Chapter 247: My Puppets vs Your Puppets

  • Next Chapter

Suddenly, the fresh corpses on the ground and the ancient looking moss-covered skeletons simultaneously lurched upright.

Their hollow eyes began to glow with a sinister, bright purple light as they turned their heads toward Gu Fan and Song Yan.

And then with a chorus of unnatural shrieks, more than a few dozen Demonic Corpse Puppets charged at them, mindlessly swinging rusty blades, broken spirit tools, and some even their own shattered bones.

"This!" Song Yan narrowed her gaze as instinctively pressed grabbed Gu Fan by his arm and pressed her breasts against his arm.

She might play hard to please, but in this dangerous demonic ruin this mysterious big brother of her nephew whose true face she hadn’t even seen was her only refuge.

"Relax, Madam Song, I have got you," Gu Fan murmured warmly, gently squeezing her waist to reassure her as he looked at the charging puppets with complete boredom. "I told you that you wouldn’t have to lift a single finger today."

Before the massive horde could fully surround them, the recent entry to the family, the Golden Mountain Sect disciple leaped into the air, swinging its sword directly at Gu Fan’s head.

"Already eager to prove yourself?" Gu Fan casually raised his hand and caught the blade barehanded.

The next second, he melted the cheap steel into useless slag with his Heaven-Melting Corrosive Qi before driving a brutal, bone-shattering punch directly into the puppet’s chest, completely blowing its upper torso into a shower of dark sludge and broken ribs.

As the remaining of his corpse dropped to the moss, an amused smirk spread perfectly across Gu Fan’s handsome face.

"If this pathetic dungeon wants to play a game with mindless, rotting puppets, then I suppose I should simply introduce it to my own," Gu Fan chuckled.

And then instead of drawing his own sword or unleashing his own Origin Realm Qi to fight the remaining handful of monsters, Gu Fan casually waved his free hand.

CRASH!

CRASH!

CRASH!

Three massive, incredibly heavy Ancient Stone Sentinels violently materialized out of thin air, crashing aggressively onto the cobblestone street right in front of Gu Fan and Song Yan.

They were towering, highly intimidating golems entirely carved from dark grey tomb stone, their hollow visors glowing with a sinister red light.

They radiated the absolute, peak physical strength of the Spirit Realm, armed with massive stone broadswords and incredibly thick stone war-hammers.

Exactly as the heavy golems hit the ground, the translucent blue system interface aggressively flashed directly in front of Gu Fan’s eyes, happily chiming with a highly energetic tone.

[Ding!]

[System Notification: The System is highly impressed by the Host’s incredibly lazy, yet flawlessly villainous proxy-warfare tactics!]

[Minor Combat Quest Triggered: The Puppet Master’s Game!]

[Objective: Have your Ancient Stone Sentinels violently slaughter 50 Demonic Corpse Puppets within exactly 15 minutes without the Host lifting another finger.]

[Reward: A High-Tier Surprise Gift!]

Gu Fan laughed out loud, pleased with the completely free loot opportunity as he kept Song Yan safely wrapped in his warm embrace.

"Crush them all," Gu Fan ordered lazily to his golems.

The three Stone Sentinels didn’t hesitate for a single millisecond, aggressively charging forward to meet the massive horde of rotting flesh in a brutal, highly visceral clash.

The first Sentinel swung its massive stone war-hammer in a devastating horizontal arc, smashing directly into the leading group of ancient villager puppets.

The sheer kinetic force completely shattered their rotting ribcages, blowing five of them instantly into a spray of dark sludge and broken bones across the street.

On the other hand, a cluster of other puppets, leaped into the air, trying to slash the second golem’s head with rusty swords.

But the second Stone Sentinel simply stepped forward, completely ignoring the blades that harmlessly sparked against its ancient stone armor.

He then swung its heavy broadsword straight down in a wide sweep. With a sickening, wet crunch, the Sentinel cleaved three of the puppets in half from shoulder to hip, dumping their corrupted organs directly onto the glowing green moss.

Song Yan watched the brutal, completely one-sided slaughter with wide eyes.

This unknown master had such a tool at his disposal?

What else was he hiding behind that lazy facade of his?

The Demonic Corpse Puppets aggressively bit, clawed, and screeched, wildly throwing themselves at the stone golems, but their rotting teeth and broken nails only shattered against the unbreakable tomb stone.

