Chapter 427: Chapter 385: A Day at North Star

"Hey, look! Who’s that with Lecturer Jingyi?"

"Where?"

"I see them! From the back, it looks like a man!"

At North Star Psychic Power Development Academy, some students who were outside saw Shi Jingyi walking toward the main gate.

A man was with her, which took the students by surprise. Many had tried to find out if Shi Jingyi had a boyfriend, but they had all come up empty.

The students knew she wasn’t particularly close with the other academy teachers and would usually leave right after class. They never expected to see her leaving the academy with a man—this was a first.

"Wait a minute..."

One student stared at the man’s back, then suddenly slapped his forehead.

"Isn’t that Mr. Guan—Guan Tong!"

"Mr. Guan? For real?"

"I think it is. No wonder his build looked a little familiar..."

"Mr. Guan is back at the academy??"

The news that Guan Tong had appeared at the academy and was leaving with Shi Jingyi spread like wildfire.

Many students were excited when they heard. Although Guan Tong hadn’t taught for long, he had genuinely helped many of them, allowing them to make significant progress.

After leaving the academy, Guan Tong’s whereabouts became unknown; no one at the academy knew where he had gone. His reappearance was now causing a small stir.

As for his relationship with Shi Jingyi, not many people discussed it. The students already knew they were acquainted from when Guan Tong had substituted for her class; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to substitute in the first place.

The students were more curious about what Guan Tong’s appearance meant. Could he be coming back to teach?

BZZT. BZZT.

In the small courtyard, Shi Jingyi glanced at a new message on her phone and said to Guan Tong, "The first two times, it was the teachers. This time, it’s Dean Zhou Qinfeng, asking me about you. It seems you handled your interpersonal relationships quite well during your brief teaching stint last year."

"Interpersonal relationships..."

Guan Tong didn’t recall "handling" them well, but he had at least been diligent during those few months, never once arriving late or leaving early.

"One of the teachers asked me if you have any plans to teach now that you’re back." Shi Jingyi then asked for herself, "Do you?"

Guan Tong shook his head. "No, I have a lot to take care of this time."

"So busy, and right after things in Sisiya just ended? You were also badly injured fighting Lucifer. Aren’t you going to give yourself a few days off to rest?"

"Didn’t I rest for two days after getting hurt? I’m already back to full health."

"..."

Shi Jingyi’s phone vibrated again. She set it aside, went into the room to get two meditation cushions, and tossed one to Guan Tong.

"Here. We can talk while we meditate."

"Oh."

The two of them sat cross-legged on the cushions. Compared to Sisiya, the outdoor temperature in North Star was a little higher, so it didn’t feel cold sitting in the courtyard.

"Right now, I’m 11 points away from breaking the 1,000-point Psychic Power limit," Guan Tong said. "Do you think I can raise it with that method of yours, through some crash training over the next few days?"

Shi Jingyi placed her hands on her knees and said with her eyes closed, "It’s unlikely, but we can try. With your aptitude, you should be able to master ’Condensation’ quickly."

"How difficult is this ’Condensation’ compared to the Mind Martial Technique you used before?"

"Condensation, of course. Mind Martial Technique only requires coordinating the Psychic Power output in the area where you’re exerting force. Condensation involves the entire body."

"...I see."

He still hadn’t even learned those two Mind Martial Techniques of Shi Jingyi’s. He had tried a few times in private, but the knack was hard to find.

Shi Jingyi had been practicing martial arts since she was a few years old and subconsciously overlooked many of the details. But for someone who had never been exposed to martial arts before, those same details could be frustrating enough to make one’s mentality collapse.

It wasn’t that Shi Jingyi didn’t know this. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have previously suggested that Guan Tong stay for a while so she could teach him hands-on, which would be faster and easier.

"I also hope you break through soon. Then we can have a match without holding back," Shi Jingyi said.

She was really looking forward to a full-power bout with Guan Tong, a way of making friends through martial arts. She had little interest in anyone else; a match where the gap in skill was too large was meaningless.

Guan Tong nodded. "Deal. But there’s another reason I’m in a hurry: to restart the Mind Network. Since it can be used to identify Parasites, maybe it can also be used to help those addicted to the spores."

"Help those addicted to the spores?"

"Mhm."

He briefly explained Suzuki’s situation.

After listening, Shi Jingyi said, "The academy has held meetings about spore addicts before. Do you remember when I mentioned to you that after the [Outer Heaven Parasite] rule ended, some students from the academy went missing?"

"Of course. At the time, we thought those students were probably addicts who left the academy for Black Banner Country to get more spores."

"Right. Ascenders are different from ordinary people. Their ’Resistance’ is higher, so their transformation into a Parasite is slower. This leaves some addicts stuck in the middle—unable to complete the transformation, yet suffering from withdrawal symptoms because they can’t get any spores."

"The Suzuki I mentioned is one of them."

"...Guan Tong, why don’t I go with you when you go see this friend of yours? We can see if the Mind Network can have any effect."

"That would be best."

Shi Jingyi’s help was definitely a good thing, as it would allow Guan Tong to test his theory ahead of time.

He felt it would be best if it worked. If not... then he would just have to wait until his Psychic Power limit broke 1,000 and try to make something happen using the power of the [Wordless Book].

After breaking through, he would surely be able to write on a new page. If it could solve problems like the spore addicts and Parasites, then using up a dedicated page would be well worth it in his opinion.
