If it really wasn’t suitable, she wouldn’t have been with Ning Ze for so long. Mu Yan didn’t believe a word of what Qin Xi said; she thought she was hiding something from her.

She said, "If Ning Ze makes you unhappy and you can’t bear to hit him, just tell me, and I’ll have Jing Heng teach him a lesson."

"Who says I can’t bear it?" Qin Xi replied irritably, "If he dares to annoy me, I’ll make sure to thrash him."

Mu Yan covered her mouth and chuckled lightly. She claimed not to care, yet her words revealed she saw him as her own possession, not allowing any outsider to interfere.

"Alright, whatever you say. But don’t you think Ning Ze is quite pitiful now? Whatever issues you have, talk it out properly; don’t quarrel."

Qin Xi said nothing. It was because she didn’t want to fight with him that she avoided discussing certain things directly with him.

After a moment of silence, she sighed and said, "Sometimes I really envy you."

"Hmm?"

What she envied about her, Qin Xi didn’t say.

Mu Yan sat with her for a while before leaving.

Ning Ze stopped her and asked, "Sister-in-law, about Qin Xi..."

"Have you two been arguing recently?" Mu Yan asked.

Ning Ze scratched his head and said in distress, "There’s been some misunderstanding between us. I’ve explained many times, but she doesn’t seem to believe me."

"Hmm?"

Ning Ze explained, "Isn’t my brother recently going on blind dates? He didn’t want to go, so to avoid them, he went on a business trip. But an appointment had already been arranged with the girl’s side, and my mom insisted I go instead of my brother. Qin Xi heard about it and got mad at me. I really just had that one meal with that woman, and we barely spoke."

Mu Yan gave him a look, "Is that even something you can do on someone else’s behalf?"

"I had no choice; my mom pressured me. She said if I helped her with this, she wouldn’t interfere in my love life," Ning Ze said helplessly. "I really wanted to introduce Qin Xi to my parents, but last time Qin Xi suddenly canceled, and my mom was unhappy. Although my relationship doesn’t concern my mom, I know Qin Xi cares about my mom’s opinion."

Mu Yan nodded, trusting in Ning Ze’s character.

"But, in the future, try to avoid such situations. What if that girl really likes you?"

Ning Ze immediately said, "Apart from Qin Xi, I don’t like anyone else."

Mu Yan gave him a peculiar look, "I thought you had high emotional intelligence. In this regard, you’re really not as good as Brother Jiang."

Ning Ze smiled awkwardly, "Brother Jiang isn’t an ordinary person; I don’t dare compare myself to him."

But his feelings for Qin Xi were sincere.

Mu Yan said, "Even though you were helping your brother, any woman would be bothered by this kind of thing, no matter the truth."

"Yeah, I understand," Ning Ze nodded.

Mu Yan said no more. In fact, she felt Qin Xi didn’t seem like the type to get upset over such trivial matters; there must be another reason.

But Ning Ze would have to figure it out on his own.

Upon returning to the lounge, Mu Yan saw Jiang Jingheng reviewing some documents.

As soon as she sat down, he closed the files.

"Take a break," he looked up at her.

"Hmm, you should rest too."

"Alright."

Mu Yan lay down, yawning. She had stayed up too late last night and gotten up too early this morning, so she was very tired now.

When she woke again, it was nearly evening, and the person next to her was already gone.

She got up and went to see Mu Chen, only to find Luo Yao supporting him by the window, looking outside.

The setting sun bathed the whole sky in a blend of blue and purple streaked with the sunset’s afterglow, like a serene, timeless painting, and the two of them seemed to be part of it.

Mu Yan smiled knowingly, choosing not to disturb them.
