Chapter 2729: Chapter 1845: Emergency Assembly
For those young survivors, the days in the Tribunal are even more oppressive than they imagined. One might even say, some felt like they were better off dead.
Their daily work consisted of training, then going out to clear zombies. They discovered that in the Tribunal, all the troops were basically gender-segregated. (Note: Duanmu Huai directly adopted the Imperial Era’s Star Realm Army division system, where the troops consisted of a single gender. Players don’t know why the Empire did this, but many players quite like this method.)
After all, for female players, a troop full of handsome guys is explosively enjoyable.
And for male players, a troop full of beauties is exhilarating.
Except for Little Alice, who was too young and assigned to the stay-at-home group, everyone else was allocated to different teams. For them, everything they experienced in the Tribunal completely overturned their previous perceptions.
Until they truly entered the Tribunal, survivors realized this was the largest shelter they had ever seen. Currently, the entire Tribunal consists of nearly three hundred people, all organized into groups, tasked with going out daily to eliminate zombies and clear surrounding enemies.
The first thing that surprised them was the weapons.
The laser guns drove the military geek completely insane, as he clung to his gun, utterly unable to understand how it was even made. Not to mention the storage method for these guns was exceedingly odd—take an empty laser magazine, throw it into the fire, and once it’s "cooked," it’s ready to use.
Then there was the combat. In battle, the first thing that surprised the survivors was the soldiers’ reactions to zombies. Generally speaking, confronting zombies makes fighting difficult. After all, if a zombie bites or scratches you, you’re infected, and with no cure in sight, it’s a certain death situation.
Therefore, many people previously fought zombies hesitantly, unable to unleash their full potential.
But these Tribunal soldiers were entirely different; they didn’t care about zombie bites or scratches. That black-haired teenager saw an old soldier jump to protect others, getting attacked by a zombie and bitten on the arm. At that moment, he felt the sky was falling. He had previously witnessed companions in other shelters getting abandoned after getting bitten by zombies, thinking the same would happen here.
Yet, to the teenager’s surprise, the soldier didn’t take it seriously—he merely disinfected the wound, bandaged it, and resumed fighting. The other members of the combat group didn’t consider it a big deal either, continuing to chat and laugh as if unbothered by the possibility of the soldier turning into a vicious zombie in the next moment.
Soon after, they explained the situation to the teenager.
Under the Tribunal’s protection, they needn’t worry about getting infected by the virus.
"We also think it’s quite far-fetched, but it’s indeed true."
During a break after training, the man chatting with the teenager showed a complicated expression, but still explained.
"Many of us have been bitten, and logically speaking, we should be dead, but we’re not. As long as we wear the Sacred Badge, it seems to protect us from harm..."
Lowering his voice, the soldier continued.
"Honestly, before this world became this mess, I didn’t believe in any of that divine nonsense. If someone told me the plague was a virus spread by an Evil God and the Tribunal was sent by a Deity to fight the Devils, I’d definitely think they were con artists. But... you can’t deny this stuff really works. Though I can’t figure out why it prevents us from getting infected by the virus, it certainly does work."
"So, what is this all about?"
"I don’t know either, perhaps only the Divine Envoys of the Tribunal know the truth."
"Do you truly believe what they say?"
Looking at his companion, the teenager anxiously asked.
"Which part? You mean the story about Corrupted Foil spreading the virus, trying to turn this world into a corrupt and ugly garden, and the Tribunal being there to guard humans and eliminate Demons?"
"Yeah."
The teenager nodded. He could easily learn about this, since the shelves in the hotel originally used for travel manuals were now filled with pamphlets. These pamphlets told stories of the Evil God named Corrupted Foil, along with various demon introductions and atlases, as well as the Tribunal’s mission, rules, and methods.
If asked to evaluate, the teenager felt it didn’t resemble a religious organization’s propagandist book, but more like a game’s setting guide. He found it refreshing; before the apocalypse, the teenager had seen some preaching religious groups that invariably talked about the impending world end and how only worshipping their Deity could save one, which he considered foolish talk.
However, the Tribunal’s pamphlets lacked such content, resembling more of a game guide, with the final boss’s background setting, its means, and how we should act as "players." It even included explanations of religious symbols of the Tribunal—the intact skull symbolized human purity, the War Hammer was the Tribunal’s insignia, and the gear symbolized human civilization’s machinery. Therefore, the skull, War Hammer, and gear appeared extensively within the Tribunal.
