Chapter 86: Chapter 86: A Man Should Protect His Woman
"You’re my wife, they can look if they want." Lu Feng said without any concern, carrying Fu Xiaoxiao as he burst into Xu Yan’s office.
Xu Yan was reading a newspaper when the door was suddenly kicked open, startling him.
"What are you doing? Scaring people so early in the morning." Xu Yan put away the newspaper and looked up to see Fu Xiaoxiao being carried in by Lu Feng, raising an eyebrow.
Surely they’re not here so early just to flaunt their affection?
"Have her checked; she got hurt." There was a hint of worry hidden in Lu Feng’s cold tone.
Xu Yan asked Lu Feng to put Fu Xiaoxiao down. "Where’s the injury?"
Fu Xiaoxiao lifted her arm and pulled up her shirt. Xu Yan saw the large bruise and looked at Lu Feng. "You didn’t abuse your wife, did you?"
Lu Feng rolled his eyes at him.
Fu Xiaoxiao laughed as she explained, "No, it’s that I blocked a blow from a carrying pole earlier. I’m fine, just a bruise. Lu Feng couldn’t stop worrying and insisted on taking me to the hospital."
"Hurt like this and you say it’s nothing? How much have you suffered before?" Xu Yan looked at the large bruise, with Fu Xiaoxiao still acting as if nothing was wrong.
Either she’s had worse injuries before, or... she’s used to getting hurt often.
Lu Feng’s eyes turned fierce as he thought of the Fu Family. They had no qualms about kicking Fu Xiaoxiao out of the house; it’s clear she couldn’t have had a good life there.
The more she acted like nothing was wrong, the more it tugged at the heart.
"If it hurts, just cry out. With a bruise like that, how can it not hurt?" Xu Yan thought Fu Xiaoxiao was just acting tough. He reached out to press the injury, but before Fu Xiaoxiao could say anything, Lu Feng’s face darkened with anger.
"You’re pressing too hard on her." Lu Feng grabbed Xu Yan’s hand, stopping him from pressing Fu Xiaoxiao’s injury.
Fu Xiaoxiao chuckled. She hadn’t even cried out in pain, yet he already knew she was hurting?
Though it ached a bit, she could still bear it.
Xu Yan glared at Lu Feng. "How can I know if her bone’s broken without touching?"
"...Be gentle!" Lu Feng pursed his lips, knowing Xu Yan wasn’t wrong, but he still had to remind him to be gentle.
Xu Yan felt the bone, seeing Fu Xiaoxiao grimace, and was about to get another sharp look from Lu Feng.
"Fortunately, no bone damage. I have some medicinal liquor here; massaging it with that will speed up the recovery. But it’s going to hurt a bit while pressing it." Xu Yan disregarded Lu Feng and looked at Fu Xiaoxiao.
"Please prescribe the medicinal liquor for me!" Fu Xiaoxiao smiled at Xu Yan.
"Sure." Xu Yan got up and took a bottle of medicinal liquor from his small cabinet.
"Give me your arm, and I’ll rub it now." Xu Yan prepared to pour some of the medicinal liquor into his hand for a rub, but the bottle vanished from his hand suddenly.
"His hands are heavy; I’ll do it when we get back." Lu Feng pursed his lips. Knowing how heavy-handed Xu Yan was, he decided to personally attend to Fu Xiaoxiao’s massage, not wanting her to endure the pain.
Xu Yan twitched his mouth, seeing this side of Lu Feng for the first time.
"He’s said it, so let him do it!" Xu Yan shot a disdainful glance at Lu Feng. Prioritizing love over friendship.
He’d never seen him being so considerate before and even complained about his heavy hands.
Tsk.
"Thank you." Fu Xiaoxiao got up with Lu Feng, nodding towards Xu Yan.
As Fu Xiaoxiao was about to step out, she realized she was lifted off the ground again.
People passing by in the hospital gave suggestive smiles at the couple’s affection.
"It’s my arm that’s injured, not my legs." Fu Xiaoxiao wanted to bury herself; such a minor injury yet she was being carried and watched.
