Chapter 2735: Chapter 1849: Corruption and Delirium (Hot Weather Makes Me Want to Climb a Mountain)

At the same time, other survivor groups dispersed towards the surroundings, the men whispering among each other, exchanging knowing glances and silently scattering with a smile everyone understood. As for the female soldiers, though they were speechless, they didn’t express much opinion on the matter, since those people were not ordinary infected individuals, and they knew that the societal rules and order had long since broken down in this world, so they didn’t expect these men to keep themselves in check.

Soon, a three-person squad found their way into a nearby alley, where they saw several men and women tangled together, gnawing at each other.

"Tsk, this is more thrilling than the movies."

The squad leader’s eyes sparkled as he watched this scene unfold, unable to help but remark. Meanwhile, the boy beside him blushed crimson.

"What should we do? Leader?"

"Let’s just take out those men first!"

The leader raised his laser gun as he spoke, and simultaneously, the infected individuals in their heated exchange noticed the three-person squad and turned to charge at them. However, it was futile; soon, with beams of light firing, those male infected individuals turned to charcoal. The female infected continued forward, but when the boy aimed his gun at them, he was immediately grabbed by the leader.

"Wait, don’t rush... let’s watch for a bit."

"Watch?"

As they spoke, the female infected reached the squad members and extended their hands to tightly embrace the squad leader and others.

"The scent of men... hehe..."

"I want OO... give me your OO...!"

Seeing these women clinging to them, twisting their bodies and their eyes shining, the boy stumbled back in fear, while the leader chuckled.

"Damn, these folks are quite interesting, let’s have some fun with them!"

As he spoke, the leader dropped his weapon, reached out his hand, and tore off the tattered clothes of the infected, which instead of causing them to scream, made them cling to the leader with excitement, twisting their bodies even more.

"Leader?"

Seeing this, the boy was somewhat shocked.

"What are you doing?"

"Just having some fun with these guys."

Facing the boy’s question, the leader chuckled, staring at the infected before him. The woman seemed to be an office lady, wearing a tattered suit and skirt with torn black stockings on her legs. Yet despite that, the infected still looked no different from an ordinary woman.

"What if we get infected..."

"Don’t worry, we are soldiers of the Tribunal, blessed by the Tribunal, we won’t get infected."

The leader flashed the Judgment Court Badge tattooed on the back of his right hand.

"You can join in too, just pick anyone here."

"Alright."

Another squad member agreed cheerfully and grabbed a nearby infected dressed as a nurse.

"Hey, didn’t expect you to be into this?"

"I always wanted to try this after watching videos, didn’t think it would happen here, not bad at all..."

"Heh heh heh..."

The two chatted while their hands wandered over the infected in front of them, while the boy blushed and backed away, clutching his gun.

"Is this okay? What if the Great Judge finds out..."

"The Great Judge hasn’t said anything, so it’s probably tacit approval. Hey, these guys are really into it, unlike my ex, who lay on the bed like a corpse... if she got infected, it would have been better... ugh..."

Before the leader could finish speaking, the infected pounced on him, sealing his mouth shut, to which the leader happily closed his eyes, embracing the infected tightly. It was only after a moment that he pulled back satisfied, chuckling.

"Heh heh, let me show you my..."

As he spoke, the leader opened his eyes, but the next moment, his eyes widened in horror.

Before him, no longer stood the pretty and wild woman from before; instead, a near-skeletal, mummified corpse appeared. Its desiccated skin clung to its face like bark, eyes bulging from the sockets, and its wide-open mouth had a rotting tongue flapping and spewing a foul stench...

"Aaaahhhhhh!!"

The leader screamed and jumped back, shoving the infected away and turned to his side, only to find his other companion similarly embraced by those shriveled corpses, half-closed eyes locked onto a decayed head he gnawed on with relish!

"Snap out of it!"

Without even pulling up his pants, the leader grabbed the laser gun at his side and swung it at the unlucky fellow. The latter quickly opened his eyes.

"Leader, what are you doing? Didn’t you see I—ahhh what the hell is this!!"

Another team member opened her eyes and was startled to see the infected in front of her. She kicked it away with a powerful blow. Those kicked away or pushed infected tried to rush back, but were shot dead by the two.

