Chapter 598 Answer
“By the way, what happened in that Bloody Banquet for you to be so fixated on it?” Nathan asked.
Evelyn’s expression turned sour the moment she heard that question. “Why don’t you ask your teacher about it?”
“Her experience and your experience might differ due to perspectives. I’m just wondering what makes you get fixated on revenge.” Nathan shrugged. “It’s fine if you don’t want to tell me. I don’t know what happened, but it must be horrible.”
“…” Evelyn thought for a moment. Considering Nathan was helping her with her personal revenge, she thought it would be better to let him know sooner or later.
However, this wasn’t the time to do it. She shook her head. “I don’t mind telling you, but not now. It’s going to be a long story. Maybe after this mission or before the fight against the Divine Hand.”
“Oh. In that case, I’m fine with any time, as long as it’s not before a fight. That’s a great way to jinx your survival, so tell me after this mission.” Nathan smiled. “Well, I’m not going to force you to tell me. I can still ask Bella about it.”
“It’s fine. You should know about it since you’re in this.” Evelyn shook her head.
“Is that so?” Nathan nodded. “Then how do you meet these guys? From the looks of it, they’re much stronger than their peers. I’m not sure how to explain it, but…”

Evelyn closed her eyes for a moment. “It’s not that big of a story. Bella is my childhood friend, you know that, right? We had been together for as long as I remember.
“Besides, our story was rather similar. After escaping from that hell, we wanted to return to our household, thinking that we would be welcomed.
“But we ended up overhearing them talking about the loss of a tool instead of a daughter.” Evelyn shrugged.
Nathan blinked his eyes a few times. “You’re revealing such a heavy topic without batting an eye…”
“Is that a problem? You’re the one asking it. Besides, it’s not that big of a deal. In the end, they were not wrong. No matter how good we were, we were just a political tool. Even if I had the strength to avoid marriage with other nobles, the royal family was different. Their ambition just kept increasing whenever I made an achievement.
“We knew that, and after that hell, overhearing those topics simply destroyed the last bit of our attachment to our families. So, we chose to remain ‘dead’ and just lived for our own sake.”
Nathan nodded his head in agreement.
“While we were searching for the culprits, we found Revon. He was a leader of a mercenary group. It was a good mercenary group. They might not be as big as the one the Dragon King led, but they were strong, solid, and warm.
“With Revon’s strength, it wouldn’t be weird if he ended up turning that mercenary group to rival the Dragon King’s group much later in the future.
“However, when we found him, the entire group had been massacred. All people, including his wife and son, died in that incident. It took us a few months, but we found out that the culprits were actually the same people, or at least several people attached to that organization.”
“…” Nathan raised his eyebrows.
“Neyeid was on the verge of death when we found him. He was leading his own caravan, albeit he was ambushed by bandits. They weren’t the same people, but we ended up helping him.
“Don’t tell Neyeid this, but he was much more shameless than you when he wanted to join us. He begged me and Devon to take him in as our disciple. I never accepted, while Devon didn’t want to do it anymore since it brought back past memories, so for the time being, he was my mentee.
“I taught him a bit, but never really accepted him as my disciple. That was why he was hostile to you whenever it involved me.
“Christopher was actually one of the failed priests. He had fallen as a priest and got scrutinized. Unlike your girl, that corrupted saintess, he couldn’t bear the pressure and leave the Holy Kingdom.
“As for Sonia, we found her in one of the lawless cities. She was supposed to be the student of the Duxia Academy, but she was kidnapped by the Black Cat Organization and sold to an organization for further ‘training.’
“She was basically brainwashed and trained like an assassin due to her affinity with those familiars. We thought we found out about the culprits, so we accidentally attacked those places, only to find nothing.
“It was there where we rescued her. Without anything, she ended up following us. Well, that’s all I can say to you. If you want to know the details, you better ask every single one of them.”
Nathan blinked his eyes a few times. He never thought that each of them had such a heavy story. He probably wouldn’t ask for the details, though.
He pointed at himself. “Then, am I the only one who doesn’t have such a story?”
“Isn’t that good? Or do you want a tragedy in your life first?”
“Definitely not.” Nathan chuckled.
“Still, you’re the first one able to join this group by outsmarting us,” Evelyn sighed. “If I knew you would be this cunning, I wouldn’t have put surveillance on the Frexia Academy.”
“Eh? Isn’t that good? Meeting me allows you to find out a bit more about your revenge.”
“Maybe. I’m just afraid I will be swept away by you.”
“Heh. Is that a compliment or an insult?”
“A compliment of your ability, but not in a good way.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Nathan chuckled.
“That’s exactly what you are. Confusing. I’m grateful for your help all this time, though.” Evelyn closed her eyes. “You should get stronger quickly. Even if you have gotten strong enough to handle some officers in the Divine Hand, you’re still far too weak. I can’t even bring you to fight the culprits at this rate.”
“I know. And I do have a plan to get stronger.” Nathan smiled. “Just wait for it. You have no choice but to accept me.”
“As usual.” Evelyn nodded. “Anyway, it looks like they’ve finished. It’s time to move to our next target, their headquarters.”
