Chapter 460: The Battle of Bluewater City(1)
Chapter 460: The Battle of Bluewater City(1)
"That is..." Frenita rose onto her snow-white toes and stared into the distance carefully.
Soon, the thunderous sound of countless footsteps hitting the ground rang out.
A massive army of corrupted soldiers clad in heavy armor and carrying enormous shields marched toward them with earth-shaking force. Their armor gleamed ominously beneath the sunlight, while banners fluttered in the wind. The wolf banner of Nightfall Domain billowed fiercely above them.
"Roar!"
"Roar!"
More than a thousand corrupted corpses within the formation roared at the top of their lungs, their voices shaking the heavens.
"Wait. Are those... corrupted corpses? How are corrupted corpses being controlled by humans?"
Frenita’s expression turned serious as she stared at the orderly army in disbelief.
"How laughable. Humans actually dare to take the initiative and attack a calamity. They’re practically delivering themselves to us as food." Aonai wriggled his octopus tentacles and climbed onto the wall, but the moment he caught sight of the army, his mind nearly stopped functioning. "An army made entirely of corrupted creatures?"
Frenita turned her head and smiled eerily. "There’s no need to be surprised, Lord Aonai. You’re the lord of this place, after all."
"My corrupted army hasn’t had time to finish assembling."
The previous flood had swept away quite a few corrupted corpses, so Aonai had only managed to rebuild an army of around five thousand.
"But the enemy has only a thousand or so soldiers. They actually dare to attack me? They really have a death wish."
Meanwhile, Phield gazed toward Bluewater City.
The city had suffered severe water damage. Weathered stains and rotting vegetation could be seen everywhere, while its defensive strength had been greatly reduced.
The city walls were crooked and surrounded by ruins. However, the corrupted creatures had clearly reinforced the city. Twisted flesh had filled most of the gaps in the defenses. Even the city gates had been transformed into enormous fleshy gates covered in dozens of eyes.
"There’s at least one Third-Order Divine Chosen inside that city."
Phield opened his minimap and saw a bright red marker. He had no idea who it belonged to.
Violet shook her head slightly. "You may have some strength, but they have too many Third-Order Divine Chosen. I advise you to leave."
"Thanks for your concern, but indecision is not a good habit."
Phield waved his hand and rejected her advice outright.
It had taken them so long to get the ground dry enough to walk on again. There was no way he was going to waste this opportunity to press the attack.
"Fine. I’m leaving. Good luck."
With that, Violet vanished from their sight in a flash.
"Huh? She could at least help us out a little." Rosalia swung her greatsword through the air twice.
"Time waits for no one. Let’s go through the usual procedure first."
Phield had already locked eyes with the enemies on the city wall. He immediately rode forward, with Ashina following closely beside him.
"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen."
Phield rode proudly to the foot of the city wall and raised his head.
"I know none of you are going to surrender right now, but I’ll make you a promise. I’m willing to accept corrupted creatures. So please don’t recklessly disintegrate yourselves or self-destruct. If you choose to join me, you can still obtain what you want."
"Hmph, you..."
Frenita had just begun to retort when Phield turned around without another word and immediately returned to his formation.
There was no point trying to persuade creatures whose minds were consumed by bloodlust with words.
"Arrogance is a form of stupidity." Aonai was furious. He roared, "You don’t even have siege weapons. You’re nothing but a fool putting on an act. I’m going to eat you!"
"Idiot." Frenita’s little attendant shook her head repeatedly.
"Hmph. Who says you need siege weapons to take a city?"
Phield immediately gave an order. "Firomina, reduce their numbers a little. And don’t use that Solar Bombardment of yours."
Every time Firomina launched a large-scale bombardment, she immediately passed out afterward.
"All right."
Firomina tossed her hair aside, and the Nirvana Seed floated into the air above her hand. Divine power surged forth as a series of streaks of starlight roared through the air like tracer rounds.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
Bluewater City’s walls were instantly bombarded. Rubble flew everywhere as the flesh-reinforced walls were blasted open, creating a breach while the corrupted corpses defending the area were blown apart.
"Huh?"
Aonai and the other Divine Chosen were all startled.
"A long-range marksman type of Divine Chosen. She must specialize in siege warfare. Damn fool. She actually had her subordinate use a Divine Skill this early." Aonai sneered. "Miss Frenita, there’s no need to worry. This approach is ridiculous."
Frenita remained noncommittal.
However, after resting for two minutes, Firomina casually waved her hand again.
Another barrage of golden light roared across the battlefield and blasted one of the fleshy watchtowers on the city wall to pieces.
Firomina then maintained a steady firing rhythm, continuously bombarding the city walls and inflicting considerable casualties on Bluewater City.
"Damn it! They aren’t even trying to storm the city. They’re just provoking us!"
Aonai could no longer stand it. He had originally been waiting for the enemy to launch a siege, but instead, he was now being bombarded unilaterally.
"Worms! I’m going out to fight them!"
The angrier corrupted creatures became, the more muddled their minds grew. Aonai immediately let out a furious roar and ordered the surrounding corrupted corpses to leave the city.
"We’re going too." Frenita spoke coldly. "I’m very curious to see how that youngster named Phield dares to come all the way to the Northern Province."
"Yes, Miss!"
Her little attendant and the corrupted female orc answered in unison.
"Oh? They’re actually coming out of the city just like that. Typical corrupted creatures."
Seeing the corrupted corpses pour out of the city in a chaotic mass, Phield snorted coldly and immediately made his decision.
"Ashina, strike their flank."
"Yes."
Ashina raised her spear, leaped onto the Drakewolf, and quickly circled around to the flank before the corrupted forces had time to form up.
Without giving the enemy any chance to react, Ashina switched the weapon in her hands into its siege drill form.
"Awooo!"
The Drakewolf charged forward at full speed.
Its heavy armor ignited with an eerie frostfire. Like a high-speed train hurtling down the tracks, it drove straight into the tide of corpses.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
A series of bloody explosions erupted.
Whether they were ordinary corrupted corpses or high-ranking corrupted creatures, everything in its path was blasted apart without resistance. The entire horde was carved open into a long trail of blood, with at least one or two hundred corrupted corpses crushed beneath the charge.
If they had been facing a human army, that single charge would probably have been enough to make the entire formation collapse.
"Damn it! You really think we don’t have Divine Chosen among us?" Frenita huffed coldly. "Bone Club, take down that demi-human cavalrywoman."
"Yes!"
The female orc let out a furious roar.
"Third-Order Divine Skill, Corrupted Stone Skin!"
The next moment, gray-white corrupted secretions spread across her entire body, transforming into a layer of rock-hard flesh.
Bone Club charged toward Ashina and engaged her in close combat.
"Phield, which family are you from? You certainly have some nerve."
Frenita flashed forward and appeared like a ghost at the very front of the corrupted formation.
She tilted her head slightly, revealing the graceful curve of her neck, which was so pale that it seemed to glow. A seductive smile curled across her lips.
"Hiss..."
Even though Phield had seen countless beautiful women, this was the first time he had encountered someone whose charm was so overwhelmingly seductive.
Her features were breathtakingly beautiful, her eyes rippling like autumn waters. Her long, jade-white legs stepped lightly against the ground, while her delicate feet, crystalline as scoops of snow-white ice cream, teased the earth almost unconsciously.
Her entire presence carried a drowsy, intoxicating allure.
