Chapter 63: Gathering Clues in Longjing City

"Shiyuan is right. You all change your clothes. Remember, do not say you are from Lingguang Sect. Just say you’ve come from another place to visit relatives. Ask about any unfamiliar handsome men who have arrived in Longjing City recently. That will be enough."

"Yes!"

The handsome man the fox demon had transformed into would be unparalleled under heaven.

Very few could compare.

Therefore, his arrival in Longjing City could not possibly have gone unnoticed.

In theory, with just a little inquiry, they should be able to gather quite a bit of information.

"What Master meant was that we should understand the fox demon’s habits. Perhaps, just as Master said, the fox demon truly likes beautiful women."

Uh...

Was Ye Shiyuan speaking up for him?

Ah, this was truly touching.

"Yes, that’s exactly what I meant. I just didn’t know how to phrase it properly. As expected, Shiyuan understands what this elder is thinking," Bai He coughed lightly, looking rather pleased with himself.

After hearing this, everyone felt that Bai He’s words made sense and followed his suggestion.

Before leaving, Gu He glanced at Bai He and instructed Ye Shiyuan to remain behind to protect him.

"Shiyuan, thank you just now. I only said that because I’ve read some storybooks before. They always describe fox demons as enchanting and capable of bewitching hearts."

"Storybooks?"

Would Lingguang Sect even have such things?

Most likely, Bai He had secretly slipped down the mountain to read them.

"Master likes reading storybooks."

Uh...

How should he put it?

Storybooks were probably no different from the novels he used to read in his previous life.

There was likely no essential difference.

"Storybooks are actually just like those cultivation manuals. No difference at all. No difference."

By the time Bai He finished speaking, even he felt guilty about it.

Ye Shiyuan merely smiled. Seeing how embarrassed he looked, he did not press further. "Master, shall we also go out and inquire?"

Bai He’s eyes immediately lit up.

It sounded like quite an interesting thing to do, so he agreed at once.

"Of course."

Ye Shiyuan happened to have ordinary-looking clothes in his storage ring.

After murmuring a spell, he changed both of their outfits.

Although Bai He was the master, his age and height were there for all to see, which made the situation somewhat awkward.

"Shiyuan, when we go out later, you don’t need to call me Master," Bai He thought for a moment before saying, "How about this, when we’re outside, just call me little brother. I’ll temporarily be your younger brother. What do you think?"

Ye Shiyuan was slightly startled, but he still nodded in agreement.

He slowly walked over to Bai He.

Since Bai He was a head shorter than him, he raised his hand and gently ruffled his hair.

"Then let’s go, little brother."

Bai He’s cheeks flushed red. He looked up and shot him a glare. "Have you no sense of propriety, Ye Shiyuan? I am your master."

"But it was Master who said I should temporarily be your elder brother."

Well, that was indeed what he had said.

However, Ye Shiyuan’s manner of treating him like a child made Bai He feel somewhat displeased.

For the sake of finding useful clues, he endured it.

Longjing City truly was an interesting place.

With such a massive demon hidden within it, it was astonishing that during the daytime it could still be so lively.

One could not tell whether the people were unaware or simply unafraid.

Bai He pondered for a moment, then reached out and grabbed Ye Shiyuan’s hand. "Come."

"Where are we going?"

"Just follow me, my dear... brother."

Bai He deliberately called him "brother" in an exaggeratedly sweet and almost nauseating tone.

Ye Shiyuan shook his head helplessly with a smile and followed Bai He into a storytelling house.

The place was crowded today, with only a few empty seats remaining.

Bai He and Ye Shiyuan did not go upstairs to a private room.

Instead, they sat among the crowd and quietly listened to the storyteller, a man past fifty, as he told his tale.

At first, Bai He found it somewhat difficult to get used to, but as he continued listening, he found it rather interesting.

Someone could not help but interrupt. "Hey, just how handsome was that scholar to make the young lady of a wealthy family pledge herself to him?"

"Exactly! No money, no power, living in nothing but a thatched hut. If he weren’t peerlessly handsome, how could that young lady possibly fancy him?"

"In my opinion, he’s not even as good-looking as the live-in son-in-law of the Hua family."

The crowd chimed in one after another and eventually burst into laughter.

It was lively, though not overly chaotic.

Bai He did not remain idle; he listened quietly along with them.

"What live-in son-in-law of the Hua family? I’m sure he’s not as handsome as my brother."

Every time Bai He looked at Ye Shiyuan’s face, he felt a sense of astonishment.

When the original author had designed the male protagonist’s appearance, it had truly been exceptional.

Ye Shiyuan met his gaze. "Little brother, don’t forget our main task."

Right. The main task.

Bai He withdrew his gaze.

"Didn’t you say before that demons are all extremely good-looking? Perhaps the live-in son-in-law of the Hua family they’re talking about might have something to do with that fox demon."

Ye Shiyuan nodded. "Then shall we go take a look?"

Bai He nodded as well.

They had been sitting there for quite some time and this was the only useful piece of information they had found.

Just as the two of them were thinking about how to make their way to the Hua residence, they faintly overheard someone saying that the Hua family’s young lady had fallen ill and that they were offering a heavy reward to find a miracle doctor.

A miracle doctor?

At once, an idea formed in Bai He’s mind.

After leaving, Bai He quickly found the notice posted by the Hua family.
