Chapter 127: Chapter 127: Liu Mei’s Letter

The Fu Family is asking around about Fu Xiaoxiao’s whereabouts. Given Lu Feng’s special identity, naturally, no one would inform Mr. Fu, but someone did tell Lu Feng, who relayed the message to Fu Xiaoxiao once he got home.

"You said the Fu Family is asking around about me?" Fu Xiaoxiao furrowed her brow upon hearing Lu Feng’s words.

"Do they have any intentions regarding you?" Lu Feng glanced at Fu Xiaoxiao. He knew Fu Xiaoxiao had severed ties with the Fu Family, and the Fu Family had explicitly told Fu Xiaoxiao she was not their biological child.

Now, asking around about Fu Xiaoxiao seemed incredibly suspicious.

"Whatever their intentions, it seems they found out I didn’t go to the countryside. The community knows I married you. They likely learned from there that I married a military man. Given Fu Xiaocui’s personality, she definitely can’t stand seeing me live better than her." Fu Xiaoxiao recalled the nature of the Fu Family. Although the original owner lived with them for many years, they still guarded against her and treated her like a servant.

The Fu Family seeking her out couldn’t be good news.

"Likely, they don’t want me to live too well. It’s a common ugly mindset—unable to tolerate someone who once was beneath them doing better. Fu Xiaocui always tried to one-up me; how could she stand seeing me succeed?" Fu Xiaoxiao sneered, and Lu Feng compassionately stepped forward to gently hold Fu Xiaoxiao’s hand.

"You’re not alone, you have us." Lu Feng said seriously, noticing the coldness in Fu Xiaoxiao’s eyes. For a moment, he felt as if nothing could penetrate her heart.

"Hmm." Fu Xiaoxiao hesitated, looking at Lu Feng holding her hand, unwilling to let go. "You... release me. This isn’t a reason for you to be a rogue with me."

"We’re married, with a certificate; I’m legal and justified." Lu Feng relaxed upon seeing her smile, stepping forward to wrap Fu Xiaoxiao in his embrace.

"Xiao Xiao..."

Fu Xiaoxiao didn’t expect Lu Feng to suddenly get close; his presence enveloped her, and his pheromones made her cheeks flush, her heart racing.

Clearly hearing the sound of her own heartbeat.

Lu Feng’s eyes lit up, seeing her embarrassed demeanor; it felt as if a feather brushed his heart, tickling, and a sense of joy spread inside him.

That clueless demeanor was so adorably tight.

"You... you can’t use your charms! That’s against the rules." With a flushed face, Fu Xiaoxiao pushed Lu Feng away, seizing the moment of his daze to escape.

Lu Feng watched her run away in a charming hurry, feeling joyful laughter resonate in his chest.

Lu Feng changed strategies, deciding not to boil the frog in warm water but to let Fu Xiaoxiao get used to his presence, even if just a little. Initially, Fu Xiaoxiao would be wary, and he would immediately back off, allowing her time to adapt.

Observing Fu Cheng and Lin Qiu taking steps ahead, he couldn’t remain in the same place. In the military, he specially asked everyone who had married about this and reached one conclusion.

If you want your wife, you can’t care too much about face.

Lu Feng felt that while this advice was crude, it seemed to have merit. He waited for Fu Xiaoxiao to accept him, but daily he went to military training, and Fu Xiaoxiao stayed home with Lu Chen, delivering meals to Lu Lin. Day in and day out, a month passed without any progress.

Delaying further, when would he be able to hold the beauty in his arms?

Even Xu Yan fearlessly mocked him, stating that despite chasing a wife for a month, he hadn’t even held her hand.

Lu Chen hopped around the yard, a little wolf cub mimicking him, jumping and bouncing. Fu Xiaoxiao watched Lu Chen; little Lu Chen was now showing the true liveliness a child should have.

She tossed the dried vegetable leaves into the wild rabbit’s nest; the once little wild rabbits were now all grown.

"Can they go into the pot now?" Lu Feng approached Fu Xiaoxiao, staring at the chubby rabbit.

Having been raised for so long, not only was the little wolf cub ready, but even this big fat rabbit was due for the pot.

"... Rabbits are so cute, you actually..." Fu Xiaoxiao’s eyes widened, incredulous as she looked at Lu Feng, then switched tones. "Spicy or braised?"

Lu Feng laughed, seeing Fu Xiaoxiao share his sentiment, his smile deepening. "Spicy, perhaps?"

"That’s decided then." Fu Xiaoxiao chuckled, though facing the fluffy little fellow, she hesitated, her gaze inadvertently shifting to Lu Feng.

"... I’ll do it." Seeing her seeking help, Lu Feng rolled up his sleeves, picked up the rabbit, and headed into the kitchen.

Fu Xiaoxiao smiled happily. A man with a keen insight is indeed the most handsome.

Habit truly is a terrifying thing; Fu Xiaoxiao never thought anything could change her habits.

Yet ever since Lu Feng reduced his missions, allowing her to see him daily, Fu Xiaoxiao initially felt uneasy but later discovered whenever Lu Feng was home, hot water was ready in the morning, the courtyard was clean, the tank always had water, and the stove’s firewood seemed endless.

She spent each day with Lu Chen, finding time to stroll to the back mountain, pick some wild mushrooms, or ride her bicycle to deliver meals to Lu Lin. Free moments allowed her to practice calligraphy, surprisingly never feeling tired.

The distance between him and her slowly closed, from nodding acquaintances to him trying to stir her emotions regularly, albeit without any tangible intimate actions; yet... over time, she started to look forward to his closeness.

Standing by the kitchen door, watching the bloody scene of skinning, Fu Xiaoxiao felt herself developing a romantic infatuation, finding the neat-skinned man irresistibly charming.

Fu Xiaoxiao shook her head, slowly retreating.

"Sister-in-law, there’s a letter for you." Suddenly, someone pushed the door open and entered. Fu Xiaoxiao paused, stepping forward to take her letter.

"Thank you! It’s kind of you to deliver it specially." Fu Xiaoxiao smiled at Wang Lu.

"Don’t mention it, sister-in-law, just a casual thing. Is Lu Tuan in?" Wang Lu waved his hand with a grin.

"He’s in the kitchen!" Fu Xiaoxiao pointed toward the kitchen, and Wang Lu nodded before heading inside.

Fu Xiaoxiao looked at the letter in her hand—who would write to her, and who would know her address?

Flipping the envelope, Fu Xiaoxiao noted the community office’s address, raising her curiosity further.

Opening the letter, it was from a female comrade named Liu Mei.

"Hello Fu Xiaoxiao, I apologize for suddenly writing to you. I am Liu Mei from the community office. There’s something I feel necessary to tell you—your father..." Liu Mei informed Fu Xiaoxiao about the Fu Family’s search using a letter.

Fu Xiaoxiao read Liu Mei’s letter, warmly detailing Mr. Fu’s inquiries about her address, and reminding her to be cautious of her sister, Fu Xiaocui. She developed a positive impression of Liu Mei.

She didn’t have to intervene, yet she wrote to warn her. She likely gleaned some information from the Fu Family, information evidently unfavorable to her.