"Just stay still, it’s not that far." Lu Feng shook his head, taking Fu Xiaoxiao back to the car, driving straight to the doorstep.
Wang Lu and Lu Chen hadn’t returned yet. Fu Cheng was at home playing with the wolf cub. Seeing Fu Xiaoxiao return, he was about to say he was hungry, but paused on seeing Lu Feng carefully escorting Fu Xiaoxiao inside.
Fu Cheng instantly smelled the medicinal liquor, raising an eyebrow at Fu Xiaoxiao. "You’re hurt?"
"It’s nothing, just a minor injury." Fu Xiaoxiao answered bashfully.
"Useless." Fu Cheng’s gaze fell on Lu Feng, mockingly. "Can’t even protect your own woman."
"..." Lu Feng was at a loss for words hearing that.
Indeed, if he had arrived earlier, Fu Xiaoxiao wouldn’t have been injured.
"It’s not his fault..." Fu Xiaoxiao, exasperated, wanted to explain for Lu Feng.
"You are... his woman... protecting one’s woman... is a man’s duty, getting injured... is his fault." Rare for Fu Cheng to say so much, his gaze was full of scorn for Lu Feng.
"It’s my fault." Lu Feng uncharacteristically didn’t argue back, too busy blaming himself.
Watching Lu Feng and Fu Cheng agree on this matter was rare for Fu Xiaoxiao.
"Sit." Lu Feng helped Fu Xiaoxiao sit down, carefully lifting her shirt, revealing the bruise.
Fu Xiaoxiao looked at the swollen redness, the bruise darker than before, turning purple.
Seeing Fu Xiaoxiao’s wound, Fu Cheng’s mouth twisted into a dissatisfied line.
She was the friend of his wife, even cooked for him; she was considered one of his own.
"Who injured you? I’ll find him!" Fu Cheng protectively declared.
"The person is in the army now, don’t worry, I won’t let him off!" Lu Feng recalled Old Li, filled with resolve; he wouldn’t let him go easily.
Fu Cheng sneered lightly, clearly thinking Fu Xiaoxiao was a pushover for staying with Lu Feng.
"Bear with it, we’ve got to dispel the stagnant blood." Lu Feng poured the medicinal liquor into his palm, warming it up, and looked at Fu Xiaoxiao, reminding her.
"Go ahead." Fu Xiaoxiao nodded, Lu Feng then gently placed his hand on the bruised area, starting to massage.
Fu Xiaoxiao frowned instantly; it did hurt as he massaged it.
"Am I pressing too hard?" Noticing Fu Xiaoxiao’s frown, Lu Feng stopped immediately.
"It’s fine, keep going, I can handle it." Fu Xiaoxiao encouraged Lu Feng, signaling him to continue dispelling it.
This type of bruise will heal much faster if the stagnant blood is dispelled.
If not, it would take at least ten days to half a month to fade.
"Then... bear with it," Lu Feng gently continued to massage the bruise out.
"Done." After half an hour of massaging, Fu Xiaoxiao’s forehead was covered in fine sweat, smiling slightly at Lu Feng.
Lu Feng, seeing her like this, felt she was pretending to be strong, which made him feel even more guilt.
Fu Xiaoxiao felt her arm was warm, and a breeze brought a cool sensation, knowing the medicinal liquor was working, smiled as she shook her arm. "It really does feel much better."
"Mom!" Wang Lu came home with Lu Chen, and seeing Fu Xiaoxiao, Lu Chen couldn’t hold back his tears, rushing to Fu Xiaoxiao and hugging her tightly.
"I’m okay, stop crying!" Fu Xiaoxiao squatted down and wiped the tears off Lu Chen’s face.
"But... your arm..." Lu Chen couldn’t stop crying, looking at the large bruise on Fu Xiaoxiao’s arm, hugging her tightly. "It’s all my fault, I couldn’t protect Mom."
"How can it be your fault! It’s that person’s fault." Fu Xiaoxiao quickly said, to prevent Lu Chen from feeling guilty and dwelling on it.
