Chapter 2739: Chapter 1852: I Like This (Man, It’s So Dry These Days)
On the way to the academy, the soldiers seemed very uneasy.
Under Duanmu Huai’s high-pressure command, they had gotten used to facing zombies and eliminating them. But these terrifying presences ahead made people feel even more fearful. Especially when they saw the man’s mutilated corpse, everyone felt horrified and uneasy, unable to imagine what kind of corruption could make someone so cruelly harm their own body.
Then there were demons... There are indeed stories in mythology where demons entice humans to fall, but no one expected to encounter such things in real life.
It really feels... increasingly surreal.
Meanwhile, the demons within the city had almost vanished without a trace, and no one knew where they had gone. This also made the soldiers very uneasy, though Duanmu Huai seemed completely unconcerned. He just carried the War Hammer, striding in front.
This school is located in the west district of the city, and it’s a school for young ladies. In fact, among the survivors, there are graduates from it.
"I never thought I would return to my alma mater in this way..."
The short-haired woman’s expression was complex as she glanced around. She used to be a student at this school and, after graduation, joined a foreign company to work in finance. Although she realized that her school was unlikely to survive this disaster, transforming from a victim to the origin of the disaster was something...hard to articulate.
"I never thought these demons could be this powerful..."
Walking beside Duanmu Huai, Mary watched her notebook while shaking her head. Previously, she didn’t have a deep impression of Obsessive Sin since Duanmu Huai always believed it was a weak sissy, and everyone generally thought so too.
But when Mary witnessed its victim firsthand, she immediately changed her view of this terrifying Evil God.
Indeed, enjoying pleasure can easily lead to temptation and fall, so does walking the opposite path of suffering not lead to the same?
Duanmu Huai’s answer was — Certain, definite, and assured it would.
"This is why it’s disgusting, though not particularly strong."
Duanmu Huai walked down the street, kicking away a truck blocking his path. The truck spun like a ball in the air, crashing into the building beside them. However, Duanmu Huai didn’t even glance at it, just continued speaking.
"Emotions are the source of Obsessive Sin’s strength, and what humans yearn for is naturally the same. Although everyone enjoys pleasure, that doesn’t mean only pleasure can be corrupted. Anything that brings joy to the heart and body works the same way."
Even so, pursuing fun is the quickest way to become a believer of Obsessive Sin. Players once joked about how a human could become its follower. For example, men like beautiful women, which is normal. If they can get close to a beautiful woman, it is natural to be happy. And if close to many beautiful women, even happier.
But ultimately, there are limits.
For instance, a man having a beautiful girlfriend and spending all day doing what they love, which over time makes ordinary things lose their appeal. So they need more stimulating methods, initially changing positions or locations.
But what if those lose effect too? Then they can only seek more stimulating scenarios, like swapping partners, large group events, then it’s whips, candles, restraints... But what if these become tiresome?
Well... men should do what men should do, and don’t cling to gender so rigidly.
Similarly, race shouldn’t be so rigidly adhered to either.
Lastly, what’s the difference between inorganic and organic matter? As long as it brings pleasure, it’s fine, right?
And once all methods are exhausted and adequate joy cannot be experienced, then other means must be used. Then — Congratulations, Obsessive Sin is waving to you!
"So Mr. Duanmu, you seem to have so... little desire?"
Mary blinked, curiously staring at Duanmu Huai. To her, Duanmu Huai’s only apparent fondness was for battle. Besides that, he was essentially low-maintenance. Even with many beauties around him, he didn’t spend all day on those girls, nor did he care much about food, clothing, shelter, or transport.
"I’m simply not particularly interested. Beating enemies is a small hobby of mine."
"This hobby really isn’t very normal though."
Mary helplessly shook her head, and at that moment, Lumiaire’s voice came through the communicator.
"Great Judge, the scouting skull has reached the designated location..."
"Hmm, what about the situation?"
"That school... The situation... seems very strange."
Speaking haltingly, almost as if there was an unspeakable secret.
