Chapter 63: Seeing Rose Again
Chapter 63: Seeing Rose Again
"Raven, are you sure Rose is coming?" Claire asked hesitantly.
Raven, who was adding more firewood to the campfire, smiled.
"Of course. Just wait. I used the same method when I invited you."
Claire pursed her lips and said nothing more.
Suddenly, she moved closer to Raven and rested her head on his shoulder.
Raven was caught off guard by the sudden move.
"What’s wrong?"
Claire didn’t answer.
Raven knew women pretty well, so he immediately noticed that something was bothering her.
"Are you worried about my relationship with Reyna?"
Claire was surprised, and her face instantly turned as red as an apple.
"W-What are you talking about? I-I wasn’t thinking about that."
She quickly turned her face away.
Raven burst out laughing.
How could he not know what Claire was worried about?
Her feelings were written all over her face.
He ruffled Claire’s hair and gently reassured her.
"Don’t worry. Reyna and I don’t have that kind of relationship. We’re just friends."
Claire was stunned.
"R-Really?"
Her eyes sparkled like stars. But the next moment, she realized how easily she’d been fooled and quickly turned her face away again.
"Hmph! I don’t care what your relationship is," she snorted.
Raven’s smile widened.
"I’m telling the truth. Reyna and I are just friends, nothing more. We just happened to end up in the same place, and we’re working together to survive. Besides..."
He recounted his adventures with Reyna. Of course, most of what he told her was a lie.
There was no way he was going to admit that he and Reyna had already crossed the line between a man and a woman, right?
Instead of bringing him closer to Claire, that confession might actually ruin their relationship, making it even harder for him to win her over completely.
Besides, he was a scoundrel. What bad thing hadn’t he done yet?
So, Raven kept a relaxed expression as he continued telling his lie.
"Something like that. I hope you don’t misunderstand."
Claire’s face immediately lit up with relief.
"I see..."
She stopped pretending to be sulky and smiled again.
"But I feel like she has feelings for you. What would you do if she suddenly confessed to you?"
Her eyes were filled with curiosity.
If it were any other guy, he might have gotten nervous or panicked.
But not Raven.
He simply smiled casually.
"It’s no big deal. Everyone has the right to like someone. If I got mad at her just because she likes me, wouldn’t that make me a loser?" he replied nonchalantly. "Besides..."
He looked deeply into Claire’s eyes.
"The person I like isn’t Reyna. I just think of her as a friend."
Claire gasped in surprise. For some reason, she felt like there was a hidden meaning behind his words and gaze.
Thump!
Her heart pounded as a wave of embarrassment washed over her.
"Don’t tell me... he actually likes me?"
The moment that thought crossed her mind, her face flushed red. It felt as if steam were rising from the top of her head.
"W-What should I do? Should I accept his confession if he actually confesses? And if we get married, how many kids should we have? Five? Or maybe seven?"
Raven was completely unaware of Claire’s wild thoughts. If he knew, he might choke and exclaim, "Your imagination is incredible!"
Snapping out of her thoughts, Claire cleared her throat and looked at Raven hopefully.
"So, who do you actually like?"
Raven remained calm and didn’t answer right away. Claire grew more curious, and her breathing quickened.
"I—"
Buzz!
A blue light suddenly appeared beside her. A moment later, it expanded and took the shape of a woman they both knew.
"Rose!?" Claire exclaimed.
Rose, who had been lying down, was startled.
"Huh? You two?"
She quickly sat up.
"H-How is this possible? Why are you here?"
Claire was stunned for a moment before remembering the teleportation Raven had mentioned.
"So that’s it. The teleportation actually worked."
She turned to Raven with an admiring look.
"Teleportation?"
Rose was shocked. Then she remembered the teleportation invitation from earlier and finally understood.
"So that’s it. I did click ’Accept’ on that invitation, and then I suddenly appeared here. So, you sent it?"
She looked at Raven curiously.
Raven gave a slight nod.
"Something like that. By the way, have you had lunch yet?"
"Not yet."
Rose shook her head and rubbed her flat stomach.
"Raven, make me something delicious! I’ve really missed your cooking!"
Seeing Rose, who was usually so arrogant, acting so spoiled, Raven couldn’t help but laugh.
"All right. I’ll make something. Just wait a moment."
He got up and prepared lunch for them.
While they waited, Claire and Rose chatted casually.
"Did you get that invitation yet?"
Rose nodded.
"I did, but I haven’t given my answer yet. What about you?"
"I haven’t either. Raven said we should wait for you before deciding whether to join or not."
"Hmmm..."
Rose fell into deep thought.
Noticing the change in her mood, Claire asked, "What’s wrong?"
Rose shook her head.
"It’s fine. I’m just annoyed that the gods had to interfere so much. What’s wrong with getting first place by a wider point margin?" she complained.
Claire let out a long sigh.
"It’s not that simple," she said, pulling both knees up to her chest and resting her chin on them. "Our points were rising too quickly, to the point that they caught the gods’ attention. Unfortunately, they couldn’t intervene directly, so they had no choice but to resort to underhanded tactics like that."
That was what Raven had told her yesterday. She hadn’t said much about it because she understood the gods’ concerns.
Rose pursed her lips but said nothing. After all, what Claire said was true.
"The food is ready."
Raven’s voice came from the front.
The two of them immediately stood up and helped him set the food on the table.
They all began eating heartily, especially Rose, who looked like she hadn’t eaten in days.
"By the way, Rose, I wanted to ask you something," Raven said, swallowing his food. "How did you earn so many points so quickly?"
Rose wiped her lips with her sleeve and casually replied, "I used a little trick."
She then explained the clever trick she had come up with.
When Raven and Claire heard it, they were both so shocked that they could only stare at her in disbelief.
"Y-You..."
Claire wanted to say something, but she didn’t even know what to say.
Raven took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. His view of Rose had completely changed.
So she wasn’t the foolish woman who relied solely on emotions and brute strength after all. She was actually very smart.
"Now I understand. In that case..."
Raven looked at each of them in turn, his expression turning serious.
"We’ll accept the gods’ invitation and join the hunt."
