you’ve come to visit him; he’ll surely be happy. I’ll take you upstairs," said the butler, stepping aside to make way for her.

Mu Yan headed towards the staircase, completely ignoring the people seated in the living room.

There was a moment of silence in the living room before a socialite asked, "Was that the actress Mu Yan who just went up?"

"That’s her. Her TV dramas are really good," another socialite replied.

"I saw online that her family has significant influence in the Imperial Capital Military Department. The Jiang Family’s third son is really lucky to marry such a wealthy young lady."

Hearing this, Qiu Shuyun smiled, "You said she’s a wealthy young lady; her temper isn’t ordinary. Look, she’s causing a stir for a divorce."

"Really? That’s a big deal," the socialites exchanged glances.

"But then again, our third son is an illegitimate child; he wasn’t a match for her from the start. It’s only natural she dislikes him. Afraid of divorce, he’s simply hiding away and not even handling the company. Otherwise, the old man wouldn’t have been triggered into high blood pressure and a stroke," Qiu Shuyun sighed.

"Exactly, your Wenhui is the capable one. A young woman, yet she manages the vast Jiang family empire so orderly. Honestly, you know how to give birth."

"Indeed, Shuyun, you’ll have to rely on this daughter to enjoy your later years."

The compliments greatly pleased Qiu Shuyun, and her smile became even more content.

On the third floor, Mu Yan ran into Jiang Wenhui; she hadn’t gone to the company today.

Jiang Wenhui came forward upon seeing her, calling out, "Nuannuan, you’re here."

"Elder sister." Mu Yan nodded slightly towards her.

Jiang Wenhui looked her over for a few moments and then frowned, "It’s been a few days, you look thinner. Have you been too tired lately?"

Mu Yan smiled, "No, maybe the weather is just too hot."

She appeared listless, and these words seemed rather dismissive.

Jiang Wenhui sighed, "If you really can’t get over Jing Heng, you should have a good talk with him. I’m afraid there might be some misunderstanding between you two."

"There’s nothing to talk about; what’s needed to be said has already been made clear," Mu Yan’s expression turned slightly cold.

She glanced at Jiang Wenhui apologetically and said, "Elder sister, I’m not targeting you."

"I understand," Jiang Wenhui smiled.

"How is Grandpa now? Has he woken up?"

"He’s conscious but can’t speak or move. I’ll take you to him," Jiang Wenhui said, leading the way.

Mu Yan followed her.

In the room, the curtains were drawn, and the dim constriction imparted a chilling atmosphere.

By the bed, various instruments were on, monitoring the old man’s physical condition.

In just a few days, Mu Yan noticed that the old man was gaunt, with his cheekbones protruding, eyes half-closed, pupils cloudy, and the whole person looking lifeless, as if not long for this world.