"Hmm? What’s the matter?"
"Well... I can only say you’d better see for yourself, it’s really hard to explain, but at least for now there’s no danger inside the school."
Saying this, an image quickly appeared on the screen inside Duanmu Huai’s helmet. Clearly, it was the full view captured by the Servo Skull hovering over the school.
From the outside, this school seems not to have been attacked at all; everything appears normal—or perhaps, too normal.
Indeed, on the school’s playground, students can be seen doing club activities, and it seems to be lunchtime. Many students are eating and chatting in the open area, while some practice musical instruments in the back of the school. The overall atmosphere resembles that of a typical afternoon at a normal school.
The only issue is this—all the students, except for shoes and ties, are wearing nothing at all.
Hey! I’ve seen this before!
Seeing this, Duanmu Huai immediately perked up; he was very familiar with this scenario, the likes of which occurs in Academy X and common sense replacement stories. The protagonist can manipulate these students as they please, and even then, they’ll remain oblivious—ah, this was something he’d only seen in animations and comics before. Who would’ve thought he’d actually witness it in reality? This is terrific!
I have to admit, compared to animations and comics, the impact of such absurd scenes in reality is much greater.
At this moment, Duanmu Huai couldn’t wait to enjoy others’ reactions.
Indeed, their reactions were quite satisfactory.
When the survivors entered the school and saw this ridiculous spectacle, they all stopped almost immediately, instinctively widening their eyes and staring in disbelief at the bizarre scene—this was far more shocking than the mass athletics meet they’d seen before.
But soon, Duanmu Huai’s voice broke through and pulled them back to reality.
"What are you thinking about? Hurry up, kill them all."
"Kill them all?"
Upon hearing Duanmu Huai’s order, the survivors momentarily raised their guns, unsure of what to do.
"But, they........."
"Haven’t you learned your lesson yet?"
"No, even though that’s the case......
This time, although everyone understood Duanmu Huai’s intent, they still looked at each other in dismay. Those infected, although having a human shape, acted crazily like madmen, making it more acceptable to attack them.
But these students, besides the bizarre attire, look like normal humans no matter how you view them......
"Wait a minute, who are you!"
At that moment, a student seemed to notice Duanmu Huai and the others. She ran over angrily, hands on her hips, staring at the group displeased.
"It’s class time, outsiders aren’t allowed in. What are so many of you trying to do here?"
"This........."
Faced with the girl’s questioning, the survivors felt a bit embarrassed. On one hand, the girl’s appearance seemed normal (though considering she wasn’t wearing clothes, it was actually quite abnormal), and on the other hand, her righteous demeanor was very sensible, unlike the bunch of crazies they’d encountered before that just wanted to pounce on you and rip your pants.
"Get lost, lowly mongrels."
However, Duanmu Huai wasn’t about to indulge her. He strode out, glaring at the girl in front of him. Seeing Duanmu Huai, the girl’s expression changed, and she trembled, wanting to back away.
"You, don’t come over, what do you want? I’ll call the police!"
"..............."
Listening to the girl’s words, the other people’s expressions were complex; after all, up to now, this girl’s behavior was almost no different from normal people, but in this environment......
"Humph!"
However, Duanmu Huai simply snorted coldly, then suddenly reached out and grabbed the girl’s head, lifting her up. Following that, he squeezed violently, and the next moment, accompanied by a "squelch," the girl’s head was crushed by Duanmu Huai, and her struggling body went limp, tossed aside ruthlessly by Duanmu Huai.
"Bang!"
The headless corpse hit the ground heavily, then rolled several times, and under the watchful eyes of the crowd, began to melt away, like a candle being lit. The youthful body gradually turned into a mix of white and yellow viscous liquid, slowly flowing on the ground, then evaporating, leaving only a stain similar to a water mark.
"Alright, now you’ve all seen it."
Duanmu Huai clapped his hands, looking at the soldiers.
"Next, it’s your job. I hope you don’t get fooled by these guys. Remember, in this school, don’t spare a single moving thing!"
