Chapter 103: Volume 2, Chapter 103: The Lesson Stayed

The ball arrived with a hard, skidding spin across the damp Algarve grass, and Rayan didn’t wait for it to settle.

He took his first touch while already shifting his weight, dragging the ball across his body just enough to throw Tiago Leal onto his heels. For a split second, the senior right-back paused, expecting Rayan to cut back inside on his preferred foot. Instead, Rayan released a low, sharp pass into the six-yard box before Pedro Gonsalves could even call for it. Victor Gyoker attacked the front post on a diagonal sprint, tore ahead of his marker, and smashed a first-time finish into the roof of the net.

"That’s the timing! Again" Victor shouted, turning on his heels and pointing a single, rigid finger back at Rayan.

Coatez rolled another ball towards the server before anyone could linger over the finish.

Rui Amorim didn’t blow for a break. "Straight into the eleven-v-eleven block! Blue bibs, drop into the mid-block. Yellows, build from the back. Move!"

The next sequence began through Rayan’s side. Salvador Almeida collected a loose ball near the centre circle, checked the defensive line and pointed towards the touchline.

"Hold the width, Rayan! Don’t come inside until Tiago steps out!" Salvador shouted, his voice ringing over the wind. He pinged a diagonal switch straight to Rayan’s feet.

Rayan trapped it cleanly. Tiago closed down the space, but kept his hips square, shouting over his shoulder, "Handover and keep the inside lane shut!"

Instead of forcing a one-on-one duel, Rayan slowed his approach, inviting Tiago to lean forward. The moment Tiago adjusted his stance, Rayan played a disguised return pass inside to Pedro, who had drifted into the newly vacated pocket. Gyoker cut across the two centre-backs, dragging both with him, while Pedro touched the ball first time into Rayan’s path. Rayan didn’t stop moving, he sprinted into the space behind Tiago, received the pass from Pedro, and drove towards the penalty spot. He drew the goalkeeper out before sliding a soft, horizontal ball to Pedro, who tapped it into the open net.

"Assisting the guy who just assisted you," Pedro muttered, trotting past Rayan with a dry grin. "Very generous of you to give me my own ball back."

"You were standing in the way," Rayan replied, wiping sweat from his forehead. "I had to use you."

On the blue team, Duarte Faria wasn’t letting the block slip away cleanly. Standing in the central attacking role for the opposition, Duarte received a high-velocity pass under heavy pressure from Sebastian Coatez. Without turning, Duarte used a subtle shift of his left shoulder to freeze Coatez, adjusted his body orientation mid-stride, and flicked a weighted pass into the path of the right winger, changing the entire tempo of the attack in a single touch. Two passes later, the blue team pulled a goal back.

Duarte walked back to the restart line, caught Rayan’s eye, and gestured for the ball.

Rui Amorim blew a sharp double-blast on his whistle, stepping three yards onto the pitch.

"Stop!" Rui yelled, pointing aggressively at the blue defensive line. "You’re chasing him individually! Drop five yards! Pass him between the full-back and the centre-back. If he moves inside, hand him off. Do not let him turn facing forward!"

The blue defense compacted, forming a wall of four bodies guarding the central channel.

Rayan felt the shift immediately on the next restart. When Salvador played the ball to his side, Tiago didn’t press him; he backed off, sharing the space with the outside centre-back. Rayan drove forward at full speed, but the gap closed instantly. Rather than losing the ball, Rayan slammed the brakes on, dragged the ball back with his sole, and exploded into a pure sprint down the outside corridor, bypassing the entire block through sheer acceleration. He reached the byline and cut a trailing shot across the face of the keeper, off the far post, and into the side netting.

Two minutes later, Salvador won another second ball and fed Pedro between the lines. Rayan started towards the pass, then stopped outside Tiago’s eyeline. Gyoker drove between the central defenders, dragging the blue backline deep toward the six-yard box. Pedro opened his body as though he would feed Gyoker, then clipped the ball beyond the crowd to the far post. Tiago turned towards it too late. Rayan arrived behind him on the blind side and guided the finish past the keeper before he could set.

As the players walked off the pitch toward the hydration station, Rayan looked back at the turf, his lungs burning, wanting another twenty minutes. He loved dominating senior players. He wanted to do it again right now.

A translucent, smoked-black panel opened cleanly in his field of vision.

[SENIOR ENVIRONMENT ASSIMILATED.]

[Development Class evolved: ASCENDING PRODIGY → MONSTER ASCENDANT.]

[Monster Assimilation unlocked.]

[Elite Template Library unlocked: 1 active slot.]

[Dominance Chain unlocked.]

[Professional Life Suite: foundation access unlocked.]

Rayan stopped near the water coolers, reading the text as it settled.

Monster Ascendant ensured that his learned patterns were no longer rigid single actions; they were fully integrated into adaptable solutions. Monster Assimilation gave him the ability to convert one correctly demonstrated elite movement principle into something usable through observation, focused repetition, and real execution. The Elite Template Library held one active slot to store and refine a specific movement principle. Dominance Chain would track and reward consecutive high-impact performances. Finally, the Professional Life Suite unlocked institutional frameworks off the pitch. Structured modules for advanced physical recovery, sports nutrition, wealth management, media navigation, and tactical language fluency.

Rayan absorbed the information in seconds.

"Rayan," Rui Amorim called out, walking over with his clipboard tucked under his arm.

Rayan closed the panel and turned. "Yes, Boss?"

"Tomorrow against Portimonense," Rui said, his tone entirely free of theatrical excitement. "You’re starting on the left of the front three. Duarte moves to the right. Pedro drops into midfield."

Rayan froze for a heartbeat.

Rui caught his expression and let out a dry breath. "You wanted the start. Prepare for it."

A surge of electricity ran down his spine.
