Chapter 23: How’s That for Excitement?
Chapter 23: Chapter 23: How’s That for Excitement?
Hearing her, Fu Feng dug at his ear with a claw and rolled over. He pillowed his head with his small, golden claws, utterly unmoved.
Su Luoluo had pulled this kind of stunt plenty of times before.
Fu Feng had no intention of paying her any mind.
Meanwhile, down below the tree, Su Luoluo stared at those eerie yellow eyes, a chill creeping down her spine.
She had shouted so loudly; she was sure Fu Feng had heard her.
Yet he didn’t come down from the tree.
Since Fu Feng wasn’t coming, she could only scream for the system in her mind.
’System, there’s a snake! Save me, quick!’
The system’s response was lukewarm. It stated in its usual cold, mechanical voice, "The conquest target is nearby. To avoid disrupting the host’s conquest, the system will not provide assistance."
Su Luoluo: "..."
’The conquest target is nearby?’
’It can’t be talking about Fu Feng, can it?!’
’This stupid system must be insane!’
’Why would Fu Feng come over?’
’I just called for him repeatedly, and he completely ignored me.’
The snake was massive; Su Luoluo felt it was the size of a python.
’Xiao Ye is a snake too, but he looks so much more refined than this thing.’
The snake seemed to have locked onto Su Luoluo, coiling its body to lunge at her.
With no time to think, Su Luoluo immediately started scrambling up the tree trunk.
There was no other choice. The ground below was flat, making any escape attempt futile. It was better to get up the tree and hide for a bit.
But the tree bark was incredibly abrasive. Just grabbing onto it made her entire body itch.
But she didn’t dare let go. In this situation, letting go meant getting bitten by that snake.
She didn’t know what kind of snake it was, but she knew that snakes with triangular heads were venomous.
Given her size, her sudden scramble up the tree made the branches and leaves tremble violently.
When Fu Feng saw Su Luoluo climbing up, his eyes grew cold, and he was about to mock her.
But then he saw a black-and-white striped snake slithering up the tree right behind her.
Fu Feng’s pupils contracted. He instantly leaped down from his perch, swiping viciously at the snake.
The Dragon Sparrow and the snake locked in combat. The black-and-white ringed snake continuously flicked its tongue, circling the Dragon Sparrow.
However, the Dragon Sparrow’s claws suddenly enlarged, and a cold light began to emanate from them, releasing a white mist that looked like a cryogenic gas.
The snake, which had been acting aggressively, flicked its tongue and moved to strike.
But the moment its tongue touched the cold light, it froze in place.
That was Fu Feng’s superpower: Cold Ice Freeze.
Su Luoluo, who had been panicked, felt her heart lighten considerably when she saw Fu Feng immobilize the giant snake in just a few moves.
This was the first time she had seen a Beastman fight a snake since arriving in the Beast World.
Although Beastmen had a human form, they were far more powerful than ordinary people.
The snake remained frozen for a short while before its body went completely stiff and it toppled to the ground, dead, with its eyes wide open.
With a flash of white light, Fu Feng’s form instantly expanded, and he transformed into a tall, handsome Beastman.
His blue feathers swayed in the moonlight, creating a rather beautiful image.
Of course, he would have been even more handsome if one could ignore his cold, stinking scowl.
He shot a disdainful glance at the dead Black Ring Snake on the ground, then quickly grabbed a piece of beast skin to wipe his hands, saying in disgust, "So filthy."
Su Luoluo: "..."
’So Fu Feng is a germaphobe Beastman.’
’Then why was he sleeping in a tree? Isn’t that filthy?’
As she thought this, Su Luoluo looked up at the spot where he had been sleeping.
She discovered that a piece of white beast skin had been laid down there at some point.
’He didn’t even overlook a spot that small.’
’Looks like I’ll have to be extra, extra careful when dealing with him from now on.’
’Germaphobes are the most particular sort of people; it’s so easy to offend them by accident.’
After wiping his hands clean, Fu Feng looked at Su Luoluo with contempt. "What are you still doing hugging the tree trunk? The snake’s dead. Come down and sleep!"
Su Luoluo looked at the giant snake lying there on the ground. Its eyes were still open, which was pretty creepy.
The thought of sleeping next to a snake like that made her hair stand on end.
"Um... Fu Feng, could you maybe move the snake? I won’t be able to sleep with it watching me."
Fu Feng’s brow furrowed at her words.
Su Luoluo grew nervous that he would refuse; after all, he was such a germaphobe.
But if she didn’t ask, she wouldn’t dare come down.
To her surprise, Fu Feng only furrowed his brow. He then casually broke a branch off the tree and used it to fling the snake far into the distance.
Su Luoluo quickly and meekly said, "Thank you."
Hearing this, Fu Feng paused, his hand still holding the piece of beast skin. He gave Su Luoluo a strange look.
’This ugly creature actually said thank you? How rare.’
’In the past, whenever I helped her, she’d just look smug, as if she was entitled to it.’
’But he didn’t dwell on it. Su Luoluo was fickle; she had probably just come up with some new trick.’
He was only sleeping in the tree tonight to guard against her shenanigans; otherwise, he would have found a comfortable rock to sleep on long ago.
Once the crisis was over, Su Luoluo immediately climbed down from the tree.
It had been hard enough to earn a sliver of his trust; she didn’t want to ruin it now.
After all, the night was still young. Who knew what else might happen before morning?
This time, however, as she settled down to sleep again, she deliberately moved her beast skin blanket closer to the tree trunk. That way, if anything else happened later in the night, she could climb the tree at a moment’s notice to protect herself.
Fu Feng watched the portly figure below cautiously lean back against the tree trunk and found it amusing.
’So timid.’
After such a terrifying ordeal, Su Luoluo thought she wouldn’t be able to sleep.
But surprisingly, hearing the tribe’s passionate, unrestrained sounds of lovemaking actually gave her a sense of security.
Perhaps it was because as long as those sounds were there, she knew people were nearby. Even if something happened, she wouldn’t be alone.
Later in the night, whether because people’s stamina was starting to wane or for some other reason, the sounds grew much calmer and more rhythmic.
Listening to the steady rhythm, she gradually drifted off to sleep.
’I wonder how a germaphobe like Fu Feng feels about hearing all this?’
Su Luoluo was dying to know, but his icy expression made her dismiss the thought.
When she woke the next day, the sky was already growing light.
Fu Feng was already gone from the tree; she had no idea when he’d woken up.
Su Luoluo stretched, then folded up her beast skin blanket.
She followed this with some warm-up exercises. Even though she was in a new place, she was determined to keep up with her morning runs; it was the best way to lose weight.
The morning forest was much brighter and less gloomy than it had been at night. Everything looked serene and beautiful.
Jogging while breathing the fresh air was both refreshing and relaxing.
’The air in a primeval forest is really something else. All these negative ions... You’d never find air this good in the Post-apocalypse. Back there, it was all corrosive fumes.’
Yesterday, she had been too preoccupied with finding things to properly appreciate the scenery.
As she jogged, she was delighted to discover a deep pool up ahead.
’The water looks really clear. I can probably get drinking water here.’
’But... what’s that white shadow in the water?’
Finding it strange, Su Luoluo stopped jogging and walked closer.
Just as she drew near, the white figure shot out of the water.
It was none other than Fu Feng.
And he was completely naked, not wearing a single stitch of clothing.
Su Luoluo never expected to walk in on a ’handsome man emerging from his bath’ scene, and she had gotten a full, unobstructed view.
And at that very moment, he was glaring at her with murderous intent...