The Sentinels ruthlessly stomped, crushed, and violently tore the puppets apart with cold, unfeeling efficiency, rapidly racking up the kill count.

However, Gu Fan quickly noticed a highly crucial detail as he used his ’Eye of the Void-Shatter’ to observe the fight.

Whenever a puppet was smashed into pieces by a hammer, the broken flesh would slowly start to twitch, trying to aggressively pull itself back together.

Gu Fan’s eyes narrowed as he noticed incredibly thin, almost microscopic strands of dark purple mist connecting the backs of the Demonic Puppets’ necks directly to the surrounding environment, tethering them to the glowing green moss on the ruins.

He immediately issued a new mental command to his golems. "Stop mindlessly smashing their bodies. Sweep the ground and snap the purple threads connected to the moss."

The three Ancient Stone Sentinels instantly adjusted their brutal tactics.

Instead of violently aiming for the heads or chests of the horde, the golems aggressively dropped low, violently sweeping their heavy stone weapons directly across the cobblestones, completely aiming for the empty space right behind the puppets’ legs.

SWISH!

CRACK!

As the heavy stone blades violently severed the thin, highly concentrated purple tethers, the effect was absolutely instantaneous.

The absolute second a tether snapped, the corresponding Demonic Corpse Puppet completely lost all its unnatural strength, instantly freezing in place before violently melting into a massive, foul-smelling pool of dark, highly corrosive sludge.

Within few minutes, the Sentinels effortlessly swept through the rest of the massive sixty-man horde, aggressively snapping every single purple tether until all remaining puppets were completely reduced to puddles of bubbling black goo on the ancient street.

[Ding!]

[Minor Quest Completed: The Puppet Master’s Game!]

[57/50 Demonic Corpse Puppets flawlessly destroyed in under 15 minutes!]

[Surprise Reward securely deposited directly into the Host’s Void Band!]

With the immediate threat flawlessly neutralized and the quest completed, the three massive golems stepped back, standing perfectly still like silent, loyal statues.

Gu Fan softly turned toward Song Yan, gently brushing a stray lock of silver hair behind her ear as she panted heavily, her beautiful face flushed with adrenaline and relief.

"See? Perfectly safe," Gu Fan teased warmly, leaning down slightly to look into her beautiful, flushed face.

He gently reached up with his free hand, softly tracing his knuckles down her pale cheek, causing her to shiver involuntarily. "You are doing an excellent job being my cute, obedient little shield."

Song Yan blushed without even realising her heart racing wildly in her chest.

She was a highly respected part of the Song Clan, yet standing here in the dark ruins, heavily pinned against this unknown masked man’s side, she felt incredibly weak and highly confused by her own physical reactions.

She wasn’t deeply attached to him yet, and she definitely didn’t know the true face hidden behind the black cloth, but her cursed body was desperately craving his intense Yang Qi.

She tried to take a tiny, hesitant step back to tip the power balance slightly towards herself.

But Gu Fan didn’t let her go, keeping her close to him.

"You... you shouldn’t tease me like this," Song Yan murmured softly, actively looking away to hide her flushed cheeks, though her soft hands remained resting flat against his chest since she simply didn’t have the strength to push him away.

"I can’t help it," Gu Fan smirked playfully, gently tracing the soft curve of her waist. "If you keep blushing with such a sweet, helpless expression in a place like this, I might just have to lay you down on a soft cloak and properly feed you my Yang Qi until you completely melt."

"You wouldn’t dare... not here," Song Yan gasped faintly, her breath hitching nervously, though her thick thighs instinctively pressed together at the highly romantic, deeply lecherous suggestion.

"Try me," Gu Fan smiled, gently leaning down to capture her lips for a kiss.

But exactly before Gu Fan could Song Yan and taste those sweet lips of hers, he felt a sensation of dred crawl up her skin and he could not help but shiver.

It felt the temperature around him had suddenly dropped by a few degrees.

Gu Fan immediately pulled back, gently tucking her behind him as his green eyes narrowed dangerously, staring straight toward the distant, unseen heart of the ruined subterranean city.

The distant, highly annoying weeping sound abruptly and completely stopped.

The sudden, dead silence was infinitely more terrifying than the wailing.

A split second later, thousands of faint, highly sinister purple lights simultaneously illuminated deep within the absolute depths of the ruins.

A suffocating pressure suddenly descended upon the entire cavern.

Something has taken deep interest in Gu Fan.