"Captain, save me!"

At this moment, the boy’s cries could be heard. The captain turned his head and saw the boy backing away while trying to fend off the infected trying to grab him. The captain hurriedly dashed forward and grabbed the infected, pulling them away.

The captain finally realized that as he grabbed the infected, their once smooth and fair skin began to wither and dry up. Moments later, these previously lively infected turned into dry corpses.

Of course, this exploration team didn’t give them any more chances, mercilessly shooting them into charred remains.

"Mad, what the hell is this!"

Looking at the charred corpses in front of him, the captain still appeared shaken.

"They were beautiful women before; how could they turn into this?"

By now, the boy had also regained his composure, nervously speaking.

"Maybe this is how these zombies infect... Perhaps what we’re seeing is a hallucination. If we’re infected, we’ll continue to see them like this... But we can’t be infected, so..."

"So once we make contact, we see their true form... No wonder the Great Judge didn’t mention this at all."

The captain realized why Duanmu Huai hadn’t warned them about the city’s peculiar situation, believing they were all Saints was unlikely.

Now, the captain understood; who would dare to confront such a thing!

"Alright, let’s keep moving!"

Re-adjusting his belt, the captain gritted his teeth and tightened his grip on the laser gun.

"Remember, if you see an enemy, kill them on the spot!"

With that, he gave the order, brimming with killing intent.

It was obvious that the situation faced by this search team was not an exception. The sound of gunfire soon echoed from all directions, and occasionally, the explosion of grenades could be heard—perhaps someone was enraged and decided to go all-out.

Duanmu Huai’s progress was evidently the fastest; on one hand, he didn’t concern himself with such trivialities, and on the other hand, Nemume Satori was having a blast.

Zombies merely howled, clearly not to Nemume Satori’s liking, but these noisy infected were far more amusing once sliced. Hence, Nemume Satori cheerfully walked at the front, ruthlessly slicing every man and woman that appeared, clearing the path for Duanmu Huai. Naturally, Duanmu Huai was glad to be at ease, and they continued forward until reaching the city’s center.

The nauseating subspace aura grew stronger.

Duanmu Huai’s expression remained unchanged and indifferent as he tightened his grip on the chainsaw sword. He wasn’t concerned about Obsessive Sin approaching due to game rules (though he wouldn’t mind if it did, as Duanmu Huai considered Obsessive Sin the weakest among the Four Evil Gods, and it was currently undergoing a difficult birth). However, a large number of demons might appear.

And the reason they hadn’t appeared was singular.

Duanmu Huai halted.

"Ahhhhh———!"

Suddenly, men and women partying on the square let out piercing screams that echoed throughout the city. Shortly after, an eerie scene unfolded.

The bodies of these frantic infected began to deform as if possessed by another soul. Their bodies transformed into grotesque, misshaped demons appearing before Duanmu Huai.

"Just as I thought."

Witnessing this scene, Duanmu Huai smirked coldly. He had wondered since arriving in the city why, despite the infected celebrating their victory for a hundred days, there weren’t hordes of demons joining the festivities.

Yet, the reality was that despite Duanmu Huai and his group being in the city for so long, they only saw monkeys shouting in spring, with no sign of demons.

The reason became apparent to Duanmu Huai—they intended to lure soldiers using their allure, hoping they would get infected or even take some infected back (considering apocalyptic human nature, someone wanting a few living dolls for collection wasn’t impossible).

Once taken back, they could naturally corrupt the Tribunal from within.

Unfortunately, the soldiers’ souls were already branded by the Tribunal, just like the search team members before. Even if they actively made contact with these infected, the God of Destruction’s power within them would dispel Obsessive Sin’s Illusion Magic, revealing the monsters’ true form to others.

Indeed, destruction is a valuable thing.

Now, Obsessive Sin was finally throwing a tantrum, likely sensing its tricks were useless, opting to face things head-on.

And this was precisely Duanmu Huai’s aim.

People learn more from experiences than teachings.

Duanmu Huai knew many survivors still questioned the existence of demons.

If that was the case, then let them confront demons personally!

With this thought, Duanmu Huai refocused his mind.

"Prepare to engage!"
