Chapter 175: Elven History
Marielle sat on the floor of the living room with the enormous page completely unfolded in front of her.
Amon sat beside her, watching quietly as she moved her finger across the ancient writing.
She wore a simple dark-purple nightdress, and her long purple hair was loosely tied behind her head.
A pair of thin glasses rested on her nose as she carefully examined every line.
Several minutes passed before she finally took off her glasses and rubbed her eyes.
Amon looked at her. "So, what did you learn?"
Marielle turned toward him with a serious expression. "Where did you find something like this?"
Amon shrugged. "In a mass graveyard."
Marielle stared at him. "A graveyard?"
"Yeah."
She narrowed her eyes. "Are you a graveyard looter?"
Amon immediately shook his head. "I’ve never done such a thing."
Marielle sighed and looked back at the page.
"Whatever you say." She adjusted the page slightly before continuing. "This is a historical record from the Thousand-Year War between the Elves and Vampires."
Amon’s eyes immediately brightened. "The Thousand-Year War?"
Marielle nodded. "Yes. And according to this page, the war didn’t start simply because the two races hated each other."
Amon leaned closer. "Then why did it start?"
Marielle pointed toward one section of the page.
"Thousands years ago, vampires discovered something called the Moonwell inside elven territory."
"It was an ancient source of extremely pure energy, and the vampires believed they could use it to create a stable source of nourishment for their race."
Seraphina, who had been sitting on the sofa, looked over. "So they asked the Elves for it?"
"Exactly." Marielle nodded. "The Vampire Royal Court sent representatives to negotiate with the Elven Royal Family, but the Elves refused because the Moonwell was considered sacred."
Amon frowned. "Did the vampires attack immediately after that?"
"No. They left." Marielle paused. "But several months later, the Moonwell was attacked. Several elven villages surrounding it were destroyed, and hundreds of elves were killed."
Amon’s expression became serious. "The vampires did it?"
"The Elves believed they did." Marielle tapped the page. "The Vampire Royal Court claimed that the attack was carried out by a rogue faction and refused to hand over the supposed perpetrators."
Seraphina frowned. "Why wouldn’t they just investigate?"
"Because both sides already distrusted each other." Marielle sighed.
"The Elves demanded justice, the vampires refused, and eventually the first major battle began."
Amon nodded slowly. "So the war started because of a misunderstanding that kept getting worse."
"Partially." Marielle looked at the damaged sections of the page.
"After the first battles, neither side was willing to back down. The Elves attacked vampire settlements, the vampires retaliated against elven cities, and eventually both sides began developing weapons specifically designed to kill the other."
Amon crossed his arms. "How long did that continue?"
"Like the name suggests almost a thousand years."
Amon’s eyebrows rose. "That’s insane."
"It became more than a war." Marielle’s expression darkened.
"Entire generations were raised believing the other race was their enemy. Eventually, many people no longer even remembered why the war had started."
Seraphina looked thoughtful. "Then how did it end?"
Marielle smiled faintly. "Two people changed everything."
Amon immediately became interested. "Who?"
"The Elven Crown Princess and the Vampire Heir."
She explained that both had secretly realized their civilizations were destroying themselves.
They met in secret and began negotiating peace, despite opposition from their own people.
"Both sides tried to kill them?"
"Yes." Marielle nodded. "Many elves considered the princess a traitor, while several vampires believed the heir was weakening their race."
Amon shook his head. "Politics never changes."
Marielle gave him an amused look before continuing. "Eventually, they managed to convince enough people to negotiate a ceasefire. The final treaty was signed after one of the bloodiest battles of the entire war."
"Who won?"
"No one." Marielle shook her head.
"Neither side conquered the other. The Elves retained their territory, and the vampires kept theirs. After a thousand years of fighting, both civilizations were simply exhausted."
Amon looked at the page thoughtfully. "Was the peace permanent?"
Marielle hesitated. "The page says it lasted for several centuries, but this section is damaged."
She pointed toward the bottom of the page. "There are several missing parts of the history that I haven’t been able to translate yet."
Amon nodded. "Anything else?"
Marielle looked at the page again.
"There is one name that caught my attention." She pointed toward an old section of writing. "Elowen Vael Arannis."
Amon repeated the name quietly. "Elowen Vael Arannis?"
Marielle nodded. "She’s definitely connected to the Elven Royal Family. The title beside her name is damaged, but I can still make out the word Princess."
Amon’s eyes narrowed. "So she was an elven royal."
"Most likely." Marielle carefully examined the surrounding text. "There are several other references to her, but I haven’t figured them out yet."
Amon smiled. "Then I’ll let you keep the page."
Marielle looked at him. "Can I really borrow it?"
"Of course. I’d love it if you could tell me more once you’ve figured everything out."
Marielle smiled. "I will."
She carefully folded the enormous page before standing up as she glanced toward Seraphina.
"Would you like to sleep in a different room tonight?"
Seraphina smiled. "No. I want to sleep with you."
"...You don’t have to." She said looking at her.
"I know." Seraphina glanced toward Amon. "But I want to."
Marielle sighed but eventually nodded. "Fine."
She walked away with the folded page.
Amon watched her leave before turning toward Seraphina. "What are you doing?"
Seraphina smiled innocently. "I’m too tired for anything today."
She leaned forward and gave him a brief kiss. "Good night."
Amon sighed. "Good night."
Seraphina followed Marielle toward the hallway, leaving Amon alone in the living room.
He stood up and stretched his body before walking toward his room.
After closing the door, Amon sat down on his bed and crossed his legs.
He slowly closed his eyes.
The familiar spiritual energy began circulating through his body as he started cultivating the Spirit Sovereign Scripture.
The noise of the outside world gradually faded away.
His breathing became slower and his mind settled into silence.
