Chapter 268: The Handsome Man of the Ghost Race

  • Next Chapter

Bai He acknowledged this inwardly.

He understood.

After crossing the boundary and walking for only a short distance, they soon saw two figures appear and block their path.

Like the ghost race member Bai He had seen before, these two were dark skinned and covered with distinctive ghost race markings across their bodies and faces.

The difference was that they were not short and hunched over like that previous individual.

"Who are you people? Don’t you know this is the territory of the ghost race? Are you tired of living?"

Their fierce and menacing appearance really was...

Xu Feng stepped in front of Bai He.

"My master is..."

Before Xu Feng could even finish speaking, the two figures vanished from in front of him in a puff of smoke.

"Master, what happened to them?"

This was a little too strange.

Bai He gave a light cough.

"You’re a member of the Nightwatchers Tribe. They probably sensed the frightening aura coming from you, so they ran away."

"Their courage is way too small."

It was not that they lacked courage.

On the contrary, members of the ghost race were generally quite bold.

This was simply bloodline suppression.

Bai He felt that bringing Xu Feng along had definitely been the right decision.

It had already saved him a great deal of trouble.

"Master, if you’re scared, just stay behind me. I’ll protect you."

Bai He rolled his eyes at Xu Feng.

Seriously, in their minds, just how useless did they think he was?

Xu Feng walked in front while Bai He followed behind.

Sure enough, it was not long before the two people who had fled earlier returned.

This time, however, they had brought quite a few others with them.

In an instant, Bai He and Xu Feng found themselves completely surrounded.

The man leading the group was clearly no ordinary person judging by his clothing alone.

Even through the strange features characteristic of the ghost race, one could vaguely make out a certain heroic bearing.

The others all showed traces of fear after sensing the aura of a member of the Nightwatchers Tribe.

Even though they remained where they were, nervousness could still be seen on their faces.

But this man did not.

Whether he was simply hiding it well or for some other reason, Bai He could not tell.

At the very least, he could not see the slightest trace of fear in the man’s eyes.

"For what purpose have the two of you come here?"

Bai He took out his token.

"I would like to ask you several questions. I hope you will answer them truthfully, one by one."

Although not everyone would necessarily recognize Bai He’s token, it was enough that the man before him did.

From the change in his expression alone, it was already obvious that he recognized it.

Beneath that inscrutable expression, the man slowly walked over to Bai He.

"From the Lingguang Sect? A Lingguang Sect elder?"

Bai He openly acknowledged his identity.

"That’s right."

"Even if you are an elder of the Lingguang Sect, why have you come to the territory of the ghost race? Have you not already enjoyed oppressing the ghost race enough? Will you only be satisfied after wiping us out completely?"

There was resentment in their hearts.

Because of Bai He’s status, and because of Xu Feng’s presence, they did not dare make a move against them.

"If you people behaved yourselves, who would come to a place like this for no reason? Naturally, it is because we encountered a member of the ghost race elsewhere."

Gui Baorong narrowed his eyes.

Members of the ghost race were already few in number.

Aside from this territory, there were practically none elsewhere.

Their population was known with great precision.

Bai He was claiming that he had encountered a member of the ghost race outside.

That was almost impossible.

Yet since Bai He had said it, Gui Baorong had no choice but to take the matter seriously.

After everything that had happened in the past, the ghost race was already barely surviving.

It was not as though there were no people who wished to eradicate them completely.

If the actions of one or two individuals brought disaster upon the entire race, the loss would far outweigh any gain.

"I am an elder of the Lingguang Sect, and my disciple is a member of the Nightwatchers Tribe. Naturally, we would not mistake a ghost race member for anything else."

When Xu Feng heard Bai He say this, he could not help but sigh inwardly.

The truth was that he had not actually seen the ghost race member Bai He was referring to at all.

Still, Bai He would never joke about a matter like this.

"If that is the case, then I will accompany you. If the person truly belongs to my race, I certainly will not let him off."

Unexpectedly, Gui Baorong turned out to be quite reasonable.

"Host, Gui Baorong is also thinking about the future of his people. If he offends the Lingguang Sect or offends Xu Feng of the Nightwatchers Tribe, the ghost race will truly gain nothing and will only fall back into danger once again."

Gui Baorong had no choice but to cooperate and speak reasonably.

Going there and returning would not take long.

In total, the entire journey amounted to less than an hour.

On the way back, Bai He looked at Gui Baorong, who was walking beside him, and could not help but speak.

"Looking like that isn’t going to work."

"What’s wrong with me?"

"What Master means is that you’re too ugly. You’ll scare people."

Xu Feng was truly direct to a degree that left Bai He feeling utterly embarrassed.

However, Gui Baorong clearly disagreed.

Instead, he wore an extremely self admiring expression and declared proudly, "That’s complete nonsense. I am the number one handsome man the ghost race has produced in the last hundred years."

"You? Handsome?"

Bai He was speechless.

Why was Xu Feng capable of striking up a conversation with absolutely anyone?
