Chapter 62: Chapter 62: Peacock Xu Yan

Hearing Fu Xiaoxiao’s sincere praise, Lin Qiu smiled shyly.

Both of them loved cooking, and the feeling of being genuinely praised for their culinary skills was something they really couldn’t resist.

"When there’s a chance in the future, I’ll definitely help you open a pastry shop, showcasing your skills to everyone, and letting them see that women are not inferior to men." Fu Xiaoxiao held Lin Qiu’s hand and spoke earnestly.

"Don’t say things like that; it’s not right to speculate." Lin Qiu quickly covered Fu Xiaoxiao’s mouth, as private transactions were a tight issue now; if overheard, it could be serious.

Fu Xiaoxiao nodded with a gentle laugh. Things were indeed strict now, but in two years, when everything cleared up, she’d bring it up again.

"Okay, I won’t say it, but just because it’s not possible now doesn’t mean it won’t be in the future. For the country to develop, it needs the economy." Fu Xiaoxiao spoke earnestly to Lin Qiu. "I believe our country will definitely get better."

"Your aspirations are really great, unlike me, I can only do housework; such important national matters are beyond me." Lin Qiu looked at the glowing Fu Xiaoxiao; her vitality was so full of life, it seemed as though nothing was an issue in her eyes.

Like sunshine, being by her side, one would feel warmly embraced by her presence.

"You’re great too! How is doing housework not a skill? Besides, your craftsmanship is also very impressive!" Fu Xiaoxiao shook her head, giving Lin Qiu the firmest affirmation.

Her skills, twenty years down the line, would surely make her a national craft inheritor.

She should be protected, but instead, she was kept at home, wasting away for so many years, treated like a maid.

Lin Qiu shook her head at Fu Xiaoxiao. "If only I had a personality like yours."

"I like myself too because that’s who I am." Fu Xiaoxiao smiled confidently.

Lin Qiu was taken aback. Generally, people would respond modestly, but no one had ever readily accepted it like Fu Xiaoxiao did.

However... Lin Qiu found Fu Xiaoxiao even more charming for it.

Her confidence wasn’t sharp; rather, it made her seem like she was meant to be this way, sunny and full of allure.

"Isn’t it somewhat shameless?" Seeing Lin Qiu continuously staring at her, Fu Xiaoxiao felt a bit embarrassed instead.

"No, I really envy you being like this. I can’t be as confident as you." Lin Qiu shook her head, her eyes filled with envy.

"No worries, people say smiles are contagious. Come hang out with me more often, and I’ll infect you with confidence." Fu Xiaoxiao said to Lin Qiu with a smile.

"Sure." Lin Qiu readily agreed.

Xu Yan entered Lu Feng’s room and saw Lu Feng, who was reading, immediately straighten up. Upon seeing it was him, Lu Feng gave him a cold glance and looked away.

"Wow, this attitude is a bit too much. I came by to see you with good intentions, and you’re this cold?" Xu Yan smirked roguishly, walking up to Lu Feng.

"Is it because I’m not Mr. Fu, so you’re disappointed?" Xu Yan teased Lu Feng.

"Spit it out if you’ve got something to say." Lu Feng replied coldly, without even lifting his head.

"With that attitude, how did you manage to coax your little wife into living with you?" Xu Yan, unfazed by Lu Feng’s demeanor, was long accustomed to his stubborn ways over the years.

"...If there’s something, just say it." Lu Feng snorted coldly, managing as he did.

"Okay, okay, I won’t nag. The commander asked me to come and check on your condition, see how well you’ve recovered!" Xu Yan put away his playful smile and seriously examined Lu Feng’s health.

"Do you still feel dizzy?" Xu Yan looked at Lu Feng, helping him up from the bed, swaying his body as he asked.

"I stopped feeling dizzy a while ago." Lu Feng honestly replied, giving Xu Yan a glance.

"What did you grow up eating? We’re all human, but how do you recover so quickly!" Xu Yan looked at Lu Feng like he was a monster; despite knowing Lu Feng’s rapid recovery, he was still amazed over the years.

What others needed seven days to recover from, he returned to normal in less than half the time.

"What else did the commander say?" Lu Feng raised an eyebrow, knowing the commander wouldn’t simply ask him to come check on his recovery.

"Alright, alright, I’ll tell you straight up!" Xu Yan feigned secrecy. "The commander said you should hurry and win over your wife; such a good woman shouldn’t be kept waiting."

"...If you don’t tell the truth, I’ll add three hours of training." Lu Feng rolled his eyes at Xu Yan, knowing the commander wouldn’t say such things.

"Your condition isn’t great; you can’t get out of bed for now, and you’ll need another week of rest," Xu Yan said seriously, then leaned closer to Lu Feng’s ear, in a voice only audible to the two of them, "Tomorrow night, assume the secret mission."

"Considering you’re now married, I’d personally suggest informing Mr. Fu." Xu Yan advised Lu Feng.

"Got it." Lu Feng nodded lightly, unsurprised.

"Then I’ll take my leave." Seeing Lu Feng was alright, Xu Yan waved and turned to leave.

Just as he reached the courtyard, he heard laughter. Looking up, he saw Fu Xiaoxiao happily chatting with another woman.

Upon seeing the woman, Xu Yan felt like he was done for.

Sunlight poured down; she was wearing a deep blue long dress, quietly sitting on a chair, softly conversing with Fu Xiaoxiao beside her. The breeze gently brushed her hair onto her fair cheeks, unnoticed by her as she focused intently on Fu Xiaoxiao’s words, occasionally laughing in response.

That gentle smile, her eyes glimmering with lively light, continued sharing bits of warmth from life with Fu Xiaoxiao, her laughter like the tinkling of silver bells.

After so many years with the Liu Family, Lin Qiu was very sensitive to being watched and quickly looked up, meeting Xu Yan’s gaze. Seeing the unfamiliar man, Lin Qiu visibly panicked, hiding behind Fu Xiaoxiao.

"Hello! Sorry to disturb you. I’m Xu Yan, a field doctor." Xu Yan approached Lin Qiu and Fu Xiaoxiao, showing them a confident smile.

Normally, as soon as they heard about his profession, women would be impressed.

Unfortunately, Xu Yan miscalculated this time; Fu Xiaoxiao had no reaction, and Lin Qiu just looked at him timidly.

"Oh, hello, Doctor Xu." Fu Xiaoxiao raised an eyebrow, giving Xu Yan a once-over, as if he were a peacock suddenly spreading its feathers, glowing all over.

However, she was never attracted to such flashy men.

"Y-yes, hello." With Fu Xiaoxiao speaking first, Lin Qiu followed suit, but her impression of Xu Yan was not as enthusiastic as he had hoped.

"...Did I scare you?" Xu Yan was experiencing such a cold reception for the first time, completely different from the usual warmth, and it was even a bit awkward.

He figured it was because he had spoken up suddenly and startled them, causing such a reaction.

Unaware that neither woman was interested in him.
