Chapter 463: The Battle of Bluewater City(4)
Chapter 463: The Battle of Bluewater City(4)
Everything happened so quickly that no one had even realized what was happening.
Who could have imagined that Bone Club, whose defense had been pushed to the absolute limit, would actually be killed instantly by Ashina?
Firomina had once again reaped a massive amount of Primordial Divine Power, putting her in an excellent mood. Even Phield looked much more pleasing to her now.
"By the Goddess, what did I just see?"
Stasia, the little follower who had rushed over to provide support, suddenly froze. She blinked twice in utter confusion before turning around and running.
Wisps of divine power seeped out of Bone Club’s body and slowly condensed into her divine artifact. She had not had time to disintegrate the artifact before dying, which meant it could be dropped as loot.
A grayish white mass of flesh condensed into existence, writhing like a beating heart.
"A divine artifact made from an organ. I wonder who can use it."
Ashina took the artifact and stored it in the satchel at her side. When she noticed Frenita slaughtering her way through the rear of their formation, she immediately urged Drakewolf back to provide support.
Frenita killed more than a hundred corpses. Fortunately, Ophelia could continuously recruit more corpses as cannon fodder. Both sides were constantly expending divine power, and Phield’s army suffered a slight disadvantage in the exchange.
"No. At this rate, we’re wasting too much divine power. We also need to let Aonai’s army of drowned corpses wear down their soldiers."
With no desire to continue fighting, Frenita gave Phield a cold glance before transforming into a cloud of black mist and swiftly returning to the Bluewater City army.
"What’s wrong with all of you? Why do you look like that?"
Stasia shrank her neck and said with an ugly expression, "Bone Club died in battle. She was killed by the enemy’s demi human cavalry. I was useless and failed to reach her in time."
"What!"
Frenita could hardly believe her ears. She frowned.
"Where’s her body? Even I would have difficulty breaking through Bone Club’s defense. How could she possibly have been killed so quickly?"
"It’s true."
Corrupted Lord Aonai pointed at the enormous octopus body beneath him and gave a terrifying grin.
"To prevent her body from going to waste, I ate it myself. At least I’ve made a contribution to our side."
"Idiot!"
Frenita flew into a rage and brought her blade down.
"Ah!"
Aonai let out a miserable scream.
Three of Aonai’s octopus tentacles were severed at the base and fell to the ground, writhing like earthworms. Although they were corrupted creatures, possessing intelligence came at a price. They could still feel pain and fear.
"My people are not yours to touch." Frenita’s eyes were ice cold. "Once Phield is dead, I’ll deal with you."
"Yes."
Aonai reluctantly backed away. Alongside his wariness and resentment, a sinister gleam appeared in his eyes.
"My people, heed my command! Form ranks and advance!"
Aonai’s face twisted as he ordered the tide of corpses forward.
Once their numbers exceeded a thousand, they were like an ocean. More than five thousand corpses of various kinds surged forward with their heads packed together, roaring as they advanced for several miles. With a Corrupted Lord commanding them, the tide of corpses was no longer a chaotic mob. Instead, it had been organized into one formation after another, with high ranking corpses stationed within each formation.
"Not bad. That octopus monster was probably the lord of this place before it died."
Phield rode his warhorse atop a small slope, surveying the enemy army from afar. They had clearly retained the traditional style of noble warfare.
There was a vanguard, a center formation, left and right wings, and a reserve force. There was even an elite corpse guard stationed around the octopus monster itself.
"Watch the corrupted giant shrimp formation on their right. That could very well be their hidden main force. Frenita and the other Corrupted Divine Chosen are likely concealed behind the vanguard and being kept as a strike force."
"Ashina, don’t charge into the battle yet. Stay here and keep an eye on Frenita."
"Rosalia, I need you on the front line. Once we make contact, activate your Incarnation and punch straight through their center formation. Focus on killing the cannon fodder."
Phield rapidly issued a series of orders.
"Finally, I can slaughter to my heart’s content."
Rosalia bowed gracefully, hoisted her greatsword onto her shoulder, and set off.
"What about me?" Firomina asked almost casually. When she noticed Phield looking at her, she immediately pretended not to care.
"Their entire army could be wiped out with a single wave of my hand."
"I’m worried you’ll pass out, so don’t use your large scale bombardment skills yet."
With that, Phield circulated his magic power and amplified his voice to the utmost limit. His roar thundered across the battlefield.
"Nightfall Domain Army! Attack!"
"Roar!"
The corpse army advanced in formation. Their armor gleamed like a wall of steel, their spears stood like a forest, and their black banners billowed like clouds. Even the slow, steady advance of the entire Nightfall Domain army created an overwhelming pressure that made it difficult to breathe.
Although the enemy army outnumbered them by more than five to one, the corpses of Nightfall Domain possessed top tier physical attributes and were equipped with superior weapons and armor. The two formations looked almost like a professional army marching in to crush a band of marauders.
"Attack! Attack!"
Phield suppressed the excitement surging through his heart. Every battle stirred an uncontrollable fervor within him. No man could resist the thrill of conquering new lands and expanding his domain.
Since neither side had cavalry, Aonai ordered a hundred speed type corpses to circle around the rear and launch a rear assault, but Firomina blasted them apart.
"Aikalia, give the ranged corpses a boost."
"Yes, my lord."
Aikalia clasped her hands together and began singing an inspiring song.
Blue, visible musical notes enveloped the ranged corpses. The bone spikes and bone spears along their backs instantly gleamed with a chilling radiance. Their attack range also increased dramatically.
"Volley!"
"Roar!"
Like a flock of birds taking flight, more than a hundred bone spikes were launched into the air by powerful muscles. They soared into the sky before raining down upon the densest part of the enemy formation.
The bone spikes were already extremely lethal, and with Aikalia’s enhancement, their destructive power became even more terrifying.
A series of wet impacts rang out as dozens of enemy corpses were immediately pinned to the ground.
The assault did not stop. The ranged corpses continued firing, forcing the enemy to lose dozens of soldiers every time they advanced another step.
"How can our own kind have such a shorter range than theirs?"
Corrupted Lord Aonai could no longer sit still.
Only after advancing thirty paces did the Bluewater City army finally reach their effective range. They immediately returned fire.
A sparse volley of bone spikes flew through the air, clattering against armor in a chaotic chorus of metallic impacts. Only two or three corpses were actually pierced through their armor and knocked to the ground.
After three volleys of mutual fire, the corrupted tide finally crashed into them.
Amid the deafening roars of the corpses, the two armies immediately erupted into the fiercest close quarters battle. Spears thrust forward while claws and fangs answered in kind. From time to time, heavily armored corpses were dragged away and surrounded by the enemy. The savage corpses would pile onto their victims like a living blanket, crushing them to death beneath their combined weight.
But compared to the inefficient claws and fangs, ranks upon ranks of spears and cleavers were far more effective at killing.
Under the frenzied swings of steel weapons, sprays of blood shot into the air as the Bluewater City corpses fell in great swathes like wheat beneath a scythe.
They had only just made contact, yet the Nightfall Domain corpse army had already displayed overwhelming momentum.
"We can’t let this continue. Tier Three Divine Skill, Death Tornado!"
Corrupted Divine Chosen Stasia finally made her move.
A horrific chorus of screams suddenly erupted. A tornado swept across the battlefield, countless blades of light flashing within the raging winds. It tore across the ground like a giant plow, instantly ripping open several gaps in the Nightfall Domain defensive line.
